Do Impreza guys hate us?
I get the sense that Impreza/Subaru guys don't really like us.
It seems as though whenever I wave to somebody in a WRX/STI I never get a wave back. Are we the gorgeous step-sister that everybody else is jealous of? |
Dude I was thinking that I was fucking paranoid!
|
I had a bugeye and I think of my old days so I wave at the other wrx/sti drivers and surely, nothing...
I do think it`s a different demographic for sure. I used to be quite obsessed with torque numbers :) |
I live in a small area. There's a decent concentration of Subies though. Never get get waves.
Even when I venture to Ottawa or Montreal I don't seem to get waves back. Hell, FRS' don't even wave to me lol |
i give the occasional deuces to wrx's.. i'd say it's like a 50% return rate

I think they're offended that they're no longer the sporty Subaru, they're the heavy Subaru. They're still athletic, but they feel like the stocky sister that plays field hockey and softball, not the graceful sister that studies ballet. |
Most of the guys I wave to, wave back. To be very honest with you, I get more love from WRX and STi guys over FR-S/BRZ drivers.
|
I get the occasional deuces/thumbs up from STi's. Not so much from WRX's... maybe they're insecure...
|
I was a WRX guy, I remember that I used to have difficulty telling the twins apart so I would miss half the opportunities to wave because I wasn't sure it was a BRZ. Why I was biased to one over the other. I guess it was just a Subaru thing in my head. Silly in retrospect.

Every time I finally notice another twin with enough time to wave. It's a woman driving and I get a confused look back. Only one WRX has ever waved to me.

I've gotten a wave once, all the others did obnoxious driving in traffic once they noticed me.
|
Yeah I hate you. I also must hate myself.
|
some of my customers are from SCIC impreza club. when i told them i am getting a BRZ, they all tried hard to convince me to get new wrx instead. i think some hardcore subaru fans believe all subaru should be all wheel drive.

I don't get it. I didn't buy an Impreza. Why would I expect them to act like we're in a club together?
Do Impreza guys wave at lesbians in Foresters? |
Impreza L owners adore us.
Impreza RS owners like us. Impreza WRX owners tolerate us. Impreza WRX STI owners look down on us. |

Anything lowered beyond the outline of the tire + 1cm/2cm looks retarded to me |

You're the "gorgeous" step-sister if the step sister is fat and slow :bonk: |

LOL. Thin skin in this thread. Been driving, owning, building Subies since 2001.
Its a Subaru, not a Corvette. Most Subaru owners dont wave to each other or acknowledge the other car at all. If they are a forum member, they might look for the exact same model. WRX/WRX, LGT/LGT, STi/STi. But waving to other Subaru owners is not what makes a Subaru a Subaru. Take no offense. None is meant. But there is nothing more to it. If you get a head nod, you got all you can expect. |
Owned a twin before my Sti...
Loved having a twin and every time I see one on the road I'm jealous about how sexy they look compared to the '15 sti. However, I rarely wave because WRX/BRZ/FRS aren't exactly "rare" cars. |
I wave at other twins whenever I see one, which is rare here, and pretty much never get one back. WRXs are everywhere and they dont ever wave back to me either....maybe it's just me?
|
I've received two waves from WRX drivers with ownership of the car since May. On both occasions, there just simply wasn't enough reaction time on my end for my wave to actually count.
I think this could be a huge factor, just not enough time. Drivers might be just paying attention to the road. |
You can't help what other people do or don't do
You can only be responsible for what you do Give the deuce unconditionally |
Maybe I should specify.
I don't wave to grandma in her Tribeca. When I see a lowered car on aftermarket wheels, I'll give a wave. @Zozr WRX/STI are fat, and not that fast For the record I'm not really a "Subaru guy". I Just happen to have a Subie. Whenever I'm in my Civic wagon every single person I encounter in a modified EF will give a wave back. Maybe I'm just too nice since I'm Canadian |
For some reason people in WRX's wave at me. Oddly enough,
the only person that tried to race me was some douche in a wrx. |

You can think your car is pretty all day... in the end, it's just another car to another person. The sooner you get over this, the more you'll enjoy your drive every day. It's like bad traffic... it happens. Nothing you can do about it. You can hate all you want, in the end how you come out of a traffic jam is very much your own choice. -alex |

My question to you is why would you assume that I care what anybody thinks about my car, or me? It's just an observations I've made. And are you saying our cars aren't pretty? |

This is what I experience. At least in my area it seems most frs drivers are young and act stuck up, BRZ drivers are older and I might get a wave if they notice me, but WRX drivers notice the WRB and know it's a Subaru and I usually get a honk or wave. |
I get waves and thumbs up from tons of WRX's and STi's. Even foresters and legacy's. Then again, I know most of the people that are "in the scene" in my area.
|
why do you care if others wave back? you wouldn't wave to me if i was a stranger in a park would you? keep waving one day and the you meet the wrong gang, dead.

I noticed the WRX drivers are younger and generally dislike the BRZ for low power and all that. The STI drivers I've noticed seem to maybe have a better appreciation of "driving" and will often wave in acknowledgement of another driving enthusiast. Strangely enough, in the short amount of time it's been available, I've still received more waves from 2015 WRX drivers than all other WRX drivers. Who knows though? I've gotten lots of waves from Mustang owners so all current data is null and void. We will investigate further. |

I saw a sweet street rod last weekend and gave the guy a thumbs up, got a wave back too. I don't think it depends on the car, BUT the more expensive the car gets, the less likely you will get a wave back. I've also been late on waving back to a lot of other owners. So just because someone doesn't wave back, doesn't mean they are giving you the cold shoulder. |

The waving thing is about shared experience. When I had my Triumph, other British car drivers would wave at me, and I would wave at them. Why? Because we shared an experience that other people didn't really know about.
We knew we could pull over to the side of the road and immediately strike up a conversation about all the times our cars had broken down, what our last repair was or what strange things we had had to do to keep the thing from falling apart long enough to get it home. Sometimes we pulled over to the side of the road because another British car had broken down and was being repaired right there on the shoulder. We could talk about weird carburetor rebuilds (always with parts left over--ALWAYS), where the body was most likely to rust and when we had to pull the drain plugs out of the trunk to let the water drain out after the seals failed. We could trade tips on where to get parts and laugh about the parts we had had to order from England. In some instances the wave was a respectful acknowledgment of the other driver even having the damned thing on the road at all. Owners of the twins have a similar shared experience, thankfully without the same level of unexpected failures. Not too long ago I bought a set of rims from another member here, and when I went to pick them up we talked about the cars for over an hour. You can compare notes on mods, plans for mods, weird quirks of the car (crickets!), weird reactions to the car, etc. I'll wave at another twin (if my spirited driving leaves a hand free) because I know that guy or girl shares all the secrets and irritations of owning this car. When you see me driving this car, you know a little something about me, and vice versa. Corvette owners have that shared experience. Harley owners have that shared experience. Jeep Cherokee owners have it. Any fairly unique thing that has its own quirks is going to develop such a community. Impreza owners may have that shared experience, but I don't know because I've never owned one and have never had any interest in owning one. What I do know is that I don't share their experience, and they don't share mine. I can talk with the owner of a twin for over an hour, but I have no idea what I would talk with a WRX owner about. We're not in the same community. I have no more in common with an Impreza owner than I do with someone who drives a Volkswagen. Waving at them would make me feel like a doofus, like that goofy kid in the back window of the school bus waving at all the cars like a moron while the other kids try to find somewhere else to sit. |
PS-if I saw a tastefully modded twin I might give the driver a nod. Lately I've seen a lot of completely stock ones. Talked with a guy with one at a Jerk place the other day and it was leased. That explains a lot of them, I bet.
Also, I see ones around that are total Rice-A-Roni. The other night there was one hanging out at the local parking lot car summer meeting hangout. I hated the wayy too dark tinted taillights. Looks cheap and poorly thought out. Immediately that's rice to me. No nod. Sad buts that's my reaction. |
My car is leased.
Does that make me less of an enthusiast or something? 0.9% interest makes a lot more sense than 5.9% |
