Mom and FRS
I recently paid deposit on a 2014 FRS that I have secured for my university years. I live in Vancouver, BC and my parents are abroad but my mom is visiting to help me settle in for a month. I've bought myself a car but want to avoid the crazy car rent prices here so I'm hoping to let my mom take the car around for the month. I don't really know what I'm asking, but is it a car that a woman can drive without hassle? I don't want random guys taunting her or starting her down from their cars if its not a really feminine car. There was a post here about you guys getting lots of looks and compliments but I'd like to avoid that with my mom.
Many thanks. |
I think mamadukes in a FR-S would be badass!
more on topic: It's not a F/A-18E Superhornet, it's a Scion. You turn the key to start it, select the gear and step on the gas pedal to go. Brake pedal to stop. There's a dial in the center that tells you how fast you're going. Anyone can drive it. |
Worse that could happen is someone could say "nice car" or ask a question and she just has to say it's her son's car.
|
OP sounds sexist.
|
My wife (age 70) loves to drive my 6 spd FRS!
|
We need to see pics of your mom first
|
My mom drives my BRZ on occasion, when she isn't driving her charger rt with the Daytona package.
Don't be sexist, some women can drive better then some men. |
ive seen more chicks driving this car in my area than guys
|
My mum absolutely loves my 86, lol.
|
Haha make sure your mom doesn't get hooked to your car

Its a car... Who cares who drives what
|
Youre mom will look badass on it. Buy her a sunglasses.

Ignore these guys OP. Let me give you the straight facts. This car does NOT like ovaries. In general, female genitalia tend to run a bit warmer which warms up the cabin... which causes most people to turn on the A/C. However, the A/C will now be circulating inferior feminine heat which will bog down the patriarchy pulley. If you must let her drive it, only allow her a couple hours a week.
And you should absolutely be worried about men hooting and hollering at her. Because of the known risks women have when driving the 86, seeing one still doing it tells men, "hey, she's got a wild side." I totally get that you don't want your mom receiving compliments, hell, I just about grounded my mom because a friend of hers said her dress was nice. None of that nonsense here! I don't know man, it's a tricky situation. |
Must be nice having your parents paying for your frs.

I think every city has a few bozos that are going to get jealous when they see a nicer car, but at the same time I feel like there are more people that go out of the way to respect the car (give you a wider distance when following behind you, etc) than people who will harass you for having it. I think I get harassed more in my Carolla just because its a beater, and I tend to drive it a bit more aggressively than in my FR-S; generally, I tend to be a bit more relaxed driving around in the FR-S because it isn't worth rushing or darting around in to get from point A to point B a bit quicker if it means there is the potential to risk something happening to my car. I think your idea is a little silly, but nothing you should have to be concerned about. Also, the seat height, etc. shouldn't be a problem at all if there is any 'disadvantage' between the sexes to be concerned about with regards to driving the car. I'd be more concerned about making sure she learns the dimensions of the vehicle so the front lip of your car doesn't get scraped up getting forward-parked against a curb stop with 3 - 4 ft of clearance between your car and back end of the parking spot :p |
You have to realize that your mom is an adult, and has been dealing with annoying dudes talking to her since before you were born....hell it might even by why you were born.
She'll be fine. |
Best troll thread ever. OP, pics of said mom may be necessary.

Lol at the comments..... you guys don't seem to have this much fun so often, and in that regard, I humbly accept your gratitude for the animation that I have apparently provided for your lives.

+1 on pics of Mom.
|
My girlfriend drives my car more than I do. She says she gets more looks after she gets out of the car.
|
lmao she's already rented a C-Class for herself.
Guess the car is all mineeeee |

My mom loves driving my FR-S.
About it being feminine, the guys at work used to tease me about "borrowing my sister's car". I agree that it's a feminine car. |

Men are inherently sexist. It is in our nature. It all comes down to reproduction, and in that manner, a female is always under his male. |
I come off like such a troll right now. Stop tempting me guys, trying to settle down nicely in this forum with all my lovely car fanatics.
|
this isn't where i parked my car..

It all comes down to not being ignorant and not measuring people by their genitalia. Also, pronouns are really important. |
OP and CJ should have a love child.

Personally I do not find OP completely sexist. From what I understand he is going off of general facts and the way we, men, view women around the world.
It is well known that women are not the best drivers, they tend to drive slow and safe or fast and dumb. No, I am not talking about all women, Danica Patrick is an exception :p Then he also was probably thinking that she is not in her young age and so if she turns all the assists off by accident, she might screw up, even though it would be difficult. As to support why men are better drivers than women, studies are not really that good as there are considerably more men drivers than women. As well to answer concern, mother would do just fine in that car, but you said she got Class-C so no more concern. OP is not sexist, it's just the environment he has grown up made him seem that way. |

OT: Explain to me how I'm being sexist, then present to yourself the counter argument and see that I'm merely being realistic. Also, mate don't go around commenting on my English you dumb fool. |
Well this quickly became a pissing contest. Close thread.

In any case, when lesser minded people start to realize they don't have anything intelligent to say, they tend to resort to baseless accusations. sexism n.1. Discrimination based on gender, especially discrimination against women. 2. Attitudes, conditions, or behaviors that promote stereotyping of social roles based on gender. By believing that there are inherent and distinct driving capabilities in one gender or another, you are being sexist. I'm willing to wager that you're a bit of a chauvinist as well, but I'll let you look that word up on your own. http://www.iihs.org/iihs/topics/t/ge...tyfacts/gender "More men than women die each year in motor vehicle crashes." http://editorial.autos.msn.com/artic...umentid=788126 "The conclusion was that men break more traffic laws and drive more dangerously than women. Because they violate laws designed to make the roads safer, men cause more accidents and expensive damage." Seeing as how it's pretty clear you're not exactly up there on the IQ scale, let me dumb it down for you. Statistics, that's a fancy word for 'data used to form a represenative sample', suggests that men are far worse drivers than women. So your opening post should have read, "Is it okay for ME to drive this car?" And I'll critique your lackluster English all I want. "Also mate, don't go around commenting on my English, you dumb fool." (Got those commas in there for you.) |

There are many women and girls driving FRS. I see them all the time. Young woman, Asian middle aged woman, grandma, I've seen them already.
When I was at dealership they told me this car was very popular for women. So your mom should be fine in it unless she doing windows down revving the car at traffic light. Now the real question is you're a uni student why you need mom's help to "settle in"? Only secondary students do that. PS don't be homophobic. They don't bite. |
