Confirmed registrations will be posted here: http://spda-online.ca/showthread.php...321#post476321

GREAT pricing for a full day event, you'll get LOTS of mileage in. At their last event I put over 150km's on my car, just on the track. For comparison, there is an event the day before on the DDT that is over $300.

No experience needed, just a mechanically solid car, a good attitude and a helmet.

Rain or shine?

Pardon my ignorance but is this the small track?

Yes, and yes.

If there is lightning in the area no one will be on the track, but otherwise it's game on!

It is the "small" track, but it's not so small anymore. Top speed in a non FI FRS/BRZ will be in the 130-140km/h range with the kink in the long straight (I brush the limiter in 3rd in at least three places per lap).

That's great because given the stock power of our cars, I believe the "small" track is more appropriate.

Where's a good place to get a helmet in the GTA?

You'll need a 2005 or 2010 SA or M helmet

I got mine at Royal Distributing, but only got a M helmet because I'm a cheap ass

Like drewbot I just have an M2010 rated helmet. You only really need SA if you'll be in a car with a roll cage.

Any motorcycle shop will do

100% agreed. I've driven the big track (not in my FRS), and found that with a lower hp car it's almost too long of a track.

I got mine at JRP, it was about $300 + taxes for an SA2010 (HJC AR10 II).

This! I bought an SA helmet just so my options are open (including rides in caged cars), but you can get an M helmet MUCH cheaper than SA. Mostly because motorcycle shops sell a lot more M helmets than specialty shops sell SA helmets.

Thanks - I was hoping I wouldn't have to spend another $400 just for a helmet :)

@wparsons @brzr

How did bone stock twins hold up in the newbie's group? I'm assuming the sessions were short enough that there brake fade and fluid boiling wasn't going on? (Maybe by the afternoon with people getting faster, it could be?)

Just want to plan in advance if I need to be putting in RBF600 for the day, and also to make it back to Oakville safely the same night

wparsons 08-10-2014 11:54 PM

All depends on how good of a driver you are on the track. On the old DDT, I could only get a few laps in without serious pad fade on the stock pads but sticky tires.

Typically you'll get pad fade before you boil the fluid with stock brake parts.

If you're running the stock tires, it won't be as bad, but if you're running stickier tires you'll want better pads/fluid to be safe.

All that said, if it's your first time ever on a track you might not have any issues even with all stock brake parts.

drewbot 08-11-2014 12:37 AM

Yeah, that's why I was asking about bone stock twins

I've never driven THIS car on a road course (mostly karts actually), only a rackety MX-5 of days past

All in all, should be fun to wear out these Primacy's and OE pads

7thgear 08-11-2014 04:01 PM

so long as you drive within your car's lowered limits

understand that your tires and brakes won't hold out for too long and regularly pull off for everything too cool and you shouldn't have problems.

when I first got the car I stayed out at MIR for 8 laps before realizing that I've probably should have pitted a lap or two before... :)

Peschi 08-11-2014 04:19 PM

I sent my money yesterday and do not see my name (or anyone else's) where the confirmed names are to be posted.
Should I expect some sort of confirmation?

Give it a bit of time, it is a mere human being doing the entry

Last time with SPDA it took a couple days for them to post everything

Also, they will send emails through whatever email you used for PayPal (or that's what they did last time, at least)

wparsons 08-11-2014 04:52 PM

Yep, the registration process is manual so it'll take a couple days.

Stock tires and brakes *should* be fine on the DDT, especially if you're running at beginner group speeds. The sessions are 15 minutes, so not too long.

If you do need to pull off, either stay on the track at cool down speeds (and stay off the brakes as much as possible), or pull right off and run circles around the skidpad area to keep air moving. Pulling off and stopping with hot brakes can make things much worse.

Peschi 08-11-2014 05:04 PM

Thanks!
This is will be a first time track event for myself, will this be a point to pass and will they have cones for the apexes?

FRS-86 08-11-2014 06:23 PM

Hi guys, this will be my first time track event also. Any of you have their car insured for the track day? I found this website http://www.trackdayinsurance.ca but they are kind of expensive. Minimum is $240 per day for $30,000 car market value.

been doing this since 2005 and for me it has always been one of things I just don't think about...

I want to say that if you're smart you have nothing to worry about, but I've seen very eager novices overshoot their abilities very quickly...

it's entirely a personal choice

Turn in, apex and track out points will all be marked with cones. There will also be cones to mark passing zones (if all goes to plan, these will be taller and bright green to avoid confusion). Other than cone colour, it should look very similar to the cones in the video I posted earlier in the thread.

Passing is strictly by point or signal, but details will be covered in the drivers meeting as well.

*edit* - First 25 spots are gone, price is now $180.

n0thing 08-12-2014 12:00 PM

Are beginners entitled to an instructor riding shotgun?

Total beginners need an instructor, at least for the first couple sessions. I believe they're aiming for a max of 15 requiring instruction, but I could be a bit off on the count.

For sure! My car is asphalt with red tails and bronze RPF1's (although, they'll look pretty black if I didn't wash it the day before, or have been on the track already :D )

l8apexr 08-12-2014 11:32 PM

How do you get categorized?

daiheadjai 08-12-2014 11:58 PM

Would there be helmets available for rent there?

Honour system, backed by listing your experience. If someone claims to be advanced with only one track day, they'll probably get adjusted. I'm sure if they notice someone is way out of place in a run group (faster, or slower) they'll make an adjustment at the track as well.

Not positive, but IIRC they did have helmets available last time. I'll find out for sure.

l8apexr 08-13-2014 10:53 AM

ok. So its ok to ask to get categorized to a lower group even if you are experienced. Any other way to pay other then pay pal?

I don't think they would argue, as long as you're not being aggressive to other drivers in the run group (not suggesting you would).

Not sure about paying other than paypal, I'll find out though!

wparsons 08-13-2014 11:48 AM

Payment can also be made via EMT to the same email address (treasurer3....), still waiting on an answer to helmets.
