Potential 4-Door Scion FR-S, Thoughts?

2 Attachment(s)
So guys, I heard a rumor of a 4-door Scion FR-S sedan. Now, I'm definitely sitting in the "I'll believe it when i see it" boat, but the concept is still pretty interested.

Again, This is so far pretty much just a rumor and I'm not trying to trick anyone here. I just wanted to see what you guys thought about this idea.

It is said that Toyota is really trying to push this new idea for a sedan FR-S, but it's Subaru that is dragging it's heels, explicitly stating that they have no interest. And without Subaru's cooperation, there is very little chance that this could come to fruition.

This new design will mean shorter front doors, and considerably more room for the rear two seats. The car will obviously be slightly longer, which will be approximately an extra 20 inches. It will incorporate a B-pillar for all four doors, so no more cool framleess windows Just as well the new design includes the same turbo 2.0 liter engine as the Subaru Legacy, which is approximately another 100 horsepower than the current FR-S specs.

My opinion: I like it. I probably won't get it. But I like it. Expanding the reach of the marvelous GT86  to people who want more power, need larger back seats, and/or prefer the potential insurance reductions is a wonderful idea in my opinion.

I just didn't see a post around here about it, and I really would like to see people's thoughts on this. So please leave your comments or thoughts. And remember that this is just a rumor so far, and I don't want to make anyone think otherwise.

I look forward to reading what you guys say!

I realize that most people already know bout this, but it is the first I've heard about it and I've seen no other posts on this forum.

I didn't post it to so much inform people, as much as to get an idea about what people think about it.

Toyota is currently working on a Scion FRS mini van. It will fit 5 comfortably and is meant to replace the Toyota Matrix. I heard this from my Cousin's boyfriend's mechanic who works in the mechanic shop that specializes in BMW's that is next to the Toyota dealership. You heard it here first.

That looks just like the twins! Even with 4 doors, the similarities are uncanny.

Really? I just read that they threw that idea out the window and went with a FRS-UV. They said that it is going to be the most powerful and advance SUV in the world. Rumors say that they will be going with their latest flat 10 engine and keeping the sticky prius tires. I can't wait :happyanim:

As long as it isn't faster than the coupe. Also, I'd like it because then my dad would get one while I would keep my coupe

I hope this isn't serious but it strangely looks like an RX-8.

Meh, just do a 2+2 like the Z31 and Z32 300ZX's did...

Coupes to that turn into 4 doors can look odd sometimes.

Reminds me of a cobalt.

Fail. Sports cars are only 2 door vehicles.

DarkSunrise 07-25-2014 02:30 PM

I know looks are subjective, but that's pretty ugly IMO.

That said, the idea of a lightweight (sub-2900 lbs.), low-slung (sub 52" height), RWD sedan is enticing. Would be a unique offering on the market for sure.

InspGadgt 07-25-2014 02:33 PM

If anything they should make the tC a 4 door.

strat61caster 07-25-2014 03:30 PM

I'm in because there's a poll: define "support"

Buy it? Nope, not practical enough, can find hatches with more space and get better mileage and still bring the fun factor for less money.

Moral support? Sure, nifty idea, offsets the cost of developing the platform for future iterations of enthusiast goodness.

Will it happen? LMAO Nope.

Edit: Voted no because 'support' in my mind is actually purchasing the thing which as I mentioned above is unlikely for me.

Fail theres plenty of sports cars with 4 doors...Evo's and STi's to name a few

CAMBAM_6 07-25-2014 03:45 PM

I think it would be pretty cool to have a sedan and a hatchback version of the FRS/BRZ....I say the more they do with the 86 the merrier...Not saying id buy it but it would be cool to see more variations around and expand our community..not a fan of that particular concept or picture i think some changes would need to be made, like tail lights need to be altered for one because they dont fit a sedan version at all lol

*I voted NO just for that particular picture you posted though...I would vote yes on a better looking concept with an 86 badge

I heard the 4-door is gonna be a hybrid of supercharged, turbo'd and hybrid engine.

And solar.

If they would even dare putting a more powerful motor in such a thing it would be followed by an angry mob possessing torches and pitchforks...I'd be the organizer of that posse right to Toyota/Subaru North America.

1. buy Subaru impreza
2. remove front drive shafts
3. ?????
4. Profit

optional: toyota badges

lynk26 07-30-2014 08:32 PM

I wouldn't mind a sedan with suicide doors like the RX8 for easier access to the back seats. You could keep the sleek coupe look with the utility of four doors.

Good, then I can drive for Uber
