Google helped me find this thread over at autogeekonline.net: link

Inside that thread, I found this quote:

No surprise! Chemical guys is a joke! A million different products to have consumers keep spending.

So, I take it you think Meguiar's, Mothers, Adam's, Griot's Garage, Sonax, etc are all jokes, right?

Ryan_west 07-02-2014 11:38 PM

I don't think! I know most of these lines are re-labeled and over priced. Im not going to get into details!

So in other words, you're super offended about expensive cleaning products, but you refuse to provide reasons why they're overpriced.

ExxelDistributions 07-03-2014 04:02 AM

so what products are we supposed to use?

gramicci101 07-03-2014 04:21 PM

Any of the brands sshole listed above are fine. I personally like Sonax. Some people swear by Chemical Guys. It really comes down to personal preference.

Atticus808 07-03-2014 04:23 PM

I like the Chemical guys soap, and leather cleaner.
I hate their leather conditioner.

Lets just say i know a buddy who is a chemist. I know whats in most off all these products (chemicals) on the market and you would be shocked to see the type of profit margins these companies are making.

You're still being vague.

People know that these products are all essentially the same, just branded and marketed differently. That being said, why do you choose to use the products you use? Is it because you've had experience with everything under the sun and don't like it or is it because you've only had experience with one brand.

ExxelDistributions 07-03-2014 07:56 PM

i have used some smart wax, chemical guys & sonax products and I never had any problems with them.

Ive used almost everything on the market. I seriously just have a problem with the price point. I dont know if im confusing you but I know the overhead cost to make nearly everything in the market. Once again you would be shocked! Not going into anymore details man.

Why won't you go into the details. In the words of Desi, "Start 'splainin', Lucy"

You could write for the National Enquirer with a story like that. Or the Onion. Or CNN. With that level of alarmism you could even write for Fox News.

Yes, there's a tremendous markup. There's a tremendous markup on everything you buy. That's called profit. It's not shocking that a bottle of something that sells for $25 only costs $0.30 to produce. That's the way economy of scale works, especially for stuff that you can mix in a 1,000 gallon vat or five.

If you're just trying to provoke an emotional response instead of providing solid, verifiable numbers about specific examples, then your comments will fall on deaf ears. You'll get an emotional response, but it will be against you, not against the evil capitalists at Chemical Guys.

In short, put up or shut up.

gramicci101 07-03-2014 09:27 PM

And if you think Chemical Guys, Sonax, et al. are bad, then let's really play.

Zymöl Destiny Glaze

Zymöl Vintage Glaze

Zymöl Royale Glaze

Please note that the Vintage and Royale glazes come with lifetime refills.

You're not confusing me, you're obfuscating the data.

Well, considering that you've given us nothing beyond overly dramatic condemnations, any information at all would be a good start.

I'll play!

Pretty simple really @Ryan_west - You say you know what's in most products and the huge margins.

Simply tell us a brand that is great quality and sells at a price point that you think is reasonable.

If that product doesn't exist then there's not much point to your comments other than saying "car cleaning products when bought in DIY quantities are expensive". Might be true but doesn't actually help anyone.

Scion10FRS 07-04-2014 08:05 PM

Guys, just ignore comments such as those from Ryan_west. All these constant update on a useless point made from Ryan just wasted my time reading it. I thought the subject was on Wax but I end up reading everyone being angry to one bad comment.

Just ignore Ryan and let's talk about wax!!!

I've been using Auto Glym HD wax and had been putting it on with hand around once per 2 months. My car looks mint after just one coat. I do use two coats but really, I think one was enough.

Hand waxing the FRS is not that hard cuz the car is pretty small, so consider it. Machine wax is kinda scary even thought I use to do that for my old BLACK Rsx, this is my first new car, so I baby her pretty hard, hehe.

I'm with you on that. I hand wax as read and seen too many major stuff ups by amateurs like me using a machine for wax.

I look for waxes that say to apply to the entire car rather than a section at a time. That generally means they are easier to polish off and don't dry too fast.

Adam's buttery wax and Maguiars Ulitimate wax are my current favourites. Already was using Adam's and the detailer that opticoated my car recommended the Maguiars Ultimate wash n wax and the Ultimate wax.

I also like being able to tell my wife I'm off the the garage to massage some buttery wax into my baby!

I haven't tried the Smart Wax mentioned in the OP but looks like they have a good range and the coloured bottles would look good lined up in my detailing cupboard!
