Everyone needs to help out with the FT-86! Toyota responds with 2011 target date.

(Ignore the poll^)

Hey guy, I figured someone needed to start a thread where we voice our opinions directly to Toyota instead of hoping they stumble across this site and read our comments.

So we all know the FT will be available in N/A trim, what we don't know is if it will be available in Turbo form. So lets email Toyota directly and tell them what we want!

Anyway, here is the link I used to contact Toyota. I couldn't find an email address from their other sites (I'll post links below):

http://toyota.custhelp.com/app/utils.../ask_intercept

I basically just expressed my interest in the FT-86 and commented about this site and also how they should produce a turbo version. Nothing to complicated.

If you do email Toyota (please do) and they respond, post what they say here. It'll be interesting to see what they say, or if they send out a general response (or if we bug them enough what they say lol).

So what do you say? Let everyone help out each other!

Here are the websites I visited:

Here's what Toyota replied back:

We appreciate your interest in the FT-86!
Please note: Toyota and Fuji Heavy Industries, the parent company of Subaru, have jointly develop a compact rear-wheel-drive sports car that will utilize Subaru's "boxer" engine technologies and is targeted to be brought to market by the end of 2011.

Haha yeah thanks. I've had a engineering class where we had to design a plane wing and everyone was struggling. I emailed Bombardier and they sent me the whole repair manual for their LearJet (needless to say I got on A on the report lol). Sometimes its easier just to ask :happyanim:

I wonder how hard it would be to get a job writing for a magazine...j/k....

Dimman 09-08-2010 01:23 AM

3 cheers for Nate for doing the obvious thing. I can't believe it, he just asked them... :thanks::bow:

Never actually occurred to me or any of the writers.:bonk:

(And that's about my smilie quota for the month...)

blur 09-08-2010 03:43 PM

I sent one in, but it had nothing to do with the turbo lol. Honestly that's huge marketing decision that I feel we have no control over.

nate89 09-08-2010 06:41 PM

Yeah I should probably change the thread title to something more along the lines of everyone just emailing Toyota about our thought.

70NYD 09-08-2010 07:00 PM

Thank you for contacting Toyota Customer Experience Centre.

We advise that Toyota Motor Corporation Japan introduce various model vehicles to specific countries based upon market demand and individual country regulations and design specifications. Unfortunately we are unable to comment nor are we aware of an introduction of a FT-86 in Australia and suggest you regularly visit Toyota's website for further details on vehicle release information.

We apologise for not being able to provide you with a direct answer to your enquiry in this instance and thank you for contacting Toyota.

I got this when I asked about SRM from the 370Z:

Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

We apologize as we do not have time frames or dates as to if and when the FT-86 will be put into production.

There is no guarantee that concepts or prototypes will make it to production. Often different design ideas from concept vehicles may actually be incorporated into an existing vehicle, or into a new vehicle.

We certainly appreciate your inquiry and interest. We invite you to continue to visit www.toyota.com for information and updates on our vehicles as it becomes available.

If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us www.toyota.com/help/contactus.html.

Believe it or not, Subaru is actually less secretive than Toyota. Here and there, there's always some secret stuff posted or shown to car journalist and/or mag (ex: Subaru Hatch concept was revealed to one of Japanese mag before).

Mr. Z 09-23-2010 08:04 PM

I mailed Toyota Germany beacause the FR-S months ago... I got a reply wich says something like "We do not even know about a sportscar coming". Too lazy to dig the mail out and even lazier for translating.:)

Edit: There is a brochure online now @ toyota.de which has also an article about the FR-S.

O I'm in the same boat as you buddy. I just landed a nice job and am wondering whether I should trade my car in for an S2k or just wait for the FT-86 to come out.. decisions decisions.. FT-86 is more practical tho since I am going to DD it.

DanZilla 10-02-2010 05:36 AM

I really hope my S2000 is paid off by the time the 86 comes out. just a little bit left

From Toyota Germany:

FT-86 - a preview of a new sports car generation

The concept study FT-86 is fully and completely tailored to the ambitious driver. The basis for this is in addition to the optimal integration of the pilot precise, non-response approach to the smallest of the vehicle steering and gas pulses - here without losing a contemporary measure of environmental responsibility from view.

Against this background, the choice was not the drive of a severe motor with plenty of capacity, but a light, free-revving 2.0-liter gasoline engine with compact dimensions, coupled to a manual six-speed manual transmission, and with his low center of gravity that is a favored optimum grip.

The classic sporty exterior design of the FT-86 is based entirely on the requirements of optimal aerodynamics and functionality. Toyota's European design center ED2, the concept of a "Functional Beauty".

The flat, racy body is stretched tightly over the chassis and engine, and has a length of only 4160 mm long with a wheelbase of 2,570 millimeters, is particularly compact. Engine and the driver's seat are as deep and as far back as possible to arranged to Achieve optimal weight distribution and a possible center of gravity - essential prerequisites to bring stability even at extremely high speeds with a thrilling agile steering and targeted in line.

Inside, the design study is Characterized by a highly functional, ergonomically perfect cockpit, the ultra-light materials for perfect weight distribution, the low power, weight and contributes to the sporty appearance of the FT-86.

Why it was written twice every sentence? LOL I was confused reading the article.

nate89 10-03-2010 02:48 AM

My fault. It's fixed now.

virobloc 10-11-2010 05:07 AM

Brilliant idea nate89 I've made my part!

I've sent an E-mail to Toyota Spain and they answered me.
As long as I'm still not sure of the release of the car in Spain, I asked for if the news about the release of the car are true and, in case of they were true, when it will be.

And the answer was disappointing :(

(Google translator)
"Focusing on the query that raised us, sorry to inform you that from the Customer Service Centre, as of today, we don't know if in the near future, will launch in the Spanish market the vehicle of interest to Toyota FT-86, so you would have to wait for its official launch, if this were the case."

So bad news from Spain. I'll keep on covering the southern european quadrant to maintain you informed.

^Oh, did you send them one too? Through the Toyota website or to one of the dealers? I did mine through the website but it might be worth a try through someone like Rutherford and Bond in Wellington or North Shore Toyota in Auckland?
