Window Tinting NYC

Hi guys,

This might have been asked before, but I was wondering if there was any places around NYC that you would recommend for a great window tint service for the BRZ?

I've been looking around, but I can't seem to trust anyone. One that would have a great turn around time in terms of getting it back in a matter of hours and etc.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Not sure what part of NYC you're in but if you want to make a trip to Rockland county (about 25 mins away from the GW bridge) there is a shop here called Sams window tinting and he does an awesome job. All his tints are life time warrantied and he offers 3M.

Check out The Tint Shop in Queens. They used to be in Great Neck and I paid 130 plus tax for 3M FX Premium with lifetime warranty against bubbles fading peeling and discoloration (had a coupon from their website).

Thanks a lot! Never knew this was so close to where I live. It's literally less than 10 minutes away. They seem pretty legit too. I've been hesitant on bringing my cars to other places because of faulty or not reliable shops.

This seems legit though. $130 for all windows?

It was the front sides, rear sides, and back. Windshield was extra and I chose not to do that (NY cops will be all over that).

Regular price is 150 I believe, still a good deal. Several of us here have used their services.

I went with 35% and I think it's perfect on my DGM. 25% if you want it darker. More than that, and you start inhibiting your nighttime vision.

Thanks for that. Do you mind sending any pics of 35% tint on your DGM? I think the limit is 30% and I kind of want to go 30% if 35% is too light.

Thanks for the help!

Check my garage pic to the left, there's also a tint thread in the cosmetic section that I contributed a sample to http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?p=649496

What state is your car registered in? NY tint can't be more than 75% or something stupid like that in the front sides. Cops usually won't hassle you unless you go really dark though.

My car's registered in NY, so the law is to let light in at 70%. Which means 30% is the legal limit. Or am I reading that wrong?

No that means 70% is the legal limit, considering stock our cars are about 75% I'd say you can't legally add any tint unless it is transparent.

Well, that's a bummer. Then there would be no reason for me to tint the car without it being tinted illegally and potentially attracting cops...

ZionsWrath 08-28-2014 09:25 AM

I got tints on my last car. I asked for 35%. When I got pulled over and ticketed it metered 21%.

I won't put tint on my BRZ

I was actually going to go put tints on my car today by the place that poster above mentioned, but since there is really no point in doing so without being illegally tinted....then maybe I won't do it anymore.

I think it just depends on your preference. I only pulled over once for tint in that car. car still has it, I just avoid rich neighborhoods where cops have more down time.

I have been pulled over I think 4 times in my BRZ and I'm quite glad I don't have tint ^_^ just something for them to add on the ticket if they feel like it

Correct. Taking stock tint into account, almost any amount of additional tint will be illegal in NY.

I've seen other cars with additional tint and I always wonder how many times do they really get pulled over by the police...

That's amazing. I'm still tempted to tint, but now a little concerned.

I live in upstate NY with 35% where cops are more lenient on tint. I never got pulled over for tint in the half year I had them on (even when I got pulled over twice for something else).

NYC is another story, though. Prepare to be hassled.

Yea and you may not be hassled often but they like to tack on for each window, be glad we have a coupe so it's only 2. Last time I was at court for a speeding ticket a guy had 4 for his sedan.

And also remember, NYC there is no "plea bargaining" which means unless you can prove your ticket is bogus (which you 99% cant) you have to pay it and if it has points you get the points. Not like in Yonkers or out of NYC where you can get your speeding tickets reduced to non moving violations.

And that, is the reason why I drove a rental down to NYC last weekend and my gf's forrester down the weekend before. Tinted windows and no front license plate, makes me a little cautious.

I've seen cars like ours (sporty and what-not) being pulled over for no reason. I've already taken the brave route and have driven it to the actual city already. While that was terrifying because of the damn taxis, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Although, I did drive late at night. Still pretty hectic though.

Instead of making a trip to get my windows tinted, I may just drive down to get my EZ Pass.

OMG, plz get an ez pass

I dont understand people that don't have it. Sometimes the lines are back up more than 1/4 mile for cash lane, like WTF?!

Oh I know. I have an EZ Pass for my old car. I just have to register my BRZ so I can get it's own pass.

You can just call them and ask them to mail you another tag. That's what I did when I wanted a second one.

I was thinking about doing that, but I was thinking of doing a Bear Mountain drive over this weekend and I think they give out the EZ Pass at the office right?

I've had tints on my car for 2 years now. Suffolk/Nassau cops never bother me, but then again if I gave them a reason to pull me over, I'm sure they'd hit me for the tints as well.

The way I see it, everyone on long island has tints it seems. I'll take my chances, if I get a ticket, I'll pay the piper. If I get a ticket once every 3 years, I'll consider that a fair price for my evil sins.

Some of the best tinters in NYC. They did my BRZ in 2 hours and everything was flawless
