Finally Happened...

I had thought I'd escaped the cursed phase by now, relatively unscathed and everything. Turns out not so much. Basically, what happened was some girl in a Juke was too busy texting to not drive over to my side of the pavement and hit me square in the front bumper. Pretty frustrating...

Also apologies if the images are stupid huge, never posted any here before.

Damn... that sucks.

sklimo 09-04-2014 02:30 PM

Sorry to see this. Glad you are ok

Autocon 09-04-2014 02:41 PM

Fucking sucks :/

This is why texting and driving should be first a 1000 dollar fine, and the second time, a day in jail to really cement the fact that you can kill someone while your texting LOL YOLO SWAG. Glad your ok

WhiteFRS69 09-04-2014 02:41 PM

something like this happened to me in my old car,

only think i enjoyed about it was the fresh paint job and a clear bra installed after the work was done lol

none of it i had to pay for,

sorry that happened to ya man

Smoke Destructer 09-04-2014 02:47 PM

Thanks for the condolences everyone. I've been trying to amuse myself by mentally adding up the cost of replacement parts. Anybody know the prices for a new bumper, driver's side headlight and driver's side fender? I figure those at the bare minimum need to be replaced. The good news is that no one was hurt and that I can at least still drive it.

WhiteFRS69 09-04-2014 02:55 PM

this might be time for some nice CF goodies,

in some cases, aftermarket CF Hood are cheaper than OEM style hoods

sklimo 09-04-2014 02:58 PM

The bitch does have insurance I hope

projek_01 09-04-2014 03:01 PM

find a good shop that know how to properly blend basecoat into adjacent panels so everything matches. Make sure entire panels get clear coated with no blends.

Tcoat 09-04-2014 03:13 PM

I lost sleep after I found a dent about the size of a dime after getting hit by some debris on the highway. Not sure what shape I would be in if this happened (probably in an alcohol induced pass out)!!!
Glad you are OK though.

misooscar 09-04-2014 03:20 PM

Similar damage, impact area with deer though, Two CA bodyshops quoted 2700 without even popping the hood, my head lights are fine, not sure about yours

I found a few bumpers in the classifieds for Sale

New bumpers go for $250

Thankfully I already know a good place. They did an awesome job with my first run in with the curse (malfunctioning parking gate came down on my A pillar a month after I got the car). Blending was perfect. Now I just have to make sure her insurance will work with that shop...

Just keeping a positive attitude for now. I'm planning on showing at the local meetup tonight for giggles. I'm also thinking of pursuing a diminished value claim. I never have before, but the most expensive repairs I've ever had done to a car was around $1000. At this point, I'm pretty sure I'm well over that in parts alone. Anybody have any experience with that sort of thing?

Jyn 09-04-2014 03:35 PM

F her right in the p.

Ubersuber 09-04-2014 03:47 PM

Looks pretty much a bolt on repair which is good.

Really sorry that happened to you. My generation are idiots when it comes to driving

Braces 09-04-2014 04:16 PM

The Juke appears to have very little damage.... right side anyway. Glad you're okay and good luck with the repairs.

Smoke Destructer 09-04-2014 04:36 PM

It did have very little damage, and it was all on the driver's side. Basically just a little white paint came off on the underside of the nose. She about used my car as a ramp.

ET86 09-05-2014 03:12 AM

C**t. Make sure they match the paint, don't settle for a bad match. I had them repaint mine twice before they got it right. Good luck.

That could have gone way worse if either of you had been going just a little faster! Nothing like a bumper to the face to ruin your day.

I saw this and I frantically searched for a gif of the flip cars from F&F6, but I couldn't find one... :(

Nah, summary roadside execution, first offense.

TylerEvil 09-05-2014 05:14 PM

Smokey, Def go after that depreciated value check after the repairs are finished. The insurance company will try to tell you that they don't have to pay one. Technically speaking, I don't think they do. With that said, I had this Same thing happen to me with my 2012tc when I had it. It was about 6k in Damage, and I got a 1.2k depreciation value check after the repairs to boot. Just remember to actually put that money into your loan if you have one, the resale these days on Anything with a carfax findable wreck is so low that you basically DO need to use that money on the loan to keep yourself right side up on that loan if you care about that sort of thing. The kicker is to keep on them. Don't let the Ins company beat you down, keep on them. Sorry to see your ride get busted. Let me know if you want me to call Tony and Vinnie about a Juke owner.

Thanks Tyler, I'm not going to let up on the ins company if they put up a fight, and luckily for me my car is paid off.

I dropped the car off at the body shop today. They did a quick drivability assessment and recommended I just leave it with them until they could do an estimate on Monday. So now I get to enjoy a lovely white Chrysler 200 loaner on the ins company's dime until my baby's all better.

i'm curious what badge they will give you for your new bumper,

Do you really have a Tony and Vinnie in NC?
Wouldn't it be more like Cletus and Earl?

Smoke Destructer 09-06-2014 06:29 PM

They'll probably just slap another scion badge on there. Should probably call them about that.

And I don't question Evil Tyler. He's evil. I be the knows tons of Tonys and Vinnies. Probably tons of Cletus's and Earls.

I do not claim to know US insurance rules but for what it is worth here if you did not inform the company of mods (even as small as badging) they will only pay to repair it to stock.

imag 09-07-2014 02:46 AM

Definitely pursue the diminished value claim. This claim will show up on Carfax and reduce your car's value dramatically.

My 370Z was hit by someone in a parking lot. Fortunately for me, someone was nice enough to copy down their plate info and give it to the manager. Their insurance paid for the repair/repaint to the rear quarter panel.

But when I went to sell the car, it showed up as an accident on Carfax. Craigslist was a tough sale, so I went to a dealer out of curiosity. They told me they had no way to know whether the car was scratched or nearly totaled, so they just wouldn't consider buying it. Ended up selling on craigslist for much less than it would have been worth.

I actually thought my response was quite measured.

Sexist, racist, homophobic comments just end up excluding people.

How were any of those sexist, racist, or homophobic? If it were a dude in her place the only one not applicable would be "p" in which case we'd probably just pick another orifice.

Texting while driving? She is a bitch, ****, douchebag, shithead, dumbfuck, assclown because she has no regard for anyone else but her own goddamn self. Oh but no, let's not offend her. Save the name calling for when she actually kills someone for being what she's being called now. No I'm not overreacting. I see these living wastes of reproduction crossing into my goddamn lane all the time and it infuriates me.

And by all means steer well clear of the gross/clean thread in OT. Your mind may asplode.

t.chk 09-07-2014 11:46 PM

She sure did Juke you...haha

I am unorigional but laughing makes the immense pain hurt a little less.

Sorry about your baby OP...Hows the damage? cosmetic or frame? if frame that bitches insurance owes you a new car.

Smoke Destructer 09-08-2014 02:32 PM

Heard from the shop this morning, looks like it's just cosmetic. The estimate was for $3800 in repairs. When I get some time this afternoon I'll call them about it and ask about things like the intake and radiator mounts and other such things that would be in the line of fire. Also it's not supposed to be fixed until the 16th... Not looking forward to driving my shitty rental for that long...

Might wind up with some new wheels out of the whole ordeal though, depending on how the diminished value claim goes. I'm also going to try to leverage an alignment out of the whole deal. Been wanting to try more camber up front, just been waiting for a good time to get another custom alignment. They get expensive quick...
