JET86 Twincharged complete build !INSANE!
Ive decided after a huge demand to do my best to create a build thread from day 1 to the current day and include as much detailed information in it as i can.
Im not only doing this to show what can be done to these cars with a bit of know-how but i'm also doing this to show how simple most things are to do. The build has been on and off for 2 years now and has changed about 4 times, the reason for change is the constant technological advances and the search for pure efficiency. This car will be fully street legal in NSW Australia (this has about the most strict modifying laws in the world). So.. without wasting anymore time... lets start. |
|
The day i got the car i already had waiting
18x9.5 Work Kiwamis fr&r with 245/35R18 federal 595 RS-Rs http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...68A91F2B65.jpg |
To accompany these rims and tires i got the only set of coilovers on the market at the time here in Australia which were BCs. I threw these in along with some fancy blue wheel nuts and work centre caps.
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...6823CDDFE2.jpg then lowered it as far as i could to get in my current driveway http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...66C55D7FBF.jpg |
The first night i had the car i took it out to the local car scene (this was the first 86 in the region so it got a bit of attention)
Note.. the front was lowered another 1" after these pictures were taken http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...17533407_n.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...75239555_n.jpg |
Heres a nice close up picture of ride height and fitment of 18x9.5+38 kiwamis with 245s on them
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...66CBB465BA.jpg |
After the first month i did the generic "blackout headlights with halos (white that turns to amber for indicators) and also blacked out the tail lights
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...6732E16EF7.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...67125F09AD.jpg |
So after a few months of adding little things such as perrin crank pulley and gearbox mounts etc, i now decided to make my first 86/BRZ custom turbo kit that was named the JETKIT1.0.
Materials for the kit itself is 1.5" sch10 304 stainless steampipe that i cnc cut into a collector and also used the cnc to bevel all the weld joins for maximum strength http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...6755D556A8.jpg CNC cut flanges http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...66D5234FE2.jpg As you can see the flanges are counter-bored for the pipe to sit in to give a perfect fitment and maximum strength http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...1C05352836.jpg cutting the collector http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...6C8F0E1542.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...6C9AA188D9.jpg |
Trying my best to get the collector in a good spot and keep the runneres below 5% volume difference for maximum efficiency was difficult but i got there in the end with a 4.6% difference in runners.
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...7A5DA24620.jpg Quick tape job to see if it all fits and clearances are correct http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...3E6583D77E.jpg Here is it all taked up ready for final welding of the runners. http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psbd941bff.jpg |
Special delivery for me.
Garrett GTX2867r and tial .62 rear housing. V-band all the things! http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...B14B237823.jpg |
After the manifold was to the point where i could sit the turbo on for fitments and clearances i could see what i needed to do regarding air filter (threw a k&n pod on for now) as well as dump pipe and wastegate
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps5eec97fb.jpg |
Once the turbo was sitting sweet and where i wanted it i could work out how long the lines had to be for oil feed and drain, ordered them and 2 days later they arrived
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps7e0ac746.jpg |
|
i really couldnt be bothered to start searching for oil gallery ports in the block and heads so i decided to get the supply for the turbo off an oil filter relocation block i installed to also be able to run an oil filter
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psb2edc3bc.jpg |
in comes the fun parts :/
instercooler piping with turbosmart Vee port BOV http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psb1e9abf2.jpg |
so nearing the completion of the first build (also first in Australia) i decided to take it to the local dyno and see what she put out stock.
Power was 109rwkw http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psf4621770.jpg |
once that bar was set i went back to my little single car garage (actually in front as the garage is full of car parts now) and added the rest of the piping for the intercooler, sourced a PWR intercooler that i could make fit, wrapped the manifold and installed a sump drain plug in the sump.
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps9858ad06.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps4df06929.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps33a225aa.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psf5e83a67.jpg |
As you can see here, the clearance for the wastegate is tight but sufficient. I just threw a screamer pipe on the wastegate for the time being because #yolo

a quick fuel upgrade with some 550cc injectors and a dw65c fuel pump along with a omni 3 bar map sensor to keep things in check
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps18134e76.jpg |
Nice work, that header is beautiful...
lol at the burnouts off the dyno |
|
here is a quick pic i took of the manifold after its first run as a precautionary check.
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps1f1fa0db.jpg |
Ok so i finally got the rest of the exhaust done, wrapped the dump pipe and took a quick snap
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps5c349bbb.jpg |
Here's the first dyno run with 6.5psi boost on 98 octane
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps8170fdb6.mp4 it was running a bit lean for my liking but still a good result for the first pull on a base map http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psb0e5d190.jpg |
After a few runs we dialed it in and the end result was 211rwkw (282hp) at 8300rpm and 311nm (229ft lb) of torque at 3650rpm on 98 octane and with a stock exhaust system.
the following weekend the anual Megameet was on and i decided to take it down and show it off, response was overwhelming with swarms of crowds surrounding it due to it being one of the only boosted 86/BRZs in Australia. here is a few pictures of the cruise down to sydney. http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps076fa73c.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps141108cc.jpg |
So it had been about 6 months since the turbo kit was completed and word was getting out in the local police department there was a boosted 86 getting around with JET86 plates, it wasn't long until i was being pulled over 100% of the time i seen a cop car as they all now had the automatic licence plate scanners in force with my car being black listed.
After being pulled over 4 times in 3 weeks i decided its time to re-do the whole car as a street legal weapon with full emissions compliant engineers certificate to wave in the laws face. http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psa2d6775a.jpg |
So this was the last time the car was street bound.
It now sat on my rural property for about 6 more months whilst we started to build the new workshop as the "Forged Performance Australia HQ" and the parts started rolling in to get this car much more serious and more importantly... legal. http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psa6b62614.jpg |
I like that turbo set up! keep us posted

carbon hood to test and see if under hood temps drop

|
Keep it up! I'm hitting the F5 button like there's no tomorrow!
|
So i was asked by my local 86/BRZ club to be a feature display at the #festivalof86 where Tada himself was coming to greet everyone. Knowing id have to throw the car back together after it was apart and on stands for a couple of months i decided to throw as much shiny stuff on it as i could.
In comes the new parts. GTX3076R with tial rear housing and Blouch compressor wheel http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps1f2e94fb.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psb8e8ee56.jpg |
full exhaust and overpipe
verious GTS interior upgrades and a bigger wastegate http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps69b8ad80.jpg |
The car seemed to get some good response, not only that but there was numerous tuning companies there with their current project cars, the JET86 seemed to come out on top with a few awards given
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps2b0b7dd1.jpg |
Tada himself came out to check out the progress and signed the strut tower
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...pse7006008.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psa6232b1c.jpg |
I got home from the #festivalof86 and decided i needed some bigger brakes to handle the twincharged setup.
This was my result. Fronts: Buddyclub 6pot monoblock calipers. 385mm 3p floating rotors Rears : Buddyclub 4pot monoblock calipers. 355mm 3p floating rotors. These brakes clear 18"kiwamis by 0.4mm so when grains of sand find their way inbetween the caliper and the rim it makes an awful racket. I had to throw the caliper mounts in the mill and take off 2mm for ample clearance which in turn pulled the caliper closer to the center of the rotor, there was more than enough room for this. http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psa8289520.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps6607adba.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psea44129e.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psacf47960.jpg |
Straight onto the trailer for one of our private skid nights.

Review:
The car has run a 354rwkw with this new gtx3076r on 19psi and e85. It is insanely quick for the street but has a considerable amount of lag. Here is a video of the car running with a 2nd gear rolling start. TCS is doing weird things like cutting throttle randomly and then giving me surges of power now and then. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWxmNwV-RSs"]Jet86 before adding the supercharger - YouTube[/ame] I have been looking at ways at minimizing lag but to no avail. I ended up sitting in front of the car with the hood popped for a good 3 hours wondering what to do, a day later i went and grabbed one of these puppies. http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps94f3d56a.jpg Full sprintex intercooled supercharger kits. |
To the jump...
Here it is installed and looking purdy http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps217fb125.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps97057491.jpg Note.. as you have noticed i am now building the car out of a 40ft container on my property as my mum kicked me out of her single car garage lel. |
and this is what it sounds like with 2 lots of boost ;)
