I hate kid drivers

So I went out to dinner with a date, as I am leaving this kids decide to be jackasses. I am pulling out(haha insert joke here) of the restaurants parking lot making a right onto a 4 lane 45mph road. I have about 50ft to merge into the left hand lane, because the right ends. I am think ok whatever, minivan zips by I make the lane switch I have plenty of room 100ft between the minivan the a 90s cadillac with some kids driving. I am taking in nice and slow, am about to shift out of 1st and the kid starts accelerating he pushes it up at least 60mph, so how I have wonderful choice between stomping on the gas and getting rear ended. So am stomping the gas and take it <6k rpms and freaking out my date, so I don't' get hit by these idiot kids. Then latter at a stop light they roll past with a big grins on there face and are laughing.

Date got freaked out at a 6Krpm 1st gear pull?
Kick her to the curb quick!

ericmpena 07-16-2014 01:46 PM

I wouldn't have sped up for them. If anything I would've slowed down and make them go around me.

I wanted to rant

cnk 07-16-2014 01:49 PM

They did it to get a reaction out of you and you reacted just like they wanted. You say it was a 4 lane road so why not just change lanes and let them pass on your right or just maintain speed as they would then have the choice to either hit you or pass on your left? Kids may be stupid and irresponsible, but I doubt many would intentionally cause an accident. . .especially a rear-end one where they would be at fault.

It was going from a 4 lane to a 3 lane. I had to merge left and did.

Then they sped up on purpose to scare you because they didn't like the fact that you're in a nice car and merged in front of them. Typical high school kid behavior. I would have just maintained speed or accelerated up to the speed limit and left it at that. Just another reason why I have a dash cam and can easily spin it around to face the rear. I've had a couple idiot drivers who stop their antics once I point to the cam and they see that they're being recorded.

I don't get your date "freaking out" over acceleration in a average powered car. Are you guys older?

Nope in our mid 20s. She isn't terribly comfortable when I do anything fun in the car. She claims I scared the crap out of her, and did kinda squeal. I think the not giving her a warning part is what did it. She drives her kia rio like she is 70.

Speed2th 07-16-2014 02:47 PM

maybe she just got an orgasm from your mad power at 6k rpm.

Yea that has to be it! Maybe my right hand was doing other things since it had lots of free time before hitting 6k rpms.

Jyn 07-16-2014 02:51 PM

Should've merged in front of them. They would've gotten into the left line. They probably were smiling because they thought you were showing out for them.

Kids are idiots, but fairly predictable. They just wanted to show out for the cool car.

Haha, yea thats stark contrast from my wife. The E30 track car in my sig is hers and we have a spare motor for it in the garage with a turbo setup being fabricated for it, she actually bought me my exhaust for the BRZ the first week I had it because it was "too quiet".

Just need to teach your date to have some fun in cars :)

She pissed me off last week so I took a roundabout at 45 mph with in sport mode to make a point :burnrubber:

Cliu91 07-16-2014 03:16 PM

Hating kid drivers is a bit of a stereotype. I think you hate douchebags who happen to be kids that were driving their mom's minivan.

SomeoneWhoIsntMe 07-16-2014 03:19 PM

they were behind you? should have just brake checked them

Can I get a mod to edit to title to "I hate douchebags who happen to be kids that were driving their mom's minivan."

When did high schoolers afford $20k+ cars? In high school, I had a $1500 1989 Honda Accord in 2003, in my junior year.

In highschool I didn't even own my own car. Starting at the age of 17, anything that I wanted that was not considered the bare essentials I decided to pay for myself.

This includes anything from clothes, to video games, and yes, even the FRS.

That was my fault. Same concept applies, grandfather's Cadillac is cool too, but no where near as insulting as mom's minivan.

Manic 07-16-2014 04:57 PM

By contrast, there's a guy at my office, mid to late 20s, that drives a 2004 Corvette. He's always shown my courtesy in the parking lot, often times giving me right of way when we're getting ready to exit. I've never heard him rev over 3k nor have I ever seen him do any sort of hooning. It's always refreshing to see younger, mature drivers even if they're rolling around in sports cars.

I know when I was teenager, I'd have my occasional bouts of stupidity, but most people grow out of that. It worries me when I see 30-40 year olds acting like douchewads (particularly in Temecula, CA): cutting through lanes without signalling, closing gaps when people are trying to merge, excessive tailgaiting.

Sometimes I wish we had the technology to transmit messages through peoples stereos just so we could tell them off.

GreenMonster 07-16-2014 05:22 PM

6.5/10 on rant scale...

I would have scored it higher if you used more CAPS.

Lavalover 07-16-2014 07:36 PM

@Manic
"Sometimes I wish we had the technology to transmit messages through peoples stereos just so we could tell them off"

My fantasy is to have all cars equipped with one surface-to-surface missile. Everyone would be allowed one free shot. Most people probably would become more polite and thoughtful drivers, don't you think?. Of course there would be the unbearable temptation to use the "final option" every time some turd decides to drive 15 mph under the speed limit in the left lane. (Especially if they are in a Prius.)

I would already be toast.

D88 07-16-2014 07:54 PM

Should have tried saving it by doing a "stare and drive".

raven1231 07-16-2014 08:17 PM

But he was in sport mode!!! :burnrubber:

Chad86 07-25-2014 02:35 PM

Our cars attract all types...
It is all part of driving a nice car.

It could be worse.

The last girl that was in my car freaked out over me changing gears. She had no idea what I was doing and was completely unaware that manual cars existed...

Ny Brz 07-25-2014 08:58 PM

This car is affordable, my cousins' son who just turned 16 is able to afford an FRS. If the was around 35K+ then you would see more mid to late 20s DBags driving instead.

CoupedUpSubie 07-26-2014 01:11 AM

How about the 35-50 year old douchebags that see a younger person, mid 20's, driving a nice car or anyone in a sports car for that matter of fact and do the same stuff. If anyone wants to really find douchebags and idiotic drivers, ride a motorcycle.

Douchebag drivers come in all ages.
