Hit-and-Run, Repair, Part-out, Sell?

I'm lazy and would rather not make 2 different threads, so…

Long story short: I joined the hit-and-run club a couple of days ago, but thanks to a couple of witnesses and a babe police officer that was willing to give me every bit of info attached to the person's license plate, I was able to locate them. She's insured through USAA (who are extremely generous), and after admitting liability, they have agreed to pay for my repairs at whatever shop I want and provide a rental car.

So #1, for those of you who have had minor body work (mainly bumper replacement/paint), what shop in NOVA would you recommend if you had your choice? I know there's a member on here who works at a body shop, but can't find them…

#2. Having worked at a major auto buyer/re-seller, I know the resale value on the car will take a hit once the incident makes its way to the Carfax report, regardless of how minor to incident. I am trying to sell the car before it shows up on the report (which can take a month or two). Before anyone gets bent out of shape, I plan to sell to a retail buyer/re-seller, not privately.

…so before I do try to sell, I need to change this guy back to stock as much as possible, and would need some minor help from someone with drive-way space to help (I live in a condo with a terrible HOA). So here's a list of mods I have separated into categories:

Things I need a driveway for:
- Invidia N1 titanium tipped exhaust / Invidia catted midpipe back to stock
- Eibach Sportline Springs back to stock

Things I can sell/trade:
- Grimmspeed plate re-locater to trade for black bumper tow-hook cap
- Geniune OEM Audio+ Carbon Fiber sub-woofer box to sell/trade for matte black or black paint-matched OEM Audio+ box
- Stock tail lights painted red to sell/trade for stock tail lights

Other isn I can sell:
- Spyder tail lights painted red with neoprene gasket seals
- All JDM black interior trim pieces: door handles, steering wheel center trim, HVAC and vent trim pieces, dash/radio trim pieces, A/T gear shift bezel, A/T sport mode/traction control bezel AND buttons
- Pioneer AVIC Z140-BH Navi
- XXR 521 18x8.5 (+35) wheels (not-perfect condition)
…and other minor things I might have listed in my lazy, long-forgotten "build" thread http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30243

Pics of damage or thread is kind of useless ...

Also inspectors for dealers will be able to tell it was repaired, that is their job.

Well, I'm more so looking for recommendations on where to bring the car to get the bumper repaired/repainted. And a helping hand to switch out a few mods, and a feeler for anyone interested in some parts.

You want to part out and sell because you need a new bumper?

aznatama 08-30-2014 12:45 PM

I'm interested in some of the black trim pieces...

Fwiw, if damage is extensive, I would dump the car if you're worried about resale. But that usually means a lot of damage bordering undriveable status. If it's just cosmetic, just get it fixed.

Depending on where you're located, I have plenty of parking lot space available at my complex.

OIC, in that case ask the insurance for a recommended shop. That way if the color match is shit you have some recourse since you need a good color match to sell the car and try to hide the incident.

Should be just cosmetic. The inspectors i used to work with estimate like $700 to fix.

Hit-and-run... that sucks.

Runner insured with USAA? I'd light up that persons command with this info.

It appears that the driver is the daughter of the policy holder. When I was speaking to their insurance rep, they seemed to care less about the circumstances of the incident. Im not sure who else to reach out to that would care...

Service members are directly impacted by the actions of their dependents.

Yea, but why be a **** and try to ruin a career for something that is being taken care of? If it wasn't covered, then I'd definitely hit up the command but if it's being handled properly, I see no reason to go that route.

aznatama 09-01-2014 07:33 AM

Service member isn't going to be fked by this. So their daughter may be in big trouble, and there may or may not have been a parenting fail, but command isn't going to screw the service member due to this.

The point is, things wouldn't be taken care of without the luck of having some witnesses and a lot of leg work to find this person; they were happy enough to leave me high and dry. They didn't tell their insurance company that it was a hit-and-run, nor did they (USAA) seem to care about the fact that they've insured someone with a dependent that would behave this way. No one wants to mess with this guy's career on account of his daughter's actions, but hopefully there's someone involved that would influence their behavior in the future for others who won't be so lucky as I am.

Anyways, back to the point - Anyone have suggestions for a NOVA body shop who has had work done before? Better yet, anyone work at a body shop? I kind of have to act on this tomorrow...

I'm an estimator over at Craftsman Auto Body in Gville. Have worked on a couple of the guys' 86s over here and have gotten it all taken care of. We are a USAA certified shop as well. Major 86 enthusiast and owner here, we'd be happy to take care of it for ya.

this.

spitfire481 09-04-2014 05:12 PM

A new bumper is not going to drop the value of your car. That's a little much. As far as carfax reporting, not one shop I've ever worked at reported anything to them. I doubt most insurance companies do either for a small claim like this. Also, its going to cost you more to fight for diminished value than you will get. We had a customer fight for dv on his challenger which took an $18k hit and struggled for two months to get $500 out of the insurance company. after paying for independent appraisals he didn't make crap

Nice! I may just go with your shop! I need to give the insurance rep your shop info to get the ball rolling, but will definitely let you know in the next day or so. Thanks for reaching/looking out!

My car was a hit and run too last week. Moores cadi on 50 by the Loudon county line. They do repair for every make and model. Did amazing work and quick turn around. Mom also got her crv fixed there and I got my old mustang done there too.

I actually just picked up my car from repairs today from D and V in sterling: the paint job is phenomemal, however they didnt put the bumper back on properly - you can see straight into the bay on both sides at the intersection of where the bumper, fender, and headlamp meet.

Ugh.
