DFW Spring cruise 2015 planning route! Open to suggestions!

:threadjacked:I know it's a bit early to start planning but... I found a great site to look for roads around dallas and fort worth.

http://www.motowhere.com/listpaths/c...254/region/165

Just use the search bar and search away!

EDIT:
9/5/14
https://mapsengine.google.com/map/ed...A.kUlsOfmZe3_M

a colab of dustins modified map and my map

you can request to see it and ill approve, might be going next sunday 9/14/14 to scout the rout for potholes, construction, ect

let me know if you want to go
EDIT: 9/13
so far this is the list of people going
@carbonBLUE @Shneegle @hahaman86
@spyingwind @lopro25

anyone else is welcome to join, we will be meeting at the Ol' South Pancake House 1509 S University Dr Fort Worth, TX 76107 at 10:00 am and will leave after a small breakfast. Let us know on this thread if you are running late.

Also If you still have your radios from twisted sisters, BRING EM! I should have a spare if anyone doesn't have one handy

Weather

81ºF

Also It might rain a little but looks like great temps for trying this out as the spring cruise we might see rain and close to the same temperatures! Seems like the perfect weekend for us to try it out.

Ill have pieces of paper with all the roads on them.

Also phone signal might be in and out for some of yall as we will be out in the boondocks. Download Maps.ME or MapFactor Navigator. These apps use your gps and maps from your phone's memory so if you are stuck in an area without internet and google maps isn't working for ya. These apps will.

The purpose of the scouting run is to check the quality of roads and to find stopping points for our spring cruise in 2015.

I will be at a brisk pace but probably no more than that. If someone else chooses to lead our small group at a quicker pace or if you want to go faster than I want to, be my guest.

Do take in consideration that it might be damp or raining that day, of other people on the road, of the small and very large animals we might see, ect ect. This is not a track for us to go balls out on but just as a fun run on some back twisty roads. BE SAFE AND DRIVE SMART!

EDIT
I will be using
Track Navigator app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...tracknav&hl=en

with this file for the trip

Spring 2015? This is like 6 months away...

Dustin 08-30-2014 10:06 AM

That route is in my neck of the woods. I just went over the most of it and it definitely needs some refinement. It's missing out on some good roads and has us going on some not so good ones. Also, while it has some that "look good" on the map, they're not what they may seem to be in person. For instance, the roads going around Weatherford Lake are fun, but very narrow and there are a lot of houses so you have to ramp down the speed on them. Also last time I went down them a few weeks ago, they were doing some road work. Now hopefully in 6 months time it will be done, but it still is a narrow street. The route will definitely need to be driven once or twice to determine the best way to go about it.

Texaz Boy 08-30-2014 10:30 AM

Sweet. I'm always down for a cruise. Still hyped about three sisters as well!

Yeah this is why im posting ahead of time, it's easy to get to to. Any refinement to thw route would be great! Does anyone wanna scout it before winter?

Dustin 08-30-2014 06:44 PM

Like I said, my neck of the woods. I'm sure I'll drive it here in the near future.

G-Man 08-30-2014 07:13 PM

the part by weatherford lake is by my mom's house its a really fun road. I have not been on a cruise with you so don't know how crazy people get but I always have fun through there.

how crazy we get? i think twisted sisters was about as crazy as we have gotten so far lol

the dallas group finished about 10 minutes faster than everyone else and we took 2-3 extra breaks other groups didn't take. If that is good reference. :)

Dustin 08-30-2014 08:39 PM

But remember who led us, lol. @TEWwild

carbonBLUE 08-30-2014 09:23 PM

Ohh i sure do remember, and next year ill be in what ever group he is in for sure lol. But still i think we should be along at a pretty brisk pace if we run into zero traffic.

Dustin 09-01-2014 01:26 PM

I think next Tuesday I'll go for a good drive. I've already made some changes where I know it needs it but I'll have a better idea of the whole route after giving it a good run. So far it looks to be about a 4 hour drive.

Wow! How many miles?

Dustin 09-02-2014 12:48 AM

About 150 miles by my route.

Dustin 09-02-2014 12:49 AM

Too many points to make 1 map so I had to make 2. Starting at Ol' South Pancake House and ending at Freebirds.

who were you before? :P

demby123 09-03-2014 02:04 AM

Might want to note that Benbrook lake is a nice scenic place but it has a low speed limit and deer.

I think its about 2.50 or 5 bucks or so to get in.

There's a lot of bikers too so that gets frustrating.

i used to be a member here and somehow the admin deleted my account. i got my fr-s in december 2012 and i wanted to read up in the forum to get ideas on some mods and to know where to get parts around here in dfw and i was looking for a shop that can blackout my tail lights. then... i saw you guys thread.

do you guys have a facebook group?

Dustin 09-03-2014 11:04 AM

Took a drive on the second part of the map yesterday and we won't even have access to the roads by Benbrook Lake. It is a camp ground that is gated and only park officials and bicyclists have access through. FM 5 is good but I was stuck behind a truck and it took a while for even me by myself to pass him. Lots of traffic. I'm looking at a few roads south of it that I haven't driven before. Also part if the route goes on Bear Creek Rd and while there is not a lot of traffic, the road surface isn't great. Old Airport Rd has a better road surface but there is a little more traffic. Pick your poison I guess.

@Dustin
@Shneegle

its a bit long about 260 miles

averaging 60mph it would take 4 hours and 20 min

end location has a lot of places to eat, doesn't have to be boomerjacks

end point is center of DFW so it would be easy for everyone to get home

https://mapsengine.google.com/map/ed...A.kUlsOfmZe3_M

whole map

Shneegle 09-05-2014 03:36 PM

The route does look good, time to investigate the route and see if we could be running into issues with cops/potholes/construction.

Was hoping you would go, after looking at the map... can you make it the whole way on corn juice?

Dustin 09-07-2014 11:15 AM

I'll probably do like I did in San Antonio, carry an extra 5-10 gallons in the trunk just in case.

Texaz Boy 09-07-2014 10:28 PM

Can I join yall?

demby123 09-08-2014 11:55 PM

I doubt i'll be able to go, since i'll be autocrossing that day.
