carbon hood and fenders
Car was hit by a drunk driver and I need some parts.
Vis or seibon hood? Which fits better? Does anyone know the weight of factory fenders? Seibon carbons weigh 4.4 each and I cant find anyone who has them. Ive herd fitment can be less than ideal. Any thoughts? |
Probably Vis over Seibon. There are a lot of stories of people being unhappy with Seibon's work.

My seibon pre-preg "dry carbon" panels fit great!
|
I have a VIS hood. Picked it up directly from their warehouse. Great people, great hood, great fit. No complaints!

Unless its too much what about a Varis hood? Those are of dare I say superior quality...
|
I asked a few vendors for pricing on the varis but I dont think I can afford it. An oem hood is about 500 $ plus paint plus install so just guessing maybe ill get 800 $ from his insurance for the hood. Hopefully labor rates and paint are high.

Would you mind taking pictures of the hood and fenders. I'm most interested in fit. Is everything you have dry carbon?
|
While I haven't seen a VIS or Varis bonnet to compare, I am extremely happy with my Seibon CF bonnet.

If you follow the edge along, there is nowhere that it is not in line with height wise, and the gap is consistent all around (obviously that's just dependant on how exact you are with fitting and aligning). |
Thanks. What vendor did you use.

i had the crabon ts hood by seibon. just give it some time in the sun. i had mine for about a week and it started hazing. returned that thing real quick
|
do you have pictures? what vendor was it from? did you wash or wax it?
|
I guess what most people do is they don't paint the carbon fiber, as I have read, carbon fiber will fade, or cloud up upon extended time in the sun. I believe @Sportsguy83 had/has a seibon CF hood and color coded matched it to his car.

Insurance bought mine for me. As to the hazing, etc...my car is parked in a garage overnight but out in direct sun during most of the day. I have yet to see clouding/hazing, etc. When I get a chance, my insurance is paying for the front end to get ceramic pro reapplied after the repairs. |
I am in the market for a carbon fiber hood. are there water deflectors or are they just open vents. I never checked one out yet and I don't water pouring in my engine bay

agreed. I am looking to buy next week |
It looks like they placed the vents on the rain guard offset from the vents in the hood. There's 3 hood vents, and only 2 rainguard vents, so I'd say YES air can still exit through the hood, but not as efficiently as with the rainguard removed.
I've seen this hood and it looks to me to have the most vented area (hood vent area) of all the hoods available. The other hoods I saw had small, thin openings on the vents. The VIS hood looks like it lets a LOT of air out. I'm getting one someday. |

http://i.imgur.com/0JfWhDl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/uJ0RmY0.jpg those are seibons CF fenders and hood. Installed last night. the hood fitment is spot on, same with the driver side fender fitment. i notice the pass fender by the front wheel well area is a little more caved in than its supposed to be. Doesn't really bug me but it is an issue. also mounting holes for clips and bumper retainer on the fender had to be wallowed out a bit to get best fitment. |

Thanks SO much. I have the Seibon Dry Carbon doors, and trunk and was considering the Dry fenders next. But only if I would at least save 5lbs total. The Seibon Dry carbon fenders are 2.5lbs each, so 12-5 = ~7lbs loss good enough. |
