Hit and Run

3 Attachment(s)
My baby was the victim of a hit and run last Saturday night/ Sunday morning while parked at my condo complex. People have no damn respect! The crash bar punctured the bumper cover and every body shop I've been to recommends a new bumper and respray ~ $850 worth of damage that I have to pay out of pocket! Money I would much rather spend on modifications.I'm extremely OCD and want the results to be perfect. I've narrowed it down to couple of shops in the area that I think will do the best work. I can't stand seeing her like this!😔😡😢😫 Attachment 86855Attachment 86856Attachment 86857

Oh wow. That sux man. I'm so sorry...I feel your pain! :(

You can file an insurance claim, it would likely go under collision though so it depends on your deductible. But then considering $500 deductible most people have + any potential rate increase you may get as a result it might not be worth going through insurance.

And a little off topic but anyone who has a comprehensive deductible over $100 you should call your insurer and get a quote @ $100 or less. It's usually $10-$20 or so more per year and well worth it to cover windshield replacement and vandalism etc. Most people go with the same for both which is bad since collision is expensive while comp is cheap.

Fucking assholes. Those idiots have some bad karma coming there way. It's unfortunate you won't be able to see exactly what it is. Seen any damaged vehicles in your condo parking lot since?

Kotu100 08-02-2014 10:48 AM

$850 seems pretty low for a replace and repaint.

I was able to have my bumper replaced and repainted for $750. Have the shop match the price of the bumper from Subarupartsonline. It's like $250 if I remember and originally the shop was wanting to charge over $350 for it! I had the same thing happen to me at work and had to pay out of pocket for it! Hope you get your baby fixed up right and quick!

I'm a true believer in Karma as well! Unfortunately no paint transfer, just a dent and a bunch of little scratches with the crash bar poking through. I've been looking and haven't seen any other damaged vehicles. The majority of people at my condo have very nice cars and have been very respectful to this point (no door dings). I have a feeling it may have been someone visiting a fellow resident. I've put up flyers in each entrance with a picture asking if anyone knows anything. No one has come forth yet.:(

Go down to harbor freight if you have one and grab a 20 dollar heat gun. Heat the snot out of it, (not to much to cause burning or paint damage) and you'll be amazed how much comes back into shape. You may need to "push" it out a little from behind. Perhaps remove the bezel first... It may hold you over until you get it repaired/replaced..

Here's a good example... [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRGIS-lFAZM"]Plastic Bumper Dent Repair With Heat Gun - YouTube[/ame]

Yeah, it sucks. I think everyone should invest in a dashcam. My car was parked and was involved in a hit and run, but I had a video of the incident.

Well, you have done the right thing re pictures. Keep your eyes peeled. Looks a like a new bumper and spray is your best bet. It will be brand new again.

stugray 08-03-2014 01:10 PM

While you are doing it consider replacing with a FRS bumper

charged86 08-03-2014 01:28 PM

sucks. i wonder if they looked back at it and didnt see anything. Someone who is car stupid may not have picked it up. either way sorry to OP :(

I thought about doing that and keeping the Subaru Badge to throw people off, haha but I really do love the looks of the BRZ bumper. I want to get the STi Kit for it eventually.

What camera do you have? I was thinking of getting a Mini 0803 for ease of installation, but it only records when the car is on. I'd prefer not to have to splice any wires.

By the time he got the FR-S bumper, fog light bezels, removed/retrofited the DRL lights and painted everything that $850 he was complaining about will seem cheap. :bonk:

One of the reasons I chose the BRZ over the FRS was the front bumper design. You'd be complaining about paying the $850 too if your baby was the victim of a hit and run. It's bad enough it got hit. It's a double suck that I currently have to cover the repair.

I don't think he's making fun of you or w/e about that, it's the fact that an FRS conversion would probably cost twice as much where it would make $850 feel cheap.

Kids and their "my bumper is cooler than yours" argument... Grow the hell up.

zc06_kisstherain 08-04-2014 02:25 PM

sorry to hear and see the damaged. actually it doesnt look bad comparing to mine i hit my own BBQ grill while parking after 2 weeks of having my BRZ! i was going to get it repainted but you would get more damaged later. just spend your money on something else and replace bumper later when that time comes.

Do you have uninsured motorist coverage? It will cover hit and runs. The deductible for uninsured is only $250.

Uninsured deductible in NJ is $500 but that's if you are able to prove the at-fault person had no insurance, which you cannot do for hit and run. This is why it falls onto collision coverage.

MJones_RB 08-04-2014 04:53 PM

Had this happen to my old GS-R all the time. Basically, people don't want to deal with the drama or insurance headache so they just take off. Every parking lot, every street-side parking, it's a gamble. I was parked outside a donut shop once, staring at my car, when an older lady in a Camry pulled up to a parking space directly in front of my car and BAM hit it directly. It took me a few seconds to realize what really happened. I ran out there and confronted her. "It's not that bad, just a few scratches." she nervously quoted. I kind of smirked and retorted, "we'll see." Took down her info, got a quote from a body shop for bumper repair/repaint. $1600 later she wasn't so flippant. Maybe next time she'll pay more attention.

Wow. That suck. Uninsured in Georgia works very differently.

I actually have a FineVu CR-500HD, and had an auto shop hook up the dashcam to my car's battery so that I could use parking mode. It's a decent dashcam, but it was very expensive at the time when I bought it. There's tons of opinions at dashcamtalk.com.

There are also 2-channel dashcams, that have a front and rear camera, such as Blackvue's DR-550 and DR-650. I've thought about getting the DR-650. They're also coming out with dashcams that have huge screens, but I'd rather my dashcam be discrete and not noticeable.

just get another blackbox for rear.
2channel blackbox usually have good one at front but poor quality on back.
i am using Blackvue DR500 at front and running blackvue 350 at rear.
