$150 to fix a small dent?
So the other day some lady opened her door and slammed it right into my car as she was getting in. The damage is right behind the door handle on the drivers side closer to the rear tire, at the level of the door handle. It's about the size of a quarter and reflects with light so it's very noticeable. I got out, looked at it and point it out to her and she blows me off and says "Sue me, you have no proof it was me and your car isn't going to be hot and new forever.“ And took off without me being able to get a license plate number. Today I had it checked out for an estimate and it came to $150 to pop the dent out with no paint work since the paint looks fine. The question is, does this seem like a good price? Too high or just right?

Wow, Women like that are just lacking a good 'ol banging from their men. I bet her she has her husband on a leash. Any pics of the damage?

I'm sorry, I would've returned the favor to her.

Sorry to hear. At least you handled yourself like a pro and I don't think there was anything better you could've done in that spur of moment... Given the lady was not cooperative.
I would hit up a local dealer's dent guy or someone that works dents on the side, and see what he can do for you. I've got away with a gentleman fixing it for $30-$40 and a well done job in the past. $150 is way too much, I feel... But then again, I am stingy, lol. |
no phone? license plates can't be that hard to memorize right? In any case, should've prevented her from leaving, and called the police for a report.
In any case, your insurance should cover it under uninsured motorist maybe? |
150 is astronomical for a PDR, my guy charges me 10 bucks a dent. I think he charges other 40 a dent.
It literally takes him less than 10 minutes to pop/smooth a dent out. I'd kicked the shit out of her car btw. |
Depends on the location. The area right behind the handle is near the edge, probably reinforced, and could take a lot of time to remove. I've seen certain dents take 10min, while some others take an hour. It all depends though. Should always ask for several estimates.

that sounds quite high. i can recommend a person if you're in the NOVA area.
|
Anyone know anyplace on long Island, new York? I might go shop around at places and see other estimates. I literally sat there like Did this s**t just happen...
|
I got quoted $175 for a dent on my front fender.. Definitely gonna look around.
|
Where do you guys live that has people doing PDR for ~$50? Everywhere around here is around $150 and it's MINOR, very light dent that's not very noticeable. I called everywhere and I can't get anything below $100.

I took my 1-month old '15 BRZ S.B back to the dealer for a complimentary 1,000 mile lookover just yesterday and had arranged for the dealer's local 'dent guy' to meet me there at the same time to fix a REALLY small ding I noticed the first week I had the car (hardly noticeable to the casual observer, but it was noticeable to me at least, and that was enough when everything else remains pristine) . My salesman had told me he charged between $50-$100 a dent fix...set me back the right-down-the-middle price of $75. Which seems on the pricey side to me, so $150 sounds really high. But I'm in the Cincy area and it looks like replies from CA folks above aren't overly shocked by your estimate, so I guess the bottom line is, depends where you are geographically. Sorry to hear your experience, and I, too, offer my congrats on your restraint (although I'd be tempted to follow her and secretly return the favor with a tire iron myself).

I have been quoted 150-180 for a rather large dent. I would have no problem with 150 if they do a good job.
|
I paid $180 CAD for a medium sized dent, terrible place too. If you have a small knick, I'm sure some shop would do it for you for like <$50.
That being said, sorry for that shit happening to you :/ |
$100 max is reasonable. $50 should be the price.
|
Btw, I bet she got an accident on her way home and someone said the same thing to her that she did to you.

I've had a number of dents taken out already. Price around Austin, TX is about $75-$100 per dent, but if you look around you can find people who will cut you a deal. First time I took my car I had 2 door dings removed for $100 ($50 each). Second time I went I had 2 more dings removed from one door for $100 ($50 each) and 6 dings removed from the other door for $225. Then the very last time I went I had a single dent removed for $75. The originally told me it would be $100 to remove the single dent, but I explained that I was a regular customer and they dropped it to $75.
I called around to a lot of places in Austin and everyone has the same price. They're going to tell you $75-$100, depending on where the dent is located. Don't let them bullshit you and tell you, "well, it's $100 because it's going to take more time." They told me that it was gonna take 2-3 hours for the work to be done, and 20 minutes later they're like, "Your car is ready." They know it's fast and easy work for them...they just try to justify their $100 quote with pretending it's a hard, long job. |
I have a dent below my door and the quotes have neen north of $300...
|
pricing is correct. im in houston texas.
i got 3 small dents in 2 panels removed for $250. |
My dealer's service department is also a "collision center" with a full body shop. Last time I was in there for an oil change (which is a whole story unto itself that I might tell some time), I asked for one of the body guys to come out and look at a 1/2" paint chip in my hood from a rock. He said that if it were just the paint chip they could touch it up, but since it was dented it would require the entire hood to be repainted for $600.
I laughed. I'd rather put my $600 toward a kevlar hood. $150 for paintless dent removal from somebody who actually knows what he's doing doesn't sound unreasonable to me. You might be able to find someone cheaper, but I would want some references or reviews to back up his skill. |
I just noticed a small dent in the Drv door, but it is near the middle of the door, so I suspect easy to remove.
Has anyone tried the dry ice method? As I understand it, you just press the dry ice on the dent, and the cold will shrink it and pop it out. I would just try it, but I am afraid of the risk to the paint. Anyone try it themselves? |
I would punch and kick her door and say "sue me if you want. you have no proof it was me" then i drive away too
