Update:
- Install took less than 20mins - You can feel a slight increase in torque, and the sound makes it feel 70kw faster, lol. Its not too loud, and the grumble at low RPM's is addictive. - Best R6k I spent in my life. Pure JOY!!!! - Thank you Subaru Centurion (Shamai - Parts Manager) and Toyota ####**### (Service Manager, and Trevor for the install) - You guys rock!!!! World class service delivery! Here are some pics of the completed install: (Note the old Standard GT86 exhaust has Subaru stamps on it, yet Toyota SA moan about installing a Subaru BRZ exhaust). I will post a video, when I have time to edit it and upload it to Youtube! |
Nice, congrats!!!!
|
Tried making a video, might have to use ear phones when watching to hear more precise sound quality.

Woohoo congrats
|
Lol I called DE graaf exhaust to see if I could get it cheaper directly from them, as the system is made locally in SA. But Subaru South Africa tied them up in a supply agreement, so you can only get it from Subaru lol.

nice write up
congrats! I So want to fit one!!! |

BRZ exhaust - R5300
Fitment - R500 K&N DIF - R810 Petrol to work(for the week) - R500 Parking in the basement and doing this..... Priceless :bonk::thumbsup: Smiles for days!:party0030: [ame="http://youtu.be/S4lYi0pFlbU"]http://youtu.be/S4lYi0pFlbU[/ame] |
Couldn't agree more ....had mine fitted last week. I'm in CT and Shamai from Subaru Centurion ordered me one (when dealers in CT said they can't get it) and had it couriered to CT at no cost....that's service !
Absolutely love it. Fantastic sound ....no drone at cruising speed. Money we'll spent! |
Nice! Glad you enjoying it, did you fit on the BC coilovers as well? If so please post a pic, your car must be looking wicked :D

Mine is on order (Subaru PE) Can't wait

Update on exhaust - (Eliminate Rattle)
Experienced a rattle at low rpm's and on uneven roads when taking off. Realised that the exhaust touched the rear axle. Took it back to Toyota ###**### last week, and they adjusted the exhaust hangers to move the exhaust slighlty away from the rear axle. No more rattle. Heres a video that shows the rattle when taking off: GT86 Brz exhaust drive by: [ame="http://youtu.be/OINphFBZShc"]http://youtu.be/OINphFBZShc[/ame] |
Got my exhaust fitted last Tueday. Very Happy, even got a free fitment from Subaru PE, but I think I,ve got the same rattle will have a look at the exhaust hangers.

Silly question. What size bore is the 86 OEM as compared to the BRZ?
|
86 vs 100mm I think.
|
BRZ vs OEM Xhost dimensions.
Just did some measuring with my vernier whilst in the midst of 'load shedding'.
The BRZ pipe is approx. 63 mm, OEM 54 mm. The mighty horns coming out of the BRZ rear muffler = 74 mm each. OEM = 54 mm again. The OEM pipe is a mass of bends and crimps. The BRZ is just so much straighter! Love the torquey rumble of the BRZ Xhorst.:party0030::happyanim: |
Hi All,
I just got a call from Subaru Centurion to say my De Graaf exhaust has arrived, and I can come in to get it fitted :) What have you guys done with the OE exhaust that you took off. Is it worth anything, and is there a second hand market for them ? Cheers. |
Great!!
No, there is no market for it. Mine is in my garage's roof... |
Cool, thanks.
Guess I will have to find an equally out of the way place to store mine. |
Kept mine in my garage. The cat might be worth something for its platinum. Apparently the OEM tips are worth a bit. Some American 86s aren't fitted with the tips. So if your prepared to eBay..
|
Thanks Ayrton. I'm only going on Monday to have it fitted, so will decide what to do once done.
|
Apparently the tips are quite readily available from Subaru in SA - if they still have any left. Toyota quoted me R750 each when I asked...:confused0068:

Anyways, it's happening Monday, and it's going to be awesome :D. It's just a good excuse to have it done. If insurance pays for it the deal will only be sweeter. I don't see why they wouldn't, though, as it's a) cheaper than Toyota, b) an official part for the same car approved by Subaru SA. DAT SOUND. Can't wait :D |
I guess that will rely on the panel beater / assessor / insurance company,...etc
The more parties involved the more grey lines there are :) Smart thinking ! @LostSalad - I hope you Find out soon and your efforts bear fruit (salad) ;-) Even if they don't end up pay for it, that R5k is money well spent! Cheers |

I'll post back here when it's all done :D |
Good luck! :w00t:

So the install went without a hitch and I've been loving it! The first time I heard a BRZ in our work basement I got a twinge of jealousy, because it literally drones to the point that it's difficult to talk xD. There's this awesome sweet spot at low revs where it just sounds so deep.
I literally grinned and giggled like a schoolgirl all the way home. It's like re-discovering the car again :D |
Best mod thus far! :bonk:
Hooliganism everyday! Wait for winter cold-start! Thing I love is the fact that all the action happens in the mid rpm vs. top end. Every throttle blip is an occasion! :respekt: Quote:

I spent the day at Zwartkops and had some huge engine noise thrown in my face for a few hours. But man, I'd hate to sound that loud every day - this is a sweet spot :P |

EDIT - I'm bad, your car is your profile photo. Were you at the skidpan or the track? |
Lol ok, grey then. But to be fair, when I saw your car it looked brown.
Skidpan always makes it soooo dirty! |
So I contacted the local Subie Dealer about the DeGraaf units, and this is what I was told:
"Subaru SA have confirmed the make of the system as a De Graaf and that it fits the 86, however, they advise that to fit it, it will invalidate the warranty of the vehicle as it is for the BRZ only. There are no units available from Subaru and should you require a unit, it needs to be specially manufactured for you by De Graaf. Cost is N$ 6,440.00 however, Subaru cannot get one for you as De Graaf will only manufacture for orders of 5 or more." I suppose I'll have to get it done next time I happen to be in SA then, or DIY it (but shipping will RUIN that price). |
Ouch, that really sucks.

I love the bit about "is made for a subaru" - the guy has clearly never taken note of the BRZ/86 twins (since there are none here). They went a bit further, suggesting that the delivery time would be 3-4 weeks, which made me wonder if they think I'd take 5.... silly people. :bonk: |

This is getting so far off topic (sorry), but someone suggested I do a power wash. It sounds... serious. Not sure what a high pressure hose does to paint, especially if there's hard dirt clinging to it. Any recommendations? I don't even want to bother polishing because you can see how the stuff still sits on the paint :/ Quote:
