Stuck between two forced induction kits...
Which one would be better on an all stock frs? An HKS Supercharger kit or a Greddy Turbo kit? Which one is better in terms of performance and reliablitly? Thanks
|
What is your goal?
|
Both are capable of 300whp with the proper supporting mods and a custom tune. The supercharger will always be more reliable than a turbo because less components to worry about leaking or failing. Although Turbo has more bottom end kick than a supercharger. Supercharger generates less heat than a turbo setup.

When he turns 16 he'll have an FR-S?
I recommend driving school. |
For thosewho arent as adiment as tinkering with their cars; supercharger setup. That being said i wouldnt buy the HKS one. Id get the Jackson Racing SC. Ive only seen good #'s on those and heard nothing but raving reviews. I do not own it either.

Other things to consider. Turbo + support mods to keep it cool on the track is gonna cost you. Think really hard if you want to run this car at the track with reliability and a turbo.
|
I don't think a 16 year old needs to go FI. You need to learn to drive first. Just my 2 cents.
Then when mommy and daddy can afford for you to wreck your car, get a Jackson or Kraftwerks SC. HKS is and always has been a giant waste of money compared to other offerings. |
I use to kart race way before 16...
My first legal car was a Talon AWD full mods... Never crash "that car". My son will get a 4 cyl 4x4 AT pickup if diesel better! |

Me think that AJPG son will be sad when him see pickup and no place to put boom boom juice. |
vortech only becuase im biased

You are going to shoot your eye out, kid.
|
go with hks sc ver 2.
|
LOL.
Seriously get the car first. Drive it a bit and decide that you even need FI. I drove a fucking minivan before I got something cool to drive... You'll be ok. |
Unfortunate to see the priorities of these kids now days. Don't they realize that some of these high HP builds are spearheaded by guys that are either riding off of credit card debt or just independent/financial stable? Enjoy driving and getting use to the car first, then worry about adding more power!

Bro, in all honesty, if your only sixteen I suggest just getting only minor upgrades..
What I mean by minor upgrades are, intake, exhaust, TIRES, and a custom tune.. Warranty is the most reliable thing you can have.. :) If you want a fast straight car, I'd get a mustang 5.0 or something else that could run around 12s on the 1/4 stock.. I kind of liked my na with simple bolt ons more than the turbo.. That's only my opinion! Make sure you get it 6 speed to enjoy the most of it too Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
2k budget car, at the most, over 7k budget car anyday!

First car should be a beater cause you're going to abuse it...
Also good luck on insurance if you do try to get this car at 16 :bellyroll: |

He's right... No offense, I'm just trying to help you out while your still young... If your parents are going to pay for everything, the car/insurance, do them a favor and keep it na, it's still a lot of fun that way anyways. There's nothing more fun than ruining your car and having your dad rip you a new one.. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

It's Friday nite! Wind her tight! Boost that 86! It won't cost you everything. Don't listen to most of the dunderheads on this forum! They are nothing but tapeworms! I boosted my 86 and it may be the best thing I have done in a long, long time! It has Balls and Speed! More power, more torque, more launch, more sound, more donuts, more pizza, more, more, more. Live life stifled by those that restrict you, or live life to the fullest. It is your choice! Pete |

Let me tell you my experience with my Jackson Racing supercharger: I bought the kit with tune for $5,000, then dropped off the car and SC kit at my mechanic's shop, picked it up a week later, and it's awesome. No reliability issues. I haven't had to go back and retune or fix anything. It all just works as if it were stock. Only now I have to change oil every 3k miles instead of 5k. The only supporting mod I have is a P3 vent gauge. I'm still using stock clutch, injectors, and fuel pump. Of course I'm biased towards the JR kit, but I definitely recommend it. I have heard very mixed reviews about both the Greddy and HKS kits, so I'd suggest you avoid those until they're perfected. |
