Warranty about to expire
What have people experienced with warranty work relating to paint failures. I have a couple paint chips on wheel well border that is gonna require body shop sanding primer and paint repair etc.
Want to have the stealership do it before she hits 24K. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Paint chip on wheel well border, from.... rock chips?
Yeah, not gonna happen. -alex |

Would talk to them really nice and see if they will throw you a touch up pen though. Also check through the service bulletins and see if there is anything you missed before the warranty is up. |
good luck!

Troll or just really naive?

I figured this might be a big ask of the dealer..... Besides trying to have any warranty with performed is a total b@tch which is the reason for stealership comment. I mean I had the chirping fuel pump replaced and at first go-around the tech actually stated that it sounded normal and couldn't hear abnormal noise. Shut the front door dealership. What a joke. This is not my first new car and being somewhat experienced with this kind of thing my warranty request was granted and fuel pump replaced.

Have you read the warranty? If you have, did you miss the part about "normal wear"? Perhaps you should ask them to replace your tires, wipers, shocks, etc. under warranty as well. Seriously though, if you done more than 1 mile since you bought it, no dealer is going to give you warranty consideration for paint chips. Good Luck though.

I want to say that my dealership fixed a rock chip on my hood, free of charge.
However, I had only 3000 miles on it. |
I'm just trolling.. Jk.
I work at a dealership. They won't warranty it. It has to rust before they do anything. |

Time to break out the paint thinner water and salt. I'm gonna get my car repainted. ;) |

I remember years ago reading my Sentra's warranty that rust/body work was covered ONLY if it rusted through from the inside out. Otherwise they it's your tough luck for not priming & touching it up when it was just a chip. An example of dealer covered situation would be the surface rust (like some members here found) INSIDE the rockers rusting through to the other side. |

Specifically this is the paint peeling/rust on front passenger wheel well. The white residue is wax. What will deal do about warranty repair do you all think? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Dude take a hint, the dealer will not do anything for you.
|
You had splash guards installed and it rubbed the paint. Good luck with warranty and by the way, bumper to bumper is 3 years 36k miles.
|
Correct. reason I'm asking is to obtain opinion of forum members. Mud guards were a bad idea in retrospect. Or, I did a half ass job in installing.

If I was a dealer I would not touch that for anything. |

i would talk to dealership and nothing to lose besides wasting time & gas money. worst thing they can say is no. then you go to reputable bodyshop to get it painted. |
That's scary, I think I'm going to take mine off and take a look. Hopefully if nothing' s going on (paint damage/rust wise) maybe I'll put a strip of PPF on the edge just in case.

Like I said waaaaay back at the start I would still see if the dealership would give you a touch up kit. Won't be perfect but better then it is. Us Canadians are lucky as mudguards and heated mirrors come standard on or cars. I guess they figure we just might have to drive in cold weather and snow for some reason. |

If I were you, I'd remove the black plastic, mask off an 0.5-1.0 inch from the rust, clean the area, sand down the rust, clean it again, prime it asap with an etching auto primer (2 thin coats?), cure, paint it, let it cure, another coat (?), wet sand if needed, hit it with clear, cure (few days ?) cover it with PPF, put the black plastic back on and put the mud guards back on. Or take it to a shop you trust -no sloppy work (you could do that yourself for free)..... beware ultra cheap price they'll just paint over the rust.... no expensive work due to extensive blending/feathering if you plan to reinstall the mud guards (they cover up a lot). Once again use PPF to cover areas prone to the paint being rubbed off directly by the mudguard or indirectly by trapped dirt. P.S. whenever you take your car for painting try to dismantle as much as you can -some shops are so lazy and in a rush they'd rather mask & tape off instead of take apart. Send us pics on how it works out for you and good luck! |

Step 1. Sell the car to Wheeler Dealers.
Step 2. Let Edd China fix the paint. Step 3. Buy it back from Mike Brewer. At a profit, of course. Problem solved. |

Geeez Hotrodheart ,you trying for the most posts in under 20 minute award???? (Jokes)

The dealership offered to replace my rusted exhaust tips because "cosmetic parts" are covered under warranty. Maybe this will fall into the cosmetic maintenance category. It won't hurt to go in and ask. Or just call them.

Paint touch up pens...this car should come with 2 or more.
Seriously looks like someone shot the front end of my BRZ with salt rock in a shotgun. 34k miles on it or highway driving in Ohio. 1/2 of it probably in construction zones, and the other 1/3 in the snow/ice/salt. The paint on this car is definitely softer than others I've had....but if I've learned anything at all..don't own a nice car in Ohio and plan on it staying that way.

Yes I do! Don't agree (see my previous posts) but think he feels entitled and he actually does not think there is anything wrong with it. It is this sort of thing that drives the cost of cars up. Sure it cost the company a couple of hundred dollars to fix his error but multiply that by hundreds or thousands of people who abuse the system and it now means millions. The same with guys that do drastic mods on their cars (not a slam I plan my own) but when those mods break something else they feel the company should fix it for free. If there is a real problem then the company needs to be held accountable but they ARE a company and need to make a profit or they go away. Sompeople that want something for nothing cost us all in the long run! This has been something I have been very vocal about and have been labeled "fanboy" many times simply because I will argue against abuse of the system (which this clearly would be).
