Question: how are we going to navigate lime creek? just 1 pass then make our way back on the road to our hotels? would someone like to lead lime creek so we dont get lost (i dont know the area too well so i cant do it)

Radio Channel:5-0

Dustin 07-11-2014 03:53 PM

I plan on waiting until it gets a bit closer to the meet to confirm when I'll be leaving but I think the plan was for the Dallas guys to leave some time around 12:00ish. I'll shoot to be in the Waco area around 2:00ish and wait around until I hear y'all are close by. I know I'm probably gonna have to stop somewhere around Austin to fill up again on E85 again though.

carbonBLUE 07-11-2014 04:23 PM

We always could take a small detour to lime creek on the way lol
As of last week all my fluids, also my tires are fresh :)

Husker BRZ 07-11-2014 04:39 PM

As of right now I was planning on going down 67 to 281 thru cleburne, lampasas and marble falls to kerrville. I wanted to take a more scenic route and as of right now I think I will be staying in a hotel in kerrville. Then driving the last 30 or so miles to the meet in the morning.

I kinda wanted to take this way down and maybe stop in a few areas and take pics especially around marble falls (really cool area) lol. My plan was to leave around 12 or so on friday so the trip could be made in daylight and I could just cruise down there. I may be bringing my sisters boyfriend so definite time of departure is still up in the air depending on him.

I'd be open to taking this way with others as it's a good change from 35. I thought about stopping in marble falls @ the blue bonnet cafe (this place is an amazing place to eat) especially if you like breakfast food but htey have a little of everything. http://bluebonnetcafe.net/

Sorry for the long response lol but that's kinda my plan as of right now but could change.

Here's a map:
https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Dall...9!2d30.0474332

If we take this route we could meet up in Alvarado @ the brookshires right off 35 and 67? Just a thought unless we wanted to do it further north.

Ramster 07-11-2014 05:30 PM

I'm probably not going to be able to get on the road until the evening, unfortunately. If I take the day off, I could join you guys, but I haven't decided if I want to use a vacation day for that Friday yet.

Stopping to run Lime Creek is not a bad idea at all. I had originally wanted to meet up around noon somewhere in the area and then cruise down after.

I'll be staying much closer to SA. So not taking 35E will add a good amount of time. Getting infomation of where people are staying will help plan this better as I would guess we are not all at the same location.

The places I was considering for food in SA:

Bluebonnet sounds great!
also that route goes right past lime creek. My vote is in to take a small detour! lol just trying to get some good corners in!

EDIT: I think we should shoot for a noon departure or earlier @Dustin im not sure how that effects when you want to eave since you live weatherford or where you would like to link up on the way, its a month out so. ill put up a small tall in the first post on when people want to depart and who we are linking up with on the way.

EDIT2: Also im sure when we get close we can either agree to go separate ways as we get closer to our hotels or we can maybe try to get some of us together for dinner when we arrive

Dustin 07-11-2014 06:18 PM

It doesn't affect me at all. I'll wait until a time you guys leave is decided, and I'll leave Weatherford when I need to as to meet up with you guys a bit further south. Did the same thing last year.

I've never done lime creek road. Would you be able to make a map of the part we would do? It sounds cool but may depend on my passenger lol How long would it take us? Just trying to see when we would need to leave so we could make that run during daylight!

Is this the right Lime Creek Road? I made a map that leaves from dallas, goes to marble falls then to Lime creek road and back to marble falls.

We could do lime creek road and then go back to marble falls (and eat @ bluebonnet??) and take 281 south from there and people could go there seperate ways from there as 281 heads south towards san antonio, and can be taken towards kerrville.

Texaz Boy 07-11-2014 11:50 PM

I'm down for anything. I'm off thursday through Tuesday :D

kalamitykode 07-12-2014 12:20 AM

We'll have to leave at like 4am to make it to the meet on time, right? Or did I read that wrong? Then Dallas for me is 2 hours in the opposite direction :( Otherwise I'd consider it.

Dustin 07-12-2014 08:12 AM

Most of us are leaving Friday afternoon and staying the night in a hotel somewhere near San Antonio so we don't have to get up to leave that early.

kalamitykode 07-12-2014 11:03 AM

Hmm. May consider it, then. I'll have to see what my bank account looks like closer to the date.

carbonBLUE 07-13-2014 06:40 PM

@Shneegle what was your plan? dustin mentioned something about meeting up with you on the way

35E was the plan and then meet around Waco. Then grab food in SA at one of the places I mention above.

281 could work, Dustin could meet us in Cleburne or Glen Rose.

ohh wow i missed your post up there lol! but yeah cleburne would work for me too

Jyn 07-13-2014 07:58 PM

FYI, Lime Creek has had increased LEO activity as of late. Not sure what time of day and what day y'all were planning on going, but Saturday & Sunday mornings/afternoons are not good times.

What about on Fridays? I think we would be there sometime Friday afternoon depending on when we leave the DFW area.

Usually not too bad, but if it's anytime from 4-7 pm, the traffic will be fun

Let me know though. I love me some Lime Creek!

Chris Madrid's is the place to go for dinner. Plus it is super close to my house, so I could definitely meet up with you all if you don't mind a newly-transplanted local mixing with the D-towners.

Schilo's isn't bad, but the parking downtown is less than favorable. Great breakfast though. Never been to Dough, but have heard good things.

There's also Rudy's BBQ outside of town. Or there is Chunky's (home of the 4 Horsemen burger) or Beto's for Mexican food, both of which were made more popular from some TV show that I've never seen.

For good parking, but less great food, there's a ton of restaurants in the Quarry Market at 281 & Jackson-Keller. Everything from a burger joint to Flemming's steak to a great pizza joint which has less great parking, but way better food.

There's another joint which isn't famous but is maybe worth seeing. Called something like Good Time Charlies (I'll try to get the exact info if interested). This is the epitome of a dive bar/restaurant.

Let me know if you all need more guidance and I can check things out.

Cheers,

That sounds like a great plan to me!!!:D And for those who aren't familiar with blue bonnet they only take cash or checks and NO credit cards! (If we end up stopping there of course)

yeah i was thinking about just waiting in cedar hill near an off ramp on 67 and you could just let me know when you were getting close with the radios. If you left a little earlier at 11:30 we should be able to meet up with dustin on the way and get to blue bonnet by 3:00 so we can beat traffic at lime creek

More than likely it would be Cleburne. No matter which route we take, I'm gonna have to drive to Crowley to fill up and then again in Round Rock/Austin.

Yeah that will work for me. Where are you staying for friday night? I may just hang out in marble falls after doing lime creek and eat at the river city grill for dinner and then finish my trip to kerrville.

Instead of taking the same way there and back to lime creek I would suggest making a loop with Hamilton Pool road (just put in Hamilton pool as its an actual park in the middle of that road) or some other rural roads on the south side of the lake. Not as twisty as lime creek but faster, more scenic, and no LEO as Jyn calls them :) so you get a little of everything. I've done that particular loop several times - whenever there is some excuse to go to marble falls.

For ease in the GPS use: Marble falls, Sandy Creek Park (Leander) which is off Lime Creek, Hamilton Pool Park, Marble Falls. See the google map for the route - I think you'll like it.

Hamilton Pool (so crowded on weekends they turn people away but if you go down on Friday...)

If you want a mid-way place to stop and like wine (or right now peaches) Fredericksburg is more fun than Marble falls (the WW2 museum in Frederickburg is also nice, the restaurants are better, more hotels etc) - you can go lime creek, to Pedernales Falls, to Fredericksburg. Again take back roads between lime creek and Pedernales rather than the 290 highway.

Pedernales Falls

i dont know yet but probably in kerrvile

Dustin 07-14-2014 08:41 AM

Not far at all. Like I said, fill up in Crowley, then take 174 down to Cleburne. Once we're farther south, head over to the HEB off of Canyon Ridge Drive. Looks to be about 10 minutes from Lime Creek Road.

that's convenient. you can grab gas while we grab you a slice of pie maybe? ( if the gas station is before blue bonnet cafe)

I'm down to do lime creek or the other way mentioned above. I've never been either way so :iono:. I've heard a lot about lime creek so I kinda want to do that. :burnrubber:

I don't want to be leading this thing and get us lost lol

spyingwind 07-20-2014 08:36 AM

I don't know yet if I'll be able to join y'all Friday noon time. It entirely depends on my new employer letting me take that day off. If not then I'll be going Friday night.

So put me down as maybe for noon.

Husker BRZ 07-24-2014 03:49 PM

@carbonBLUE I updated a map for us. I added a point in Cedar Hill where there is an off ramp and on ramp and doesn't seem to be a terribly busy area:iono:.
https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Dall...30.5782446!3e0

I kept the rest the same taking 281 to Marble Falls and then to lime creek road and back to Marble Falls and we can decide to go from there if we want. Unless we take another way after lime creek road?

As of right now I plan on leaving the Frisco area around 10:30am so that should put me in Cedar Hill around 11:30 depending on traffic.

looks good to me, when you get close key me up via radio ill be waiting in the parking lot. it looks like all lights are green for me going unless my doctor tells me otherwise. For those of you who dont know i was diagnosed with cancer recently. ill know more soon enough.

Dustin 07-27-2014 04:10 PM

There's a Valero right there at the highway 174 exit in Cleburne. For those of you leaving the Dallas area, how long will it take you guys to get to Cleburne? About an hour? Just trying to coordinate a meeting spot with you guys. I could try to be at that Valero around 1ish if that works with you guys.

Husker BRZ 07-27-2014 10:01 PM

@Dustin According to Google maps it takes 36 minutes with no traffic to get from Cedar Hill where @carbonBLUE and I plan on meeting right now. Our plan was to meet there around 11:30ish so that should put us in Cleburne a little after noon. If this worked out it shows it would put us in Marble Falls a little before 3 unless we hit traffic somewhere.

Is 1 the earliest you could do? Just curious, I'm not sure who all else can leave with us Friday since there hasn't been a lot of talk from anyone else:iono:

Oh man! I'm sorry to hear that! Hope everything is going well and you are able to get the okay from the doctor to go with us!

I can get there at any time after say 9:30 AM so we should be good.

We could just make this the meet spot at say Noon, then go from there. Might need a better address for that.
