I just got back from a trip so I apologize if this is old news.

And i stand corrected.

That article is not specific to the BRZ, but hopefully the BRZ would be included as part of the production increase...

Yeah, I hope so too.

I think the earlier announcement of doubling BRZ/GT86 production probably rolls into this overall plan of more cars throughout their product lines. I don't see anything in there that leads me to believe this relates to BRZ production, but we can hope. I'd like to see them sell a lot more.

GMU-BRZ 05-27-2012 09:33 PM

There's a serious Impreza shortage right now too. Everything dealers have are Outbacks and Legacys, which are made in Indiana. They need to expand production over here to include Impreza if they hope to keep up with demand.

eikond 05-27-2012 09:33 PM

Nowhere in this article does it say they are increasing BRZ production. They are talking about expanding overall production for all of Subaru.. and they are doing so by adding more capacity in Japan vs. in the US. It does not, however, state that the BRZ is adding production.

alluringreality 05-27-2012 09:37 PM

The redesigned 2012 Impreza is manufactured in Japan, and in the US its currently selling in a month about what the BRZ was reported to have allocated for a year. Between the Impreza and BRZ producton it's certainly possible that Subaru may have shifted more of their total production to Japan, but I don't see any reason to expect different US BRZ allocation from the article.

I kind of hope they don't increase brz production. I like the Limited availability ;)

ngabdala 05-27-2012 09:48 PM

Me too. Although, there would be much more room to negotiate prices.

Even though it didn't say more brz's, they are building 28% more cars by the end of march 2013. Anyone would assume with the increasing usa sales it would include what the market is demanding.

That was my take on the article

Hm, Subaru can't make up their mind. Only a week or so ago, after being denied the opportunity to build a factory in China, Subaru was saying that they are gonna expand in the U.S., by investing $75mil. I wonder if they reconsidered that or this is in addition to.

ngabdala 05-27-2012 10:30 PM

I would feel the same way if I were you.

This article does not mean they are not doing that. What they are saying is that they won't be building new plants in USA. An expansion of the Indiana plant of 75 mil is something different.

Are you talking the base 2013 Impreza or the WRX/STI? From what I understand, they're done building 2012 WRX and STIs and still haven't announced what's happening with them for 2013.

FWIW, this is what my dealer's inventory looks like. There's less Imprezas than most others but they certainly have 'em.
  • Forester (75)
  • Impreza (27)
  • Impreza WRX (6)
  • Legacy (33)
  • Outback (76)
  • Tribeca (5)

Referring to 2012 base Imprezas. That’s a solid number for your dealership, so maybe the shortage is just regionally or locally. But nearly all the 5 door Imprezas that are coming in at local dealers are already sold before they hit the lot. My friend was trying to test drive one over the weekend. The 3 closest dealerships had 0, 1, and 2 Imprezas on the lot that weren’t already sold, only one of which was a 5 door.

She decided to buy one over a 5 door Mazda 3, called the dealer to reserve one that was still 3 weeks out and available, and in the roughly 5 business hours since she talked to the dealer that one had already been snatched up too.

We are sort of spoiled as this is the #2 dealership (formerly #1!) in the country. :) I didn't check to see how many of those are in stock vs in transit, but I would assume that most are in stock. I'm starting to see a few of them driving around. The new gray wheels look great on them!
