Biggest markup you've found thread!

Guys, I think I found the most expensive FR-S in the country!

http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...84385928_n.jpg

Ohh do I love south Florida! lol

And I believe I won at this competition lol

I think this is frowned upon by scion correct?

W2 05-24-2012 06:43 PM

Wow.... As people have said in other threads crap like this puts the car out of its own market, I could be looking many different cars for that price.

2013 Mustang GT anyone? 370Z?

So many cars come to mind for that price.

Doesn't and STI go for about that also? That's just dumb. Kinda makes me want to wait longer to get that kind of stuff out of the way.

BRZer86 05-24-2012 06:53 PM

That's ridiculous! I'll buy an Evo X for that price. The sad thing is there is a moron that will buy this car.

mr2lor 05-24-2012 06:53 PM

I guess a used FR-S will be the MSRP price for them.

mines13 05-24-2012 07:04 PM

Wouldn't worry about it, in 6 months these marked up cars will be going for MSRP. 6 months after that, less.

typezer0 05-24-2012 07:04 PM

Great that's the second south florida dealer I've seen with a huge mark up. I'm mentally preparing myself for when I have to walk away from the one I have a deposit on at kendall toyota.

raphymartinez 05-24-2012 07:06 PM

Holy Christ

DuMa 05-24-2012 07:10 PM

its a silly markup but you cant blame them for trying. the ones who have the money will spend it if they really want one before everyone else does.

ttknf 05-24-2012 07:11 PM

Just buy a new 370Z at that point....

Turbowned 05-24-2012 07:12 PM

How about a 1991 Acura NSX for cheaper than that?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1991-...item33756e9a78

So many cars in that price range come to mind for $37k OTD...

mattles 05-24-2012 07:16 PM

Just wow.

EDIT: I will send free stickers to anyone that trolls the shit out of that dealership and gets video of it.

http://www.scionofsouthflorida.com/Scion-Pricing.aspx
(Unless it's a trade, it looks like the dealer name is on the sticker)

At the bottom it says

Scion vehicles are mono-spec, and customers can personalize their car with accessories. See the accessories section for available products. Vehicle prices include destination fee. Actual selling price may be subject to a dealer mark-up and/or documentation fee. View Vehicle Search to obtain detailed pricing.

Cruzer214 05-24-2012 07:29 PM

Just came back from Burlington Toyota that has 5 unsold frs's coming in and they told me they are adding 7 grand to the price! I told them I'm outta here, what a joke. I did a online chat wi scion themselves about their practices and they basically blew me off like o well. No frs for me!

Okay thanks, I checked on the Kansas area webpages I had previously looked at, and they don't have that clause.

However, its clearly advertised as 24,9xx on the dealer website. That may be grounds for a call to corporate to let them know this dealership is not playing exactly by the pure pricing rules. Might be worth a shot.

I guess they will just sit there....

Exactly, for those who truly want this car.. ideal buy time will probably be march or april of next year.

Symbiont 05-24-2012 09:21 PM

If my dealership tried to do that to me, I'd have a hard time not hurdling the desk.

Honestly, that's a slap in the face.

K2 05-24-2012 09:29 PM

For well under the cost of that mark up, you could fly across the country to a dealer who will sell you the car at MSRP and then drive it home.
Don't pay any mark up. Find another dealer.

Cheddar 05-24-2012 09:38 PM

Iv already been to my 3 closest dealers and its the same thing to each one I went too.

Ill just have to wait till the hype goes down.

Hanakuso 05-24-2012 09:42 PM

Are people in Florida growing money on trees or more likely smoking trees?

Cheddar 05-24-2012 09:43 PM

Idk but no one in the area of the 3 dealers iv been too would buy any of those.

trucker 05-24-2012 10:33 PM

Oakland, CA dealership is charging $31,250.

Haha, same here. Im fully prepared to ask for my deposit back and walk away if my dealership decides to surprise me with a mark up. I'm tired of waiting but I won't become a victim to this foolishness.

Sounds like all your local dealers got together and are price fixing these cars.

What a joke. This, to me, really is inexcusable and could really turn people off into buying the car.

FujiwaraTofuShop 05-25-2012 12:36 AM

That'd put it at only 5k from a Boss 302, and they're in limited numbers (like 2000). There will be 17k of these FRS on the road by this time next year.

Lonewolf 05-25-2012 12:39 AM

Geez, what is it with all these Florida dealers and they're ridiculous mark-ups?

It's like they called each other and orchestrated this whole scheme so that all of them would have markups in a giant, douchebag conspiracy.

I just saw your post after my post...I think you are dead on...and it will hurt sales...

MUTA 15 05-25-2012 12:45 AM

its selfish but i really hope this does not happen in L.A.

luxmn 05-25-2012 12:49 AM

price fixing, people still do that in this internet age? well i be damn, you would think oil company with be the first one to try... wait they did, somebody call the government please! lol i kid, i dont want to get into the whole political discussion at all.

You're talking about the same L.A. where cars are viewed as toys and fashion accessories? Don't get your hopes up too high. It's the first market I would expect to have markups for most dealers, but like anywhere else there will be some selling at MSRP. The ones that see the whole picture and try to sell their dealership and not just a single car, just have to look.

Yeah man I heard about that happening at p.h. but my salesperson at hamer scion promised no mark-up but i guess i wont know until i see it with my own eyes....if it is marked up i will have no problem taking my money elsewhere.

Flipside909 05-25-2012 01:20 AM

South East Toyota markup. This totally goes against Scion's Pure Pricing structure. Shame on them.

K2 05-25-2012 01:20 AM

"Pure Pricing" is supposed to be the dealer selling the vehicle at the price they advertise. The dealer listed on the window sticker addendum in the original post (Toyota of South Florida) shows 4 FR-Ss on their web site with prices ranging from $26,742 to $27,605. So I guess the $6990 mark up is an in-house special?
http://toyotaofsouthflorida.com/fr-s-inventory.aspx

315FR-S 05-25-2012 01:27 AM

so thats it then. dealers will be the scourge of this car. lets make a car thats fun and affordable! actually. lets just make a car thats fun that people want! and then we'll charge way too much. and not sell any. and then we can stop making it. because we didnt sell enough but we cant figure out why. yay

blackmr2 05-25-2012 01:28 AM

i havent confirmed it yet but supposedly keith pierson toyota has a white one for 37500.00 before ttl couldnt exactly understand the guy on the phone but i think it' possibly was one of the first 86 and then the guy changed his mind on the color when it arrived and ordered a different one. may go by after work and see if it's true. otherwise the other dealer in town is adding 5000.00 for market adjustment.

CSSM 05-25-2012 01:46 AM

Holy hell

for 34k I would get a different car..
