Hello all!
I'm relatively new to the ft86 club and recently purchased a 2014 BRZ about a month ago. I'm always looking for things to mod but there aren't many of these around in upstate New York. At the moment I have spyder tails and third brake light ordered and a kartboy shorty ordered. I've been debating the Perrin 3" resonated with Perrin overpipe but would love to see/hear in person. So I really want to be able to check out other builds before I do mods myself. Are there any meets around the area? I'm willing to travel but to an extent...
Here's a pic of my beauty as she sits now!
Any comments or opinions are welcome!

I think first mod should be reinstalling the stock wheels

kylethomas23 08-29-2014 09:34 PM

Free to your own opinion, but these will be staying on

well then you better mod the driver cause those gotta go :laughabove:

kylethomas23 08-29-2014 10:02 PM

Lol I mean you guys can say whatever you want its not going to hurt my feelings... I think they look sick on the car in person and thats all that matters so the stocks won't be going back on until winter. I appreciate the honest opinions though its nice to know what people think!

Mad1723 08-29-2014 10:03 PM

Wheels are pretty meh, but it's your car. Just don't rice it up and we won't hunt you down :P

kylethomas23 08-29-2014 10:05 PM

@Mad1723 , thats what I need to get some opinions on, I'm afraid it will start looking like rice. I'm thinking about throwing an OEM or TRD spoiler on but again, I would love first hand opinions

Man this is turning into a rough crowd! Pay no attention to these nitwits, I like your wheels. :D As for mods you'll want to start saving up for one of these...

Appreciate the compliment! I would love to put some boost in also. But that won't be for a while due to it being my daily driver and I live in upstate NY. Once it becomes a summer car in the next couple years, there will be boost. I still can't decide between a turbo or supercharger. So many pro's and con's to each.

That indeed is the eternal question. And then when you decide there's the matter of "who's kit?" and then "who's tune?"

I've been reading about FI options for these cars since I got mine two years ago and its taken that long for me to decide.

I'm sure I will be the same exact way. When it comes to something major like that I will want it to be absolutely perfect(not that everything else shouldn't be perfect). I've heard great things about the innovate twin screw SC, and the greddy turbo, but I need to see something in person when it comes time to making the decision

Those wheels aren't any worse than stock. The stock wheels do a pretty good job hiding our tiny little cast aluminum brake calipers, if I swapped wheels, I'd probably be tempted to have my calipers painted gloss black or silver.

Perrin 2" shorty antenna?

JDM clear side-markers?

5Axis rear spoiler?

"BRZ" de-badge?

OE mud-guards?

I do like the idea of painting the calipers, or just upgrading them completely. I was also leaning more towards a shark fin, but can't wrap my head around how something so simple can be approx $120. I do like the other ideas and can definitely see them happening in the coming months. I was thinking about black rally armors instead of regular guards, but dont know if its too "ricey" lol. Do you have any of these done to yours that I can see pics?

Marco_86 08-30-2014 12:22 AM

I think you can find the meets on the ny sub forum. If that's any help

Knshro13 08-30-2014 12:24 AM

Those wheels aren't bad at all. The white on the wheels, I'd reconsider.

Veloist 08-30-2014 12:24 AM

I like how your car looks man, I think it would look great with a front lip and side skirts that have black accents, since your car is white.

Good luck and have fun!

I wish the white on the wheels color matched the car, that may come in the future. And what NY forums would the meets be posted on?

Yup!

So far:
Perrin 2" shorty antenna.
JDM clear side-markers.
Optima sealed battery.
TRD cold-air intake.
"FR-S" de-badge.
OE mudguards.

Future plans:
Saddle brown leather seats with red stitching.
TRD cat-back exhaust.
Unichip tune.

Hi op! Congrats on the new car! :) I'd agree with a few of the comments but I'll elaborate!

I'd definitely go with some mudguards: I personally have the rally armors and they were an easy install and super high quality.

Full LED swap: the stock halogen bulbs on the interior and exterior are ugly, a full LED swap probably wouldn't be more than 50 bucks for some stage 2 or 3s from @diodedynamics

Taillights: the only thing I have to say that is ugly about the stock frs are those god-awful tails, I'd personally go for the Red Tom's or some buddy clubs, or if you're feeling adventurous, the Crystal eyes, but I don't know how high quality those are.

I can't see how flush your wheels are but if you're not planning on getting thicker wheels, I'd go for some wheel spacers to put them flush to the fender, it makes look a billion times better.

New hood and trunk lid spoiler: now granted this is a gonna be over 2k total between paint and parts, but VIS racing has a carbon fiber trunk lid spoiler that replaces the trunk completely, as well as a vented hood, both if they were tastefully paint matched would look sick as fuck. Those are what I'm doing anyways!

And lastly, at least in the looks, department, are a shark fin antenna or shorty antenna, and also some springs! Make that bitch aerodynamic!

Good luck man, keep us posted on what you do!

Thanks man! The attached images are the tails and third brake light which have been order(back ordered) but will be coming withing the next month or so. The rims now are 18x8 but could use .5 - 1.0 inch more space. I'm glad you like the rally armors because that is probably the direction I'll choose to go. As for the hood, I'm not a huge fan of hood scoops. I will look into the trunk, I've never heard of the one you mentioned before but its worth a look!
Also, do you have anything going on under the hood or interior wise? I want the car to look clean as fuck when the hood is popped and the doors are open. I could really care less about how fast it goes, I'm all about looks and sound.
Thanks for the input!Attachment 89350Attachment 89351

Mm, those tails are clean! I love em, can't wait to see Em lit up. :) For the rally armors, dude if you went for the red ones it would clean as hell.

As for underneath the hood, I don't know a ton, but if you don't care about how fast it goes, I'd go for a trd cold air intake, a raceseng lightened pulley set (do your research first though and see if you feel comfortable with it), nd some carbon fiber overlays. That'll make it look very nice, give you a small mpg boost with the CAI, and a bit more acceleration with the pulley set along with the billet aluminum really catching the eye with the carbon fiber.

Oh and regarding the hood, it doesn't have a scoop, scoops are (imo) reallllyyy fuckin dumb and just add drag, it's vented instead http://frs-tuner.skipthediet.com/wp-...d_by_VIS_1.jpg

And trunk lid: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...1&d=1377064129 tastefully done with paint match would look non-ricey and very clean

Will do! There was an AMP car meet at Clifton park Walmart a few weeks ago and I saw a whiteout FRS parked but nobody was near it. I just really want to get together with other owners and see what they have done

Thank you! I will for sure look into that. There's so many clean looking things to do but I feel like I'm all over the place trying to find matching colors, carbon fibers, brands, etc. I don't want it to look all thrown together like an experiment.

Don't worry about it brutha.. do this.. compile a list and just see what would look good in yourhead, think about it, and then pull the trigger. If you put some thought in it will for sure look good. :)

Shady195 08-30-2014 02:23 AM

I don't have anything done yet. Usually I'm in a bit of a rush but I think im going to wait till after this winter..

What I plan to do..

Winjet Headlights
Either Toms or Valenti's with the White
TRD Springs (Until I get some seat time at the track i don't want to mess with suspension to much, eventually a good set of proper coilovers)
Invidia N1 or the Q300 with Titanium Tips
EL header (I want the smooth sound, I do love the boxer but I think a smoother tone fits this car)
Just a drop in filter, maybe the GrimmSpeed intake if it is as promising as it looks
OFT Tablet

I have a k&n drop in filter and in my honest opinion can't tell the difference. I will be doing most of my upgrades come spring time too so make sure you post some before and after pics of your build! Good luck

I personally like matte black trims, but go with what suits your taste.

I really like the STI kit, but one guy at our local meet got a set of side skirts from ebay for $80 and it looked great; not tacky whatsoever.

Hmm $80 bucks seems pretty cheap... I could never buy that without seeing it in person to actually check it out

dalli 08-30-2014 08:48 AM

Yo OP,

i like the wheels to be honest and think they will look better on the car if lowered. Look into pro-kit from Eibach(about 1 inch) or RCE yellows(about .8 inches)
