Speed cats (or other driving shoes)

I really loved my Speed Cats, but I can't find size 14 anywhere. Anyone have a recommendation for where I could pick some up, or something comparable?

mattles 05-31-2012 01:27 PM

I just use adidas sambas. They are obviously not purpose built for driving/competition, but they are very similar in construction and comfort to speed cats. The only 'feature' the sambas lack is the rounded heel section.

Symbiont 05-31-2012 01:44 PM

With my long and narrow (AA) feet, I found that the rounded heel helps a lot in my crowded foot well. Regardless, I'll check those out. Do you know a good place online to order them in size 14? 15 would work, as well, but I can squeeze into 14s.

pyro530 05-31-2012 01:48 PM

Looks like Zappos has bith the Drift Cat & Speed cat in size 14.

houseofsuffering 05-31-2012 01:48 PM

have you ever used Zappos? they have 14's and 15's

Symbiont 05-31-2012 02:00 PM

I haven't, but I'll go check them out now. Thanks!

EDIT: Ordered, thanks again!

mattles 05-31-2012 02:03 PM

the only place I know of to get anything larger than 12-13 is zappos. Damn thats a big shoe.

awlllwa 05-31-2012 02:06 PM

I use Piloti. but their largest US size is 13

This sounds stupid, but check some of the "outlet" stores for these, like TJMaxx, Marshall's etc. I've found some odd-sized Pumas there a few times.

I have, as well. I went to Marshall's and Ross's already, but they didn't have any. :(

I never liked my Speed Cats. The soles were too skinny to get a good heel-toe, and they were so flat my feet would get sore (I have high arches). I'm on my 4th or 5th pair of Adidas Goodyear driving shoes; loved every single pair!

Search "Adidas Adi Racer" and see what styles you like!

Racecomp Engineering 05-31-2012 04:02 PM

Love my Samba millenniums. Never got into speedcats as a shoe that you can just wear around.

Certain Pilotis I like but I've moved on. That's my own personal preference, everyone else here loves them.

Is there any difference between 'Speed Cats' and 'Fast Cats'? Only seeing fast cats on zappos.

Interesting thread you guys got going on.

I just ordered a pair of Alpinestar's directly from them and I have to admit, I love them. They are a little pricey though but I think they are worth it. I have to say the service is also excellent!

They are Tech K-1 Shoes. I also ordered the Tech K-1 Gloves and they are awesome. You don't really need them for driving, but for karting they are great. I love the padding in the gloves. It stops a lot of the vibrations I normally get in my hands while karting.

These are the shoes. They come in 4 colours including: black, blue, red, and white. I got white. They do have a raised heel and a heel cap and the sole is fairly thin. So you really get good feeling through the soles and your heel is protected.

Subaru and Puma are sponsoring a new rally team, there might be some rad Subaru branded racing shoes available pretty soon:

Welll I can finally say after trying out the speed cats, they're not as good as some people would tell me. They were too stiff imo. Not as flexible in the way I would have liked them. I do plan on trying out the drift cats when I get the chance, maybe those will be better.

ritchelB 06-04-2012 04:00 AM

Me too. I just used Adidas. Its a good and comfortable one.

Exhaust 06-04-2012 06:57 AM

Never really bought racing "designated shoes". But if I were to use any shoe for track days it would definately be the puma el rey cross. Extremely comfortable and light, dont feel to boat like, and i can heel to toe in my friends standard pretty well.

I've got a set of Adidas Adi Racers. Not comfortable to stand in for long periods of time (e.g. working a corner at an autocross), but so long as you're sitting they're a great driving shoe. Mine are old and starting to fall apart, so I'm looking for something different to replace them.

Shagaliscious 06-12-2012 10:33 PM

I've gotten my last 3 pairs of shoes from Zappos, they are great. For driving I have a pair of these, Puma Speed Cats.

Ooo those are nice. Are they somewhat laceless as well?

They're are in the Puma store. I seen these on shelves about 3 three weeks ago, if that helps.

Guff 06-13-2012 12:58 AM

I picked up a pair of Puma Driving Force Lights a month or so ago and I am loving them! They only thing I don't like is the Ferrari badge on the side, but I don't care about it enough to not wear them, lol.

I managed to get them for $80 which was $50 off! I highly recommend them if you can score them for a good price!

I e-mailed them roughly 2 months ago. Lol. Maybe that's why... ;o

Might as well review the shoes I've tried out in the past few weeks or a while back.

https://encrypted-tbn0.google.com/im...NLuPg-e_gfAz1M Free Run +2, https://encrypted-tbn1.google.com/im...CqZwmzw9N2iFDw Free Run +3,
https://encrypted-tbn3.google.com/im...CramMlv5huD8oQ Nike Free Haven 3.0, https://encrypted-tbn3.google.com/im...zOpmortFiWUkpA Free 3.0,
https://encrypted-tbn3.google.com/im...MCCXtvs-3OOMu9 Free 4.0

The Nike Free Run +2 or +3 are really good and the Nike Free Haven 3.0 are all pretty much the same. Then I there's the Nike Free 3.0 or 4.0 which are becoming my favorites. For a low cut shoe that's light and plenty of breathability and of course the flexibility/durability, I have these in my top 3. I'd say these shoes are all a safe bet if you're not sure what kind of light shoe you might be looking for. In case you don't like them for driving then they can at least become a nice casual or running shoe for you. Plenty of styles to choose from and especially colors. They're not super expensive, $100, however you might be able to find some of these shoes on sale or past models for a cheap price.

The adidas adipure trainer... hmm... what do I have to say about it? Well I'd actually would recommend these trainers for training at the gym and for those who want some grip and a bare foot like touch/freedom of movement for driving as well. Meow at first I thought my heel might get worn out from an hour of driving in these, but these adidas trainers held up pretty well keeping my heel protected and leaving me enough flexibility for quick heel toeing. The only thing is if adidas added more grip to the forefoot and toe region then I'd might easily pick these as a go to shoe for my driving pleasure. The adidas adipure trainer will round out to $90 but I've seen these on sale on selected colors and size for about $65.

And my wild card goes to the New Balance 20 Minimus Trail 2. Try those out and you'll see why. Going for $100.

As for Puma, I still haven't tried the Drift Cat IV, but I will be soon after I tryout to see what the Evospeed Lows are like. Price for the Drifts are in the range of $70-95 and the new Evospeed are $85-110.

Vracer111 06-14-2012 11:10 PM

I like the Adidas Wrestling shoes for driving...super light weight and thin soled, yet great grip and texture like they were designed as a driving shoe from the start. Not too expensive either and come in a lot of sizes.

I have the older version of this one, but in blue instead of black:
