If you had 5,000$ and a stock FRS..
What would you spend that on and why?
Just a little fun. Wanting to know people's reasoning behind their spending and all, haha. |
|
I'd buy porsche stuff. Jacket, shoes, sunglasses.....
Then I'd park in front of a starbucks and tip the Barristas 100s until my evil plan worked. |

If balance remained on car, pay off balance.
If car completely paid off, invest half, spend rest on a tune/header/minor tidbits. |
OFT + OFH = $1000. Smoother power delivery and slight bump in power and torque.
Better wheels and tires = $2000. Improved grip/performance. RCE Tarmac 0 = $1600. Improved handling. Various bushings = $400. Better feel. |
-17x8 or 17x9 +35 light wheels
-good rubber -Catless headers + your choice of CBE (prefer lighter than stock) -OFT w/ stg2 tune That's $3.5-4K; rest on fees, helmet, track time. |
Add Michelin Super Sports--done. Take the remaining 4200 and drive out to Cali and run the entire PCH. Why are all the great roads so far away? :mad0259:
|
find cheap or used turbo/supercharger(2800-3500)
st coilovers(750) Good(lightweight) wheels/tires used OR Good(sticky) tires for stock wheels(750-1450) Makes for a darn fun, quick daily driver that can be used for occasional autox/trackday. Obviously nothing too crazy for track days, but if I was a super track junkie it would be bolt-ons, tune, suspension, wheels/tires...IF I was limited to 5k. |
Go to the Philippines and spend money like a king.
|
I had $5k and this is what I spent it on:
SSR Type Cs and Michelin Pilot Super Sports: $1600 FT86SF header, Motiv front pipe/over pipe, Greddy SP Elite: $1700 4.10 to 4.56 final drive diff swap (includes tools, parts, and spare diff to build it): $1000 Drop in air filter and silicone intake: $140 |

$5000 for a full turbo build? Including all the necessary supporting mods and tuning?
Hahahahaha if only... |
Catback Exhaust - $850
OEM Audio Plus Reference Series - $1500 Pro Kit Springs -200 TRD Cold Air Intake - 350 Spacers - 200 5 Axis Rear spoiler - 400 HID Lights - 250 BBK - 2500 |
I already have a TRD cat-back, but I`ll say it`s stock.
TRD Cat-Back(1000) OFH + OFT(1000) Good summer tires(700) Rest on tracking it. |
FA20club turbo kit and tune.
|
I'm more conservative in terms of modifying cars.
But say I won a prize for being able to modify my car for up to $5K total, I'd probably get: - Sound deadening door panels - New Satnav head unit - New set of wheels |
I hate to look over what I spent on my car but I guess I've spent 5k on it now lol
AP sprint kit with Stainless brake lines, Track and street pads Track wheels/tires Alignment gear (Racesang Cascams front/SPL rear LCA) Although expensive up front I consider these kind of bang for buck mods. Hear me out Track brake kit will reduce wear cost because 1 track only pads, 2 BBK make track pads wear less, 3 if i ran a street pad at track it would wear real fast Wheels/tires, kind of same as brakes, don't have to compromise and run a tire I may overheat and chunk or something, plus if I get a flat on the street it won't ruin my track day Alignment, I guess self explanatory. Alignment is a very key aspect in tracking even more so than buying coilovers IMO But I guess I typed all this assuming you want to track your car. If not then I wasted my time ^_^ |
SACHS Coilovers [$2k normally, but quite a bit more affordable when you work for them ;)]
17x9 RPF1s w/ good rubber for track days [another $2k] Project MU Club Racer pads for track days [$400] Berk single exit track pipe [$135, or around $80 used] and spend the rest on track time. :D (This is pretty much my plan anyways lol) |
Supercharger.
Since it would be my only mod to start with, the boost and tune would be mild only putting around 250hp to the wheels. Then as funds come in add more mods. |
Budget $5k build:
$1600 - TC105N 17x8 $400 - Federal 595RSR 235/40/17 $100 - camber bolts + rear diff inserts $300 - Ferodo ds2500 pads + ATE200 fluid $900 - JDL UEL header $500 - OP + FP $600 - Perrin oil cooler $500 - OFT ------- $4900 Then track days. |
I'd seriously consider putting it towards a supercharger on the FR-S but more than likely I'd put it in my C7 Corvette fund for when I buy the FR-S a garage buddy.

Best investment ever lmao |
option 1:
SPD turbo kit' Oil Cooler OFT Full exhaust Tires Option 2: Phantom ESC 1.5 dump conversion full exhaust intake OFT Tires |
If you gave me 5k right now, I'd get a Stage 1 tune, new clutch and brakes, and 4 new sets of oem tires.
Also been eyeing a tomei 60s. Also I'd replace my windshield glass which is chipped up. |
