Sticker Residue
 

So I got the FRS about a month ago, and it had these decal stickers on the sides of the car, about the entire length of each side. I didn't have time to wait for the dealership to take them off, due to time constraints and I didn't think they looked bad, but I decided to take them off two days ago. I used a hair dryer as some instructions told me too, and I ended up using goo gone to try and get the residue off. I spent about an hour a day the past two days trying to scrub the residue off but it's not really working at all, at least it's very minimal. Is there any other technique to this? Been driving around with sticky residue on the sides of the car.

It looks great, and the reviews look good, but it seems like it's not available here in the states without paying a pretty costly shipping price :(

TarX works great. Try autogeek.

3M adhesive and wax remover. You can get it from Pep Boys or AAP. Just make sure you re-wax the area afterwards as it strips wax off as well.

Sorry to hear of your troubles... Been there, done that.

This is just me but I wouldn't try too hard to take off the residue yourself. Consult a experienced detailer and see if he / she can assist you. There have been times where I've tried very hard to take similar residue off my previous cars, and sometimes I've made the situation worse by applying the incorrect technique or just simply trying too hard while testing out the different solutions advertised out in the market.

I was considering this from the start, but I got a quote of around 150 and I figured that was too much, but I'm gonna give it one more attempt and see if it works out, if not I'll just give it to a detailer.

I see... Try getting multiple quotes. Maybe even try posting up a thread on your regional forum section to network with your fellow local FR-S / BRZ owners to see who they can advise / link you with... Usually works (maybe one of them details part-time or as a hobby). Try it...

there is an orange citrus cleaner that actually removes that stuff better than goo gone.

Pure lemon oil (or any pure citrus) will work better than a lot of those mentioned above.
The 3M works but is very expensive.

You might try alcohol ...... then wax.

Ended up spending about an hour with WD-40, that didn't quite work. I tried goo gone again and it ended taking all the residue off. Just took a lot of work, bought some wax and car wash soap today as well, but it ended up raining before I could get the chance to wax the areas. I've never waxed a car before, any suggestions?

You really sprayed WD-40 on your paint?

The fact that you've never waxed a car I would probably have left this job to a professional.

I don't know if your stickers are more stubborn than dealer stickers on the rear of the car. I used spray wax wax and paper towels, the kind of wax spray you would use between regular waxing. It gently (but not quickly) dissolved the residue and obviously did not strip the paint surface. I was comfortable that no damage was done. It may be too tedious on large stickers.

Just read and follow the directions on the can/bottle ....... :)

Alternatively, you can also use off the shelf cooking oil to remove any sticker residue. Works great & doesn't damage paint.

I used a hand steam cleaner and detailing clay to remove the residue and bits they missed after the dealer attempted to remove the pin stripes they put on the car, I also used it for debadging.

^steamer is also good to remove tint if you diy .fwiw

WD40 is mineral spirits and oil. Shouldn't harm paint.

Instead of making a new topic figured I'd just ask in here. So I got the car over two months ago, and noticed there's a lot of dings on the paint already, it's already chipping off on my bumper. What can I do to protect this car from here on out?

Also I've been looking up some more DIY projects that I can save up and do myself, was looking at air intakes, they seemed interesting. I found an installation video and this product link.

Any thoughts or reviews on it? Seemed easy enough to install, but are there any CONs to a new intake?
