Autocar reports Toyota and Subaru are working on ways to sharpen the GT 86, BRZ and Scion FR-S triplets. While that may mean buyers could see a convertible version of the sports coupe as soon as 2014, engineers are also working on a variety of other improvements, including a new track telemetry system. Using an onboard black box, the gadgetry will record a slew of data from track days. That's nothing new, but the cool part is buyers will then be able to upload and compare their times with other FR-S owners via Sony PlayStation. The report says Toyota is currently working to map major tracks around the world.

There's no word on when the kit will debut, but according to the report, buyers of early models will be able to retrofit their cars with the telemetry system with relative ease. In addition, multiple online tutorials and demonstrations will be available for various tracks.

Heh, I assume you'll need GT5 and whatever track packs are required for those tracks. Suddenly the exclusivity of the GT86/FRS/BRZ platform in GT5 makes so much sense.

Nope, it's gonna be in next GT

As for early model, they already equip w the stuff. Just need to activate it w black box (which everyone need it anyways).

I'd be surprised if there weren't exclusivity rights.

rcm47 05-31-2012 05:06 PM

Do they have the BRZ in GT5? or even the FRS?

Yeah I got that already. Tuned it to its full capabilities in the game. Too bad it didnt allow the use of a turbo or supercharger tho.

Tada-san isn't any anti microsoft or anything. Anything to get this car to hype & bring smile to the owner, he prob might work w them... but Polyphony on other hand... IDK

Cuz they don't have any company made turbo or SC for this car... yet prob next GT, that'll be one of the upgrade

I bought a GT86 and then a WRX in World Rally Blue paint to get a WRB paint chip. I then painted my GT86 WRB. Close enough. :D

I wish we could get TRD/ Five axis aero parts in the game.

I wouldn't hold it past them to include this in a future update. But Aero parts in GT games have been limited at best. It's like Choice A or B or stock.

I wonder currently GT86 aero kit in GT5 is Modelista? Or other Polyphony kit?

I don't quite remember what aero it gets. It looks like it might actually be the TRD. Mine has it, but I'd need to go home and boot it up to see which one it was. It looks pretty good though.

ichitaka05 05-31-2012 05:49 PM

^I think, I'll be boot my GT5 when I get home & before play Dragon's Dogma

Anyways, on topic. This system can read your spec of your car & can even change out suspension height, spring rate & all other stuff & test it out how it perform, so you can see how different it drive & so on. :)

Hanakuso 05-31-2012 05:57 PM

Cool, I hope they include a lot of US tracks

Edited by Dave-ROR: Removed escalation.

And this is basically already in the car? That's freaking AWESOME.

Now hopefully GT6 doesn't take another 8million years to come out...

Well the thing is they said that, currently they're testing this on US track (to be specific Laguna Seca) and see how well it works.

Also they're making it possible to upload your local track, not only major track in US... I was thinking, IF they can upload the local track, I wonder if they can upload track canyon road for some touge run LOL jk

Only time will tell :)

This might actually work for the track editor that's already in GT5. I've actually been too lazy to play with that thing. I just drive the already created tracks. I wonder if it would be able to take the track data and then build a version of that track from that. That'd be sweet. I could see that being a feature of some big DLC or add-on.

Dave-ROR 05-31-2012 06:56 PM

I think, Track Editor was test for this 86 thing. I think, we'll see more and more car that will be "somewhat" equip w these things and able to transfer the data into GT or even Forza and see your race replay in 3D.

TBH, I don't think we gonna get this into GT5... there's way too much stuff need to be add

Bristecom 05-31-2012 09:36 PM

If only the Indianapolis Motor Speedway let you track your car there. The track is already in GT5!

I need to dust off my playstation 3. I wish the FRS/BRZ/GT86 was in Forza 4.

Call me skeptical if you will but I honestly doubt they will get this ready for this generation 86. I wouldn't be surprised to see this get delayed so much that it actually won't show up until the next generation of BRZ/GT86/FR-S.

I mean come on, how long was GT delayed for?

This is a really cool idea. I could see justifying buying a console just for this.

Even better would be working with one of the PC sim developers, but I guess that is moving away from who they believe is the target market for the car.

There seems to be a working prototype. However, the problem will be the number of tracks it can support. As you know, in GT5 only a few famous circuits are supported. That basically means you can only use this on those circuits. Given the complexity of modeling a circuit, I do not believe Polyphonic will be able to model the circuit *on-the-fly* simply based on the data from a car.

Thus, you can only use this thing on those circuits already modeled in GT5, or maybe GT6. Nothing more.

From what I got, it won't be in GT5, it'll be in next GT (GT6? IDK).

Also I think, I wrote previously, but they're testing out in few US track (Seca is one of em). The track that isn't in the data base, it'll be DL or can be uploaded to GT. Cuz I highly doubt Polyphony gonna make every single track in the world.

Not to spoil the fun, but rumor has it that, BRZ won't be able to do this system.
