FT-86 to be released as a SCION??
Hey everybody im new here and this is my first post but i would like to share with you the information given to me from the future brand manager for scion Canada john scott when i asked him if they offer cash rebates and the ft-86 release and this is what he had to say....
Hello, Toyota does offer rebates on cash purchases on certain vehicles. The FT-86 is a concept vehicle that would probably come out under the Scion brand name not Toyota. The Scion brand is coming to Canada this September 28th. With it comes the TC coup which is in direct competition with the Genesis coup. The Tc is made by Toyota in Japan and is one of the most popular vehicle in the US . Moreover, it has won the Kelly blue book award for best resale value 3 years in a row and has been redesigned for the 2011 .In addition, we think it will come out with a price of $21,000 to $22,000 ( which will be extreamly competitive), but we don’t have any prices as of yet. If you’d like more info concerning this or any other model please feel free to contact me, or you can check out my fan page on facebook under the name Spinelli Scion. My very best regards, John Scott Future Brand Manager for scion. This doesn't convince me... I still think, it's gonna come out on Toyota
|
I looked it up. Scion IS coming to Canada! I doubt the FT/R-86/S will be a Scion though, as the 'future brand manager' thinks that the tC and Genesis are direct competitors (NA 4 cyl FWD Scion = Turbo 4 cyl or NA V6 RWD Hyundai??? Retard...) but still...
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Canadians have been deemed stupid enough to buy re-badged Toyotas, again... Seriously Toyota. Just kill it already. Expanding to Canada isn't going to create a magic amount of sales for that over-marketed brand. |
I really hope this is not true but i recently read some where that the ft-86 production model will be priced at around 16,000 usd, which is very scion like. I would like to add that the price mentioned in the original post is in canadian dollars so, again that seems to correlate with what was published recently about the ft-86's price.
I like the rest of you really really hope this is not true. |

My melodramatic 'no' wasn't about the car being a Scion. (NOT. GOING. TO. HAPPEN.)
But about the fact that Scion is expanding into Canada. Fucksakes... |
scion is coming to canada and the new tc is coming out in nov, but its not the ft-86. after a talk i had with jack hollis (scion vp), he made it clear that scion would have some new concepts, maybe new model to reveal later next year though (other than the iq). i highly doubt it would be the 86
|
I can see it now scion FR
|
I saw a post from a japanese mag where they said they're making a cheaper, smaller, hatch FR for 16k. I'm sure that's the one that will be scion. The FRS is going to be $25k for the bare base minimum.
|
Er... Canada can it as Scion badge, but The US doesn't want anything beside Toyota badge( maybe high end "LEXUS" make more sense).

I posted the same thread on ************* and WEST I think he is the main administrator and founder of ************* had to say this...
"Excellent find, and thanks for sharing! To the subject of his reply. I have a friend which is a regional Scion manager and he says the same thing, however he knows absolutely nothing about the FT-86 in comparison. He comes to me for information, I'm afraid Scion is working really hard to get the FT-86 released under the Scion brand, but it wont happen. The rumored price of 16k does fall within the Scion market, however bare in mind the FT-86 is currently being branded as Toyota to Japan, Europe, Asia, and Australia. I doubt they will release the same car as two brands, but alas we still have no official FT-86 debut within the in America/Canada; so be weary. It would surely be an idiotic move on Toyota's part to put such a staple throwback car under the Scion brand that is known for cheap economical boxes. I sure as hell don't want to drive a Scion, and if it happens; ill buy the Subaru. PS: Sorry I moved your post!" -WEST I think toyota needs to be warned if it is gonna go about doing this. Companies tend to listen to there customers; that is if they know what's for their own good:paddle:!! |

I don't think the ft-86 really fits into what most people think of when they think lexus. It's not designed around luxury, but performance, and it was even talked about having a track model with only bare-bones. Have you ever heard of a bare-bones lexus? |

Actually toyota will have more reason to panic :paddle: p.s if worst comes to worst i'll just happily go with subaru 216A since it's going to look exactly the same aside from the grille, badging, headlight and taillight assemblies and some other minor aesthetics because, i just don't see myself buying a scion. |

I dont understand all the scion hate. If Scion is to ever come out of its Eco-box ricer POS persona, They are going to need a car that will push them through that barrier. Something that will possibly be a legend. The FT could maybe be that car. I would hate to hear you guys bitch if scion were to announce the next Supra would be under a scion badge. I still would prefer Toyota. |
:sigh:-on........that's funny hehe

The problem is they don't want to create a legendary car to push through. They want a legendary marketing campaign. This company is the interpretation of what an enthusiast company is except it's been created by marketing douchebags and accountants that have no real clue what an actual enthusiast is. Re-bodied Toyota NASCAR racer as a Scion Formula D entry? Give me a break. Am I supposed to go run out and buy a FWD tC to be like Tanner Foust after watching him race? "Duh gee, why can't I smoke the rear tires?" Fuck marketing douchebags. And fuck Scion. PS: That's not even funny about the Supra.:mad0260: |

How about this: "Why can't I get a 2JZGTE in my tC, like the Titan Motorsports tC funny car has?"
Fuck Scion. |

Scion has potential. I think it can be saved. Just needs the right car. The FT-86 nor the Supra isn't it though. Something on the FT-86 platform though? http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=324 Quote:
Scion doesn't go after the enthusiast, it goes after the "hip" crowd, and while I am no fan, the have garnered quite an enthusiast base and they have done some fucking amazing things with the AZ engine platform. Fuck the product planners and marketers behind Scion. |
Here's some more baseless speculation just for discussion sake:
http://blogs.insideline.com/straight...-be-ft-86.html |

The other thing is these are factory-supported 'privateer' teams. Part of Scion's 'grass-roots' marketing blitz. "Look real racers are using Scions!" The teams that are using the AZ are using it because they were given it, and support for it. Not because they chose it. The Scion 'sport-compact' scene is completely corporate-driven and feels 'wrong'. It's all artificial. That is something about it that really rubs me the wrong way. Lexus was at least driven as much, if not more by the engineering and product. For example the cars people could actually buy. Ok so Foust's car isn't a full-blown NASCAR, it's just a RWD tC powered by a NASCAR V8. Still way closer to NASCAR than Scion. You get where I'm coming from anyways. Scion is a brand where they're trying to force it upon people instead of producing excellent product and letting people come to them. |

Hahahahah the $$$ are rolling in his eyes. Get you own car Jack. Scion mR perhaps? |
If this Scion clusterfuck happens, my LFA rant will look like I was worshiping it in comparison.
And I will hope to hell we get the Subaru version so I won't be forced to drive a fucking Scion... |
whats the difference, its the same company?? its not like your comparing pepsi and coke here its comparing mars and snickers (mars being toyota cus its better :p and it owns snickers and i like mars more)
im hungry |
No, but it's like Coke and Coke zero. One's been around a long time and is awesome, the other is new and hip, but taste like crap.
Dimmam: I like your sig lol :) |
If you're serious and don't want toyota to release the ft-86 as a scion but just as a toyota then let them know what you want and let our voices be heard all the way to corporate. They work for us!!

They don't have a fuckin' e-mail system? Why would I send them a letter that would probably get lost on someones desk, or in the filing system -- and why would I waste my money on a long distance phone call?
They have to have an e-mail address somewhere available for us. Quote:

I just read through the article for the first time... I would prefer the car to come out as a Toyota but as long as it keeps the looks, performance, and price tag I don't care too much if it'll be Toyota, Scion, or even Lexus... You can always remove or get the badges of your choice, hopefully the holes line up if there are any

If this car comes out as a Scion that means that Marketing has more influence on development than Engineering. This would set a bad precedent for performance development, where it would become more important for people to BELIEVE in performance than for the car to REALLY perform. They are trying to create the belief that Scion is a performance brand, by using cars that are completely different to what they actually sell, beyond having the same name. Who knows how they justify this? "People don't ACTUALLY want to drift. It's just cool to watch and be part of the scene, so people will still buy tC's" I don't know... The brand itself is a poser when it comes to performance, and I have no interest in supporting that. If they start muscling in on what start off as REAL performance cars, who knows what damage they could cause: "Well, since people only want a car that LOOKS fast, we can add in some power seats, full glass panel sunroof, and not bother wasting engineering resources on performance. Better raise it so people don't have to slow down for speed bumps, and soften the suspension for comfort. Now more people will buy it, because it's more like a Camry, and lots of people buy Camrys!" |
