Where do you get your FR-S worked on?

Hey folks, I just fulfilled a roughly 5 year old dream and bought an FR-S in whiteout with a 6 speed. I couldn't be more thrilled. I've wanted this car more than anything else since I saw pictures of the FT-86 concept in Car and Driver back in 09.

Anyway, I purchased the car from CarMax with 12k miles on it. I know they're pretty good about quality there, but I want to get it looked at while the 30-day warranty is still intact.

Can any of you suggest a good, trustworthy shop to get the car looked at top to bottom? Or would you all just suggest the dealer?

Thanks!

Stock car.. You can probably just get the dealer to do a PPI (Pre Purchase Inspection) on it

You're supposed to do the PPI before you buy the car...hence Pre-Purchase Inspection.

Take it to a trusted mechanic !

limitedblkwrx 07-22-2014 03:34 AM

Yeah you are, but if you go to a dealer they will still call it a PPI even though you already purchased. I am glad we can't get anything past you.

No, you missed the point. Generally, you don't buy a car, then find out the problems. You find out the problems of the car, then haggle/get them to fix it before you take it off their hands.

No you missed the point, he already bought the car. He still wants to get it checked out to make sure there are no issues, which is why I suggested to a PPI. PPI is a checklist of all the different components that should be checked plain an simple. Should I call it a "Just Bought My Car Now I Would Like It To Be Checked Out With The Exact Same Check List As The PPI" or JBMCNIWLITBCOWTESCLATPPI for short?

Okay...and I advised him that this something that you're SUPPOSED to do an inspection BEFORE you pick up the car.

You're here telling me that "Dealers call it PPI even though it's after you buy it. He bought a used car and he wants to make sure there is no issue even though he picked it up already."

I'm not disagreeing with the PPI. I'm only saying it's not good practice to buy a used car without inspecting it.

I also suggested a TRUSTED mechanic because not everyone trusts the dealer.

Bring it to the Wednesday Meet. I am sure all of us will be able to take a quick look over to see if there is anything wrong.

Fast_Freddy 07-22-2014 05:44 PM

I'd take it to Brady at Pure Automotive.

Dan @ Mach V Motorsports is in Sterling/Ashburn area, has a BRZ and does a lot of Subie/Evo work. Also has an open house this Saturday.

Basically just check for leaks, rust, make sure suspension components are in tact. Compression/leak down test if you're up for it. I have a compression tester I can lend if needed.
