Looks like the FR-S (#08) is being driven by Tony Rivera from Brass Monkey Racing. The commentators are joking it looks like he drove it off the showroom onto the track. No racing livery or anything like that, just a handful of sponsor stickers.
|
4th place finish in its first ever race!
|
Yep not bad all things considered!
|
Caught a few shots of the mostly white FRS...finished 4th in TC...not bad
Next race is tomorrow! Saturday, Aug 2 GT/GTA/GTS Race 1 - 11:45am TC/TCA/TCB Race 2 - 4:15pm Brass Monkey has a FB page for those who want to congratulate (hint: get more info from) them :) https://www.facebook.com/pages/Brass...g/162862865552 |
They didn't include him in on the on screen results?
Why the hate? |

That Compass 360 sponsored Honda Civic Si and those SkullCandy Altimas have years of Continental Tire ST and Pirelli World Challenge TC experience. For Tony Rivera to finish just off the podium in that race was a huge accomplishment. Scion USA and TRD need to take notice.
His car looked like it made a wrong turn in the parking lot and ended up on the track. I cannot wait to see it once they get some race livery on it. |

Yet another serious race car running a Delicious Tune. Great job on finishing 4th in his debut race and only 1.2 seconds off the fastest lap time. WC PDF Results Tony Rivera's Scion FRS is currently running Delicious Tuning's Stage 2 NA Tune. Not too bad for an OTS tune.
Cheers, William Knose Delicious Tuning |

http://www.world-challenge.com/image...DO20047MKS.jpg I am really happy to see a team running the FR-S in a top tier pro series at last. I checked the FB page but it has not been updated since 2012 when they were running a BMW in Continental. Maybe with this result we will start to see updates and some information about the team and car. |
The second race for the TC class BrassMonkey Racing Scion FR-S will be streamed live online in two hours from now.

Please correct if I'm wrong but could it be Toyota/Subaru dump a lot of money in formula drift because the car has a natural affinity for it and gets the attention of target buyers therefore not a lot of dollars spent on research and development? Perhaps Toyota/Subaru have been resistant to a road racing series because they might be pigeonholed finally into having to homologate more motor for these cars to be consistently competitive and it's QUITE clear that's not a priority as of yet. "Best drift" is subjective, consistently winning races is not...and an expensive endeavor. PLEASE chime in how these series work and if I'm off base. IDK. I want this car competing and competitive in road racing as it should be! |
I think it's just a Japan thing actually. You can put a small drift track in half the real estate a road course takes. It's huge there and they have an affinity for it. I don't mind it but it gets pretty boring to watch after a while.
The Aussie v8 series, grand sport, touring, ST series are coming on strong in North America, Europe, Australia because it's economically viable and more exciting. Might even give NASCAR and F1 a run for their money in a few years. You can provide a lot more entertainment if the cars don't cost $500,000 each or more. I like the Grand sport and ST class Continental series because they're realistic obtainable cars. I mean it's a little slower, but all the racing skill is still there. :) I think it'll gain some ground. I think it's pretty cool to watch a car that you actually own in a racing series. And, I don't think it'll take the manufactures long to figure it out. That's how NASCAR started after all. |
I heard that the Brass Monkey FRS is competing again this year with Tony Rivera as driver.
Does anyone have any details/confirmation of this? |

*Michele - When is your next race for the new season? I found Tony's entry on page 9 for next weekend here: http://www.world-challenge.com/image...ry-List-v5.pdf |
Yep, I posted in another thread. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...9&postcount=40 He will be running the FR-S in the season opener at COTA next weekend. There will be three races. Two on Saturday and one on Sunday. You can watch them live on:http://www.world-challengetv.com/ or tape delayed on CBS sports later in March.
|
We were scheduled with USTCC for COTA the weekend after PWC but got cancelled due to low car count. So now our next race is that same weekend with the SCCA Major Tour at chuckwalla raceway
