Colour Recommendations for a Colourblind Person!

1 Attachment(s)
Hey guys, so I'm facing a bit of a dilemma here, nothing major though.
I recently just bought these wheels: candy purple Enkei Kojins (I'm colourblind so these actually just look blue to me)
Attachment 84770

My problem is that my car is an Ultramarine, and I think the wheels would blend in too much with the rest of the car (the wheels look like they're Ultramarine to my eyes). Now, I have black plastidip laying around from when I plastidipped my stock wheels and I don't want to go black again. It hides the details on the wheels too much.
I can't decide what colour to plasti-dip them before mounting them onto the car. I knew I was going to be plastdipping them when I got them so I knew it was coming. I just didn't think the decision would be this hard. Those of you who are not colourblind as I am, what colour combination would you recommend?
Maybe some examples? I'd prefer a glossier finish by the end of it though.

DAEMANO 07-12-2014 04:46 AM

Those wheels are as purple as purple can get. There not even close to Ultramarine. So don't worry a out them blending in AT ALL. The color combo might be even a bit loud. It'll look custom that's for sure.

Hotrodheart 07-12-2014 04:56 AM

Oh, I wouldn't worry about the blending in issue.

And why is that? Unfortunately my dumb eyes tell me they're an exact match lol.

I'll chip in and also agree they will be very noticeable on ultramarine.

:confused0068: LOL, those wheels are a VERY different color than the ultramarine color of your car. Not sure the combo will even look good. Wheels of that color (purple) will be making a very bold statement and would probably only work for a whiteout, raven, asphalt or maybe even the new yellow on the RS1. I personally like the look of the colors black and silver with my ultramarine. You could also paint or plasti-dip them white. (although they would be harder to keep clean looking.)

semowashere 07-12-2014 10:17 AM

This might not be the answer your looking for but those wheels are a beautiful purple. It would be a shame to paint them. I consider vinyl wrapping your car before repainting wheels. Or let someone else enjoy that gobstopper purple.

Ryuu0u 07-12-2014 10:42 AM

I actually think this colour combo could work! Throw them bishes on!

jvincent 07-12-2014 10:46 AM

I drive an Ultramarine and those will definitely stand out from the car.

FWIW, I like silver on the Ultramarine.

kodyo 07-12-2014 11:04 AM

Plastidip is the easiest way to turn decent looking wheels into cheap looking crap.

VeezyF 07-12-2014 03:14 PM

i know you're color blind but do wheels not say the color when you order them online? =/

Mr.Zoolittle 07-12-2014 03:57 PM

this is awesome, mount those bad boys

pcporo 07-12-2014 04:14 PM

yea throw one of those on the car and show us what it looks like!

SubaruLifer 07-12-2014 06:02 PM

I'm with everyone else. Mount those on your car and post pics. That purple is awesome.

AtlasMick 07-12-2014 06:14 PM

They look pretty badass as is.

TCGMark 07-12-2014 07:10 PM

I agree with most here. Mount them. If you can't tell the difference between the color of the rims and the color of your car, and you think it looks good, then who cares what anyone else thinks. It will certainly be unique and perhaps make a statement.

Lavalover 07-12-2014 07:18 PM

I would add a purple racing strip or two to tie in the wheel color. For some of us it would be our worst nightmare, but hey, why not give it a try.

Photoshop is your friend.

Karl07 07-12-2014 07:49 PM

I agree with most here...they are a sweet shade of purple. I have no color sense so not sure what goes, but damn they are sexy.

ModBargains 07-12-2014 07:53 PM

They could look good on the right car. Nice shade of Purple

Zed 07-12-2014 08:32 PM

I'm going to approach this via complete idiocy: The wheel color are a very appealing and bold royal purple (meaningless to you). based on shitty googling:

http://www.colourblindawareness.org/...our-blindness/
http://health.howstuffworks.com/huma...blindness2.htm

I am assuming you have either Deuteranopia or Protanopia... Imagine the wheel's 'purple' to be a shiny and reflective version of yellow (based on shitty google, both forms of color blindness can still distinguish some shades of yellow from brown/blue/bleh).

in terms of dark brown (1) to neon yellow (10), I'd subjectively say its about a 7.5 due to the glossy coat finish. I think the wheels provide decent contrast via ultramarine (4) from a shiny perspective.

That said, I personally would not rock purple on ultramarine, but I think the others that previously voiced out would love seeing such a bold combo and would definitely go against the generic/norms of black/bronze/gold/etc.

Hopefully someone else here more skillful than I could photoshop the purple to an equivalent intensity of yellow so you can have a better idea of how purple-y it looks.

p.s. mount the suckers and post pics.

Hotrodheart 07-12-2014 10:04 PM

They'd look better in purple....

I think the problem for him his, that color looks the same as several other colors including ultramarine so he can't decipher the difference or the way it would look to other people on his car.

Yup. I knew they were purple when I bought them. Bought them from a member here and got a great deal on the wheels+tires so it was almost a no brainer. Plus even though I can't see purple, I really do like the colour (I can't distinguish it from blue but to me, it's a really nice shade of blue) and I knew they would be very aggressive on an ultramarine.

My only reason for this thread is that as much as I might think something looks good or not, my colour matching skills aren't that great for obvious reasons, so while I may like what I see, it might be completely obscene to people with normal vision.

And I know people are going to say "Who cares what other people think? It's your car. If you like it, do it. To each their own" but this comes down to more about an impairment that I have instead of "personal preference".

But as a lot of you have suggested, I will lower my car when I get the springs and mount the wheels on there to see how the car sits and looks with them on. Then I will ask for the opinion again! :)

I'm amazed on how our brain and eyes work. I would probably say stick with the purple ones for couple months and then plasti dip white, in my opinion white looks great on ultramarine frs.

trd_kid 07-13-2014 02:44 PM

What defiency are you ? I'm red-green and can tell these are very purple . But I also used to think the Taco Bell sign outline was blue ... Turns out it was purple .

Just for the reference for this discussion, here is a color wheel image from Google:

Attachment 84911

@kALMIGHTY, IMHO, the wheels looks like a Violet-like color in the color wheel, whereas your ultramarine car is in the Blue section of the color wheel. As you can see, these two colors sit fairly closed to one and another on the color wheel, therefore they are more *analogues* (i.e. similar) than other color combinations. The effect is like these colors *blends* together nicely, if this is the effect that you are looking for.

There are three major types of color matching: complimentary, triad color (balanced), and analogues. Without going too much details, here is the break-down:

* complimentary: match one color with another one *directly* across on the color wheel. For example, blue vs orange, or red vs green. This combo provides highest contrast to human eyes, and thus most *flare* and get most attention.
* triad color (balanced): match one color with two other colors with equal distance. I.E. Blue with Red and Yellow; Green with Violet and Orange, and so on. This provides less contrast compared with complimentary option, but it is more of a balanced approach.
* analogues: match one color with its adjacent colors on the wheel. Things like blue with blue-violet/violet or red with red-orange or yellow with yellow-orange. This provides less contrast so things blend-in nicely with no significant separation from one to the other.

Note that the colors black, grey, brown, and white are considered *neutral* colors, meaning they can blend with all the other colors well with certain degree of contrast. Silver, IMO, is like a grey color that would work with many different colors.

So now, back to your original question, This combo of violet and blue is analogues in terms of color-matching. However, if you want something flashy with plasti-dip, I would suggest to go with orange or yellow for your ultramarine color car. Furthermore, if you have GT5/6 on PS3, try the colors virtually in the game and see how it goes before you apply it IRL. That way you know the color you need to achieve the effect you are looking for and be confident about the choice.

Hope this is helpful.

bcj 07-13-2014 08:32 PM

Go rock them.

Theoretically fluorescent green doesn't go with any of the twin stock colors,
but I've seen them and it seems to work. Who'd 'a thunk?

I'm red-green as well. More green than red. My brother is also red-green but he has more trouble with the reds.

I did a quick photoshop of what it might look like. I might have gotten the colour of the wheels wrong a little so I'm sorry in advance.

Thoughts?

xmadror 07-14-2014 06:56 AM

I'd use them as is, its an odd color but it works rather well along with your ultramarine.

Shedd22 07-14-2014 09:28 AM

I say go for it. Shit, if you dont want them I'll take 'em

MrAmalto 07-14-2014 12:35 PM

Well I'd say its your ride so it doesn't matter what we see as long as it looks go to you. So do whatever looks good to your eyes!

EAGLE5 07-14-2014 01:07 PM

These are great colors:

thill 07-14-2014 02:40 PM

Being honest, I think that color combo looks ridiculous. Unless you are a teenage girl, then you will get lots of honks and waves from the doods....

Just not feeling it at all....

epshtielsl 07-14-2014 03:20 PM

I would paint them. White looks sexy on Ultramarine.
