What is the best sounding exhaust for under 2k?

That includes the full package of overhead pipe plus exhaust. I want to get something high quality.

1. Youtube.com
2. Search button
2. Local meets
It's all about personal preference, but those will help you find videos of different set ups and you can choose by listening yourself. Good Luck!

Alright thanks dude!

For $2k? Hell, all of 'em. You can spend $500 and get a very good one. Do that and save money for other mods.

Something of high quality with a deep rumble instead of Honda civic fart box?

WhiteFRS69 07-20-2014 12:39 PM

IMO you wont get the nice deep rumble until you get a set of UEL headers, you'll get that signature Boxer sound with it

other exhausts IMO without this, just doesnt sound good

I've actually been surprised at the LACK of fart can exhausts for this car considering the market.

Plenty of them bro.

Not to offend the Honda guys but I haven't heard anything like listening to those cars with aftermarkets in the 1990's. Not even close. Even some of the stuff I hear now on other 4 cylinder platforms is terrible. I'm only saying the exhausts for this car seem to be better tested products with more r&d and therefore have better overall sound quality. Not all tho obviously.

I have the TRD but I'll be quick to say it is not the best one and was not my first choice. I LOVE the TRD it is expensive! It's very mature and has a deep bassy sound without being obnoxious. If it drones I haven't heard it. Seems perfectly mated for this car. Never boomy sounding or juvenile either. However, Borla and Corsa caught my attention first. I still love both and both have their attributes IMO. The Corsa has a slightly exotic tone to it and is the best I've heard to date. It is pricey tho depending on where purchased. The Borla offers GREAT sound for the money and ultimately the one I woulda chose had it been my own money but it wasn't. I had a dealer credit of $1k and got the TRD. I'm very happy with it as most are.

TRD would be my first choice too as like you said, it is perfectly mated for our cars. Borla is a pretty big name, although I can't say I've been too impressed with the exhausts I've heard. Do you have a particular model that you like I should check out?

i really think a UEL brings a great deep tone to the cars exhaust
silver car has UEL while the red has a EL

plus you wont see much HP gains with just a catback,

ive always been the person, if your gonna do it, just do it all at once

Ppl like the Borla on here for good reason. Listen to more than one vid. Not all vids are great. ALL the Corsa vids I heard were great. I believe both companies only make one model for our cars. Folks will certainly correct me if I'm wrong. Good luck. IMO there are more good choices than bad.

Hate to be a debbie downer but both sound pretty fart box-y.. do they sound better in person?

I totally agree though, if done, all needs to be done at once.

ive heard some UEL cars with car backs and it sounds like the typical boxer, STI, WRX sound,

also have heard some cars with just a catback fart can on it and it sounds like you would think IMO

I guess the combo of which headers+exhaust really really matters eh? What makes that fart box sound anyways? Is it the exhaust or the header? I'm sorry, car noob and I'm still trying to learn. Just don't wanna put rice-sounding stuff in my car

Sideways&Smiling 07-20-2014 02:13 PM

Get an exhaust that flows well and forget about what it sounds like.

It's a DD, I'm not worried about track for a while so I definitely care what it sounds like. If it's a fart box I don't care if it adds 200hp haha

Wow, I just heard those vids for the time. IMO THAT IS NOT fart box and as good as it gets on these cars. Now I did listen on my phone nevertheless that sounded REALLY good. Bravo to the owners of those 2 cars. A smidge loud but great.

I have an open flash header, a P&L true 2.5" over pipe, P&L true 2.5" catted front pipe, and P&L true 2.5" catback. All in all cost about 1800 and sounds amazing. Nice deep rumble, all stainless. Not honduh fart can ricey at all

yea i guess its all about personal opinion at this point, i think the red one from that video sounds a little like a fart box,

but at the end of the day, its not my car

im looking at the FT86factory catted UEL header with a Perrin Exhasut, (over pipe, test pipe and catback)

I hear you loud and clear. I'm coming from a V8 and realistically these are 4-cylinders at the end of the day. Once I wrapped my head around that concept it became about finding best/most cost effective least obnoxious sound available. I think this car is TOO quiet stock and at the very least an exhaust is needed that reasonably coincides with this engine.

If I get the chance I'll get the go pro out and try and get a sounds clip later

Chen 07-20-2014 04:23 PM

I have a 2.5' perrin header back. With stock header. I personally think it sounds the best with or without aftermarket header.

You're a good person, thanks!

Kevinmp7 07-20-2014 08:08 PM

Check out the Tomei type 80. I have a dc front pipe (catless) with the type 80 and it sounds amazing. No rasp (which I like) and it has a nice low rumble. I'll see if I can get a video of how it sounds inside the car.

Vracer111 07-20-2014 09:50 PM

I'd love to have the Auto Factory exhaust... it's the sound I'm looking for:

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLjVPGJKNm4"]AUTO FACTORY 86 ExhaustテストinFSW - YouTube[/ame]

I have an SRT catback, which I do like. Sounds like this:

[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46UR_tI7ZrY"]frs exhaust - YouTube[/ame]

VacantSky 07-20-2014 10:19 PM

Please excuse how quiet it is, no idea why it's that way. The exhaust is louder in person. I tried to get an in cabin video but the mic is very sensitive and the roads here are terrible so it pretty much picked up every vibration more than in cabin noise. I can attest to the fact that it is not unbearable at 3000rpm cruising. fairly quiet actually.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpPY...ature=youtu.be

here's a video from right next to the tail pipe too:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGQN...ature=youtu.be

don't judge the exhaust on this as the camera is right next to the tail pipe and muffler. All I had left of my gopro mounts were the curvy ones so I had to put it on the rear "diffuser" where it curves right under the rear bumper. It sounds obnoxious here but it really isn't.

....or maybe it is and I'm just a hooligan :burnrubber:

Hope this helps your quest.

Obja 07-20-2014 10:22 PM

invidia invidia invidia invidia invidia invidia

did i mention invidia

Frozen_skidmark 07-20-2014 10:57 PM

Be careful of the volume levels... the Invida N1 was the one I was interested in, but in real life wow, it was pretty loud! Youtube videos are pretty deceptive.

I use my car as a daily driver so I have to start her up at 5:00 am some times. I actually ended up going with the TRD cat back, which is quieter but has a really low tone to it. I actually love it, sounds mean but doesn't piss off the world!

If it was just a fun machine, I probably would've gone Invidia.

l0aded 07-21-2014 03:45 AM

They all sound meh imo. Not fart box bad but i haven't heard any exhaust sound good to me (think FA20 just sounds meh overall). Not a fan of the boxer UEL sound either. But definitely go to meets if you can, most youtube videoes don't capture the sound very well.

blackhawkdown 07-21-2014 04:28 AM

Best exhaust to date without a question, amuse r1 dual tip for the twins.
