Seat belt guide install

I noticed that our BRZ seat belt anchor sucks.

Looking around there seems to some cars that have a seat belt guide that attaches to the headrest poles.

For example the Fiat Spider has this: http://compare.ebay.com/like/3103705..._lwgsi=y&cbt=y

Would that install on our seat headrest? Or maybe there is a universal version? Dodge challenger has them too.

wow that's a GREAT idea!

+1
Indeed it is... Would love to see if it would indeed fit, or hopefully some creative 3rd party will come up with something like this soon.

After my recent test drive I was thinking of a way to stop the belt from rubbing on my neck to. My original thought was to use a seat belt extender to move the point where the shoulder belt and waist belt come together. It would stop the rubbing and also that would allow the seat to be moved without needing to disengage the belt from anything.

This would look a lot better though. Hmmm

BRZranger 05-27-2012 12:10 PM

I wonder if the headrest posts are standardized as far as the distance of the posts...

Try one of these it may allow for further clearance from your neck ya never know for 15$ its worth a shot and if not you have cool shoukder cushioning

I noticed this guys are in Atlanta. I've sent them an email to see if I could "stop by" their location and have them try to fit one to see if it would work. I'll let you know if I get a reply.

MRZ415 05-28-2012 04:30 AM

someone NEEDS to buy it, once I see photos of that working
I would buy it too.

Calum 05-28-2012 09:24 AM

If they fit we should do a group buy.

I'm looking for a way to put in proper racing harnesses (and 1 piece racing seats)… if anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears.

And a cage I presume?

Probably start with a 4 point bar, but yes. Will forgo any attempt to put in a harness bar. Chris Musante built me an FIA compliant cage for this car years ago. 2.75". Thing was massive.

I wonder what he can do with a BRZ...

Khyron686 05-28-2012 08:17 PM

Be interesting to see since they say the dash was designed around having one...

Not sure what you are asking.. you seem to understand that a roll bar (or cage) would be required. Seat is easy, either make a custom mount (or if a cage, build a seat mount into the cage structure) or wait for a seat mount adapter from Sparco, PCI, etc..

You sir need to make a thread to share your cars and experience with the rest of the members!

The 86/FRS/BRZ interior was supposedly designed with some level of consideration towards installing a roll cage. No clue if that's actually going to make it an easier job or any less expensive to install a cage that meets the requirements of your choice road-racing governing body.

That's probably the route that I'll take. Then buy/build the bar/cage around that setup. Got time, though. Trying to decide how far to take this as a track machine.

:) Will do. I'll try to get something together. In the meantime you can watch this. That video was shot over 2 practice runs and a final competitive run -- when it was wet. It wasn't a true multi camera shoot. You can see the route of that section of that special stage here. That video starts roughly before where the 3rd white dot is along that route. The car is a Williams prepped Renault Clio. Front wheel drive.

Glad I'm not the only one who thought the seat-belt cutting into my neck was an annoyance. Interested to see how that works, but honestly I think I'll get used to it...over time.

I used to have Takata harness pads on my first WRX and those felt awesome! So much better than those generic "branded" seat belt pads. But the Takatas are EXPENSIVE (I acquired them from a friend who didn't need them), and not worht the money IMO, plus I'm sure they're hard to find. But if money isn't too much of an object, those would make a great alternative. Oh yeah, and if you don't mind the JDM-ricer green they come in too, ha ha ha...

Response from the eBay seller in regards to the seat belt guide, the holes are 160mm apart, anyone have time to measure?

Next question would be if the post "notches" match with ours? Only way would be compare side to side or test it out.

That's the same response I got after asking for the location of their shop to try to see if it would fit. I'm guessing this must be some basement business and the guy doesn't want visitors.

Oh well, I tried.

5 3/4" between centers of the posts.

Calum 05-30-2012 05:19 AM

So, less then 160mm. Somewhere around 147mm.

immortal_suby 05-30-2012 05:36 PM

Might work then if you just drilled another hole

Calum 06-09-2012 08:08 AM

ok, my idea wont work in this car.

The original posters idea didn't pan out and the holes look too small anyway.

Please someone needs to figure something out for this. The belt literally doesn't touch my shoulder at all if I don't use the strap and with the strap it's still half on my neck. Please someone make a seat belt guide to slide over the head rest posts.

I've made something, but I'm really not satisfied with it. I don't have the fabrication tools to do this properly.

If there would truly be a market for this (at a reasonable price), I'll go drop off my car with my engineer tonight and see what he can fab up.

I'd be interested in something like this if priced cheap enough - but wasn't cheaply made. Dance a fine line between a quality product and not paying a premium price for it. Everyone's idea of value would be different, but $30 is "no brainer" money. $100 would make me think twice if I need it.

Yes please.

I'm working on version two, if I can get the pieces welded I'll post pics at least to get the idea ball rolling.

Calum 06-09-2012 09:51 PM

It's night time so the pics may not be all that clear. I think you can get the idea though.

The base of the loop sticks past the headrest about four inches. After a short drive, this seems like a good distance for me. It's still a compromise, but one that will be livable.

Right now I have hockey tape protecting the headrest posts from getting scratched, as well as holding the bar in place.

It's not pretty, any of it. I'm hoping if someone makes something like this it'll be a lot more elegant. This is just a cheap piece of bar stock and an even cheaper piece of round stock, bent and welded together.
