What's your daily driver? (non-86 content)

I spend a ton of time in the tech section but never make it over here, figured I'd share the love of something other than a BRZ / FR-S. Feel free to post your daily driver slash non-86 car!

Here's my daily driver / tow rig:

The daily I've had for the last four years: 1995 Toyota T100 with the 2.7L 3RZ motor. And yes, it's seen some time on the track too. lol

MokSpeed 08-11-2014 04:47 PM

Daily the FRS. All the other cars I own have 2JZs in them.

BRZZZZZZZZZZ 08-11-2014 05:26 PM

Currently drive both the BRZ and my S/C NA Miata if it was running right...

Take those headlights out, bake them, paint them, and then give that car moar low. I wouldn't have gotten rid of mine but I was already having transmission issues at 50k miles.

anyway.. current daily. Forgive the dirty wheels. Stock pads dust like crazy and that's about what it looks like after a week.

So?

Look at his join date. He's been a part of the forum since before the car came out. I did the same, and didn't end up with a twin either. It was in the plans but then I chose another route.

Didn't intend to solicit such a reaction but hey...

same here, I was going to choose the twins route early 2013 but leaned more into the Z. I was craving power and was going to get the twins for the wrong reasons, they look nice and all but I knew it was only a matter of time before I would regret it

We're a rare breed nowadays.

I joined when the rumors were saying 2500lbs, and the concepts had super sexy looking taillights.

I know those motors infinitely better than I know my way around a mod motor. This time around, though, Ford made a better car. Namely, a car I can see out of. I'd probably have gotten a 1LE, but when I was ordering (lease end, needed a car within a few months) Recaros weren't available yet and I knew that the 2014 facelift was coming. Also, a 2SS/RS 1LE with NPP exhaust and nav (I refuse to have a big screen in the car without nav, that's just dumb) stickered for 5k more, and the Ford store gave me invoice on my car. The Mustang was a better buy in March of 2013. I'll probably pick up a used stick SS sedan when I need to move on, because LS3+TR6060.

All good bro, all that tells me is that you like cars, not having a dig at all.

B&G S3. They were very stiff, and I had rear-end suspension clunks but it seems like everyone else who lowered on coils did too. Sold the car before I figured out what it was.

Story time.

I'll save the disappointment now and say B&G doesn't make them anymore. It was the weekend and I was prepping to move on Monday from IL to SC at the time, so I dropped my car off at a shop with the parts and asked them to install. No problem, they said! They've done other coil installs before!

Couple hours later I get a call that everything is set to go, but there's a problem. There were two right front (I think) coilovers in the box, but they went ahead and installed them and made it work.

........WUT?! Put it back to stock! I'm not driving on that! "Uh, we can't do that." And this is where my ignorance sets in because I'd never really looked at the suspension on the car before dropping it off. He said they'd cut the OEM upper mount to use it on the coilovers, so the OEM stuff couldn't be reused. But it's safe to drive on for a short distance! But they need to be fixed properly soon... Goddammit stupid shop..

So anyway, I call up B&G and tell them what happened, and the guy said that because they were installed there was nothing he could do. So I was more pissed now. I didn't go off on the guy since you know, not his fault.. but I did give him my story that I was crunched for time and the stupid shop fucked it up and I'm sure he knew I was upset. He asked if I can be put on hold for a few minutes and he gets back on and says he'll call me back. Ten or fifteen minutes later I get a call that he's overnighting a correct coilover to the shop, on a Saturday, so it's going to end up costing them way more money than they'd like. But it "needs to be done" so I can have the car ready to make the cross-country move in a few days.

Anyway, yeah, that's my story. B&G customer service was great and went above and beyond when I needed it and I will never forget that.

Here is my new DD. I'll post pictures of it when I'm finished cleaning it up from the previous owner. I need to re-paint the "rusted out" fender and fix all the other terrible mods the original owner did. Good news is I found out the wheels are Enkei's when I was stripping that awful high viz yellow paint off.

Yessir I can and already have. I left my stock exhaust for the FRS at my friends shop and finally got it out. It is crazy how much interior room that car has.

I entered it in a rally cross event this weekend. I used to do them all the time with my 98 2.5rs and I miss it.

How does "well, we have the wrong part, so let's go ahead and just ghetto-rig it" win over "well, we have the wrong part, so let's call the customer and see what he wants us to do?"" Like, how the fuck do these people start a business, let alone stay in business??

I've got a 97 honda nighthawk 750 motorcycle...

I commute quite a bit, so its nice not racking up the miles on the frs

I often wonder how companies like this stay in business. It blows my mind that shops who claim they have "experienced" technicians pull this shit off and still stay in business. Furthermore, how can you even live with yourself knowing you've basically cheated a customer?

Luckily no snow so all the ones I'm looking at are <$6k with zero rust which I'm sure makes some people rather jealous...

I think this sums up 80% of my experiences with independent mechanics.

I don't go to independent mechanics anymore.

Janky welds, incorrect trim pieces (wrong color), oh we couldn't rebuild the old driveshaft we just fabbed a new one, here's the bill (didn't complain on this one, they did nice work), half the retaining clips/bolts missing etc.
