Centerline marker question.

I was watching a promotional video for the 2015 FR-S. Like most of us, I wanted to see if there were any differences between my 2014 and the 2015. One thing they called out in the video I hadn't even noticed was the center line ridge on top of the dashboard near the defrosting vents. Does this thing actually serve a purpose?

pics? better description? link to video? Help us out here, your question is kinda vague when we can't see what you see.

I think that is on my 2013...

Here is the video. Just don't understand why they would call this out.

It is a small raised rib in the center of the dash, seen on the far right side of this picture:

^^^ Not my dash, just a pic I found in Google.

is it your dash bud? or its a pic you found on google?

Dake 08-14-2014 12:42 PM

It's on my 2013 - though I did not think it was anything other than a flourish until it was pointed out in this thread. Is is supposed to help people know where the car is pointed?

Shady195 08-14-2014 01:18 PM

Also have it on my 2013..

It's a good solid reference point on the dash in correspondence to the front right of the car

ericmpena 08-14-2014 01:21 PM

I have this also, but I never use it for anything.

Silver Ignition 08-14-2014 02:53 PM

my 2013 has it. Dafuq is it?

HerrFunf 08-14-2014 03:29 PM

My 2014 has it. Here's what the 86 Development story says about it:

"On the other hand, they incorporated ideas that had been fed back from racing, for example by placing a small mark in the center of the top of the instrument panel so that the driver could be aware of the center of the vehicle"

why, I dont know. I only race karts.

Oh lord

extrashaky 08-14-2014 05:44 PM

It's so you know where to attach your yaw string.

Dake 08-15-2014 05:16 PM

I always figured the center of the car was the area between the corners. ;)

Seriously though, I find it's more important to know where your wheels are than where the dead center of the car is when it comes to corners.

But the corners don't tell you where to put the yaw string. The centerline marker does.

Damn. All this time I could have been working on my centerline-marker skills. Stupid dash cover.

OTOH, if you don't know where the center of the FR-S is without an indicator, that probably wont help you much anyway.

LOL, "rear seating for two additional passengers."

ETA: I want to know how much I paid for that, as the space between the center vents is pretty much dead-center of the car. WTF.
