New here? Come say hi =)

Welcome to FT86club! Well, you're probably here because you're interested in this car. And that's why I'm here and put up this fansite :)

Can't wait for this car to go production. 2011 seems way too long away! But hopefully we can all pass that time together by sharing info and discussions until it's finally on the streets.

Be sure to bookmark the homepage blog. I've been a blogger for years so will be updating the blog with any new FT86 developments, info, and news.

Again, welcome and looking forward to chatting with you all.

Well I guess I'll be the first. Name is Kenji, from Miami. Happy with my RX-8 but always looking ahead to next car. Something like this is right up my alley. I just hope they make it light and tossable. I'll be checking in often and thanks for this site.

Nice layout! Just wanted to say hi =). Can't wait for the real car to arrive.

Jon here. If toyota actually produces a car that looks like this and costs around $20k, you'll be seeing me lots around here. Glad to find a forum for the FT86 already. Bookmarked!

Hi! Current driver of a tC here, and I'm pretty excited about this coming out (oh pleasepleasepleaseplease bring it over here to the States, Toyota). Toyota originally brought Scion out as a separate brand in order to gain market share with people who would have never even bothered to shop there previously, and then wanted those people to transition into the Toyota family. Well, they got me with the first part (when the tC came out it had an amazing amount of spec standard, and was faster than anything else in the sub-$16k category, or even sub $20k) but UTTERLY FAILED in the second. I'm supposed to go from a $16k Scion to... a $32k Lexus? That's the only other car in the Toyota family that's even remotely sporting. Or a $20k Matrix? Nope, don't have kids and don't need that kind of practicality.

There was just a huge hole in the lineup between the $16k (ok, it's now $17k) tC and anything even remotely sporty/fun to drive. So as I'm thinking about finally replacing the tC (5 years old now), I've been contemplating any number of low $20k sporty cars to replace it. GTI. MCS. MS3. Civic SI. Abarth 500 (if it ever gets here). I want small, fun to drive, lightweight, decent power-weight ratio, low 20k range, Coupe (or I'd already have a Miata, but it gets REALLY cold here in WI). While I'd like RWD, I'm not about to give up on the small and lightweight aspect just to get it (I'm looking at you, Genesis Coupe, Mustang, Camaro, etc).

Basically, I want a RWD Mini Cooper S. Small. Lightweight (2650lbs). 170hp. $21k. Well built. If Toyota can achieve that with this, it'll be the next car in my driveway when it gets here. If they can't achieve this (2900+lbs, less than 160hp, more than $23k) I'll just start test-driving the MINI, Abarth, A1 (c'mon Audi, bring this over as well), and I'll be another ex-Toyota customer.

JP from Vancouver. Currently own a WRX, a big Initial D fan, previously lived in Japan, and have also owned a Z car in the past so I've got lots of reasons to be into this car (the boxer engine, the hatchiroku chassis designation, the RWD layout, etc etc).

On one hand, I can't wait for this car to come out. On the other hand, I'm glad it's a ways off because I won't be able to buy one for quite some time (and I don't think I'd want a first year model anyway).

Either way, I am stoked about this car!

N.A. from TC,
Currently driving an NA Mazda Miata, year-round in MN. With the hardtop and snow tires, driving in the winter is more fun than the summer - kind of.

I hope the Toyota FT-86 will prompt Mazda to launch their Kabura and that will get Nissan's ball rolling on a realistic version of the 'URGE' concept. Why can't we have the Japanese create and sell to this great niche market? Small, cheap, front-engined, rear-wheel drive, two-dour, four-seat, lightweight, stylish, fuel efficient, Holy Grail of useful sports cars...

Mazda brought back the small roadster market with the Miata, hopefully Toyota will have the same level of success with the FT-86!

Hi everyone,

Just like most of you I'm expecting a lot from the FT-86.. Hopefully it'll find it's way to Europe as well.. this might be a very nice daily car for me.

I'm also a Nürburgring visitor, photographer and driver (usually twice a month as long as weather permits) so you can expect some sneaky spy shots from me as well :)

RWDJunkie 10-13-2009 08:58 PM

Hi all,

Glad to see this concept is finally off the ground and moving forward after the project was reported to have been cancelled and otherwise put on hold quite a few times. Hope to see good things from the production model.

As for me, I'm currently without a car. Last car I owned was a Corolla. Might have to bite the bullet and join the 240 crowd or something for the time being though. And try to avoid getting stung to hard by the mod bug along the way.

zrg 10-13-2009 11:08 PM

Hi everyone. Fan from the Philippines. Hope the car comes out on our shores..

Shadowsong6 10-13-2009 11:19 PM

Sup guys, Names J.R. I'm from the Houston area, soon to be relocated to the Colorado springs area.. (yay army)

Currently drive a 2005 Mustang (booo v6..)

I've been looking for a new car for a while, and was almost sold on a genesis coupe, but I've always been an initial d fan, and when I heard toyota was working on a gen coupe competitor, I knew I had to wait.

RadOnc 10-14-2009 12:50 AM

Hey everyone, I'm going to be finishing up my training next July and will need a new car then and so it looks like the 86 will be it. I have to give my 328i back at the same time and i'm tired of BMWs (too big, too heavy, to much bad karma). Hopefully the 86 comes out by then, if not I plan on getting myself a corrolla beater for a few months until the 86 comes out :) :)

Howdy from an NB owner who agrees 100% with you. There is simply no substitute for lightweight and RWD. If Toyota can attain their target of 2650lbs (and if the shifter and steering are good), I'll buy the Ft-86. If it's above 2700lbs, I'm not interested.

It's a travesty that the Kabura (cheap, RWD, ~2500 pounds, nifty 3+1 seating) didn't make it to production. Hopefully the Kabura, 16X, and old RX-01 concept will be mixed together for a new, inexpensive, lightweight, 3+1 seat RX7 in a few years.

Hello! I just stopped and wanted to say hi to everyone. Board is looking pretty tight and I am glad to be here at the early stages. Lets see what the FT got to offer in the near future.

A little about me:

I am another lightweight toyota car enthusiast. I drive a AE86 with a 20v BT swap and have a kp61 in the works.

Beautiful coupe there!:)

Your location made me lol.

Hey guys, it's Wes, AKA Drivesan89caravan at Club4ag and Hachiroku.net.

I daily drive a zenki 85 corolla GT-S, and couldn't be more anxious for more news about it's successor. I'm actually quite surprised this forum popped up so fast, considering the term FT 86, and the recent media onslaught is only a couple weeks old.

Looking forward to seeing how this all plays out over the next couple of years.

Hey what up! I am ura86 on club4ag (or was) after I got banned over that babe thread. Oh well... that is what happens when you put chicks on a car forum (or is it supposed to?) oh well... They should create a "off topic" section.

yeah man... you have to listen to my ring tone on my cell. Pretty funny. I am actually located in FL.

Welcome again everyone! Its seems like we're picking up some steam with a good # of users already. This car has everyone's imaginations going and the internet buzzing.

itpro75 10-15-2009 08:41 PM

Just saw a photo of the concept in Autoweek. I never heard of it before but the photo instantly caught my eye. I recently sold a 25 year old sports car that was a weekend ride. The FT-86 looks like it might be a nice substitute and might also serve as my daily driver. Looking to buy around 2012 or 2013 so the timing might be right from what I'm reading.
