M3 Style Carbon Fiber Roof Lava FR-S

We got our test model Lava yesterday and while looking at it, it looked like it needed something to break the color. Custom Graphics from San Diego which is one of our vendors did it less than 2hrs by hand and looks like it should come that way from the factory.

Lonewolf 05-29-2012 08:12 PM

Are you guys getting some darker wheels as well?

ESBjiujitsu 05-29-2012 08:19 PM

considered doing this as well but im hoping by the time i get an frs there is a full carbon fiber roof option. looks great!

denkigrve 05-29-2012 08:36 PM

Nice, looks almost legit. Not my style personally. I also don't like the colored emblems, but this is what Scion has been all about as a brand. Customization. So I'm glad to see you guys living the Scion life with your demo car, and showing off just some simple things owners can do. Hopefully this will lead to some more sales to keep this vehicle alive and growing.

eifer 05-29-2012 10:05 PM

lol I'll be in soon to test drive it

DaKytchen 05-29-2012 10:10 PM

Looks hella Good .. i love it...

rcm47 05-29-2012 11:30 PM

I don't think a "carbon" roof looks good with that color.

DuMa 05-30-2012 12:15 AM

i think you should only do this with a black car or any car with black housing headlights

i think it looks better in lighter color like the whiteout cause it stands out more, it gives it a better contrast. the E92 M3 look better in white or light grey vs. the black i think because of the contrast in color.

i think they did a great job considering this was their first FR-S. looking at the fit and finish when things died down a bit with all our sold orders and wait listers coming in, it looks OEM. :D

with our test model were looking to get the GT spoiler, fog lights and led headlights from our vendor. we're up in the air about the trd springs and a staggered wheel and tire set up.

chulooz 05-30-2012 12:55 AM

mmm, carbon wraps arent cool in my book. Enjoy it if you like it I suppose.

You do not want a full carbon roof. The work to install it is way too much work.
Pulling glass, drilling spot welds and so on.

Just do a wrap. Its funny as us with real carbon roofs will say wrap is smarter and better. But the guys that have no plans to do anything will call a roof wrap rice.

ESBjiujitsu 05-30-2012 08:10 AM

great info thanks.... i guess i was making a big assumption when I saw that the brz sti "might" have a cf roof that the process would be much easier. My ignorance :bonk: Thank you for the information!!!!

with a botched install yes, but if done correctly even people with a real CF roof won't know the difference until they knock on it. which actually happened today with one of our sold orders who has a competition package M3. he thought you could order an FR-S with it and knocked on the roof 3 to 4 times just to make sure it wasn't real.

all we did was show what it could look like if toyota decided to come out with an even sparser model GT/FRS. maybe they could even use the CF loom for the LFA.:D i think it looks better and it would look great on the firestorm or whiteout.

Hmm, tape on the roof of my car. I don't think so. That is pretty much the definition of rice isn't it? The look of a performance upgrade without the performance. San Francisco treat.

I can spot it a mile away. But I do like a dealer that is putting out an effort! Good Job !

And for those that want to know the work to install? I can do a quick write up on it.

Depends on where you live. People wrap their cars all the time. And to be honest. I like the idea if you live in an area where rock chips are common. Subaru paint sucks! You will learn that soon enough!

Cf hood is nice & all... but I kinda want alumium :)

No idea what that is but my BRZ already has an aluminum hood which is damn light. :bonk:

Moshpit37 05-30-2012 08:27 PM

I like the look of the roof, but I'm not digging the stuff on the side or the rear. I'm hoping to actually just do a carbon hood on my car (yes, I know the hood is already aluminum). Nice to see some customization though. Also, this reinforces my color choice. I was thinking about the Hot Lava but it's definitely Argento all the way for me. The orange is cool but I prefer the classic look of the silver.

Lol I was rushing typing w my phone lol I meant to write aluminum roof

EmilGH 05-30-2012 09:41 PM

I like the way the dark roof carries through the front and rear glass. It works well visually.

reni 05-30-2012 10:22 PM

That will go real nice with one of those fake plastic blowers on top of the hood. Because, you know, a real supercharger is like expensive and stuff. Also some fake exhaust tips. At least 10 of them. And don't forget the huge stickers of Asian characters. The ones that say "Honda" are good enough, since they are probably the cheapest and it's not like anyone can read that shit anyway.

ahausheer 05-30-2012 10:47 PM

^ how bout keeping it positive.

chulooz 05-31-2012 12:44 AM

There really isnt a need for positive enforcement on race inspired cosmetic enhancements on a drivers car. No knocking necessary, anyone who has spent time around carbon can pickup on it immediately. If it was black I would agree that it can look cool, it but it is FAKE carbon fiber print it looks RICE.

86design 05-31-2012 12:55 AM

looks good man....;)

quik1987 05-31-2012 01:18 AM

too much going on, just the roof would have been nice.

its a "test model", its meant to be seen visually when its being "tested". just like when you see ads on MTA buses or sprinter vans.

customers who buy the FRS from us doesn't have too worry if someone romped on their car unlike other dealers because we've always had a dedicated test model. the reason for it was to break the color and the faux CF did a great job doing it.

have you seen a GT/FRS/BRZ with a roof like it? no. this was an exercise of what it could look like. i highly doubt they would come out with GT/FRS with a real CF roof, if anything they'll release a model with an aluminum roof down the line.

MarkRacerX 05-31-2012 03:22 PM

Right on, cool to see it done - Nice job !!!!

SioXie101 05-31-2012 03:34 PM

CF vinyl on the roof install looks neat but once you do this with your car pls match the rims......... :brokenheart:

You are right, I havent seen anything like that yet. But I have seen a BRZ STI concept with a real CF top, it looked great.

Godzilla35 05-31-2012 07:28 PM

lol... you guys... give the guy a break. He's doing this with the TESTER car for his dealership. At least he's not saying it's real CF and charging some poor sucker like $200 hahah... unless you guys are ;P (jk I know you're not).

P.s., it's vinyl... completely removable, and if it's used as a paint protectant, I don't consider it rice, because it's functional

Yes, Orido has em on his V86. A real CF roof.

ok... maybe i should've been more clear. have you seen a stock non concept or show car or v8 hybrid frs/gt/brz with carbon fiber style roof.

some of you take this way too seriously, not real, rice, F&F looking. who cares... its an exercise of what could be done, just like when we install the jdm headlights on our test model or do a staggered wheel and tire set-up.
