215 wide tire on 8.25 wide rim question
From everything Im seeing, 215 wide tires will fit onto a set of 8.25 wide rims. My question is will this still be ok for auto crossing/tracking my car? What kind of difference in handling characteristic might I expect by running this setup? The rims I went with are XXR 530 17x8.25 +35. I still have quite a bit of life left in my Michelin PSSs that are currently on my stock wheels. I want to swap them over and use them up before I drop more money and go wider.

215 should fit a 8.25. It'll be streched, but should be fine. I'm putting 215/45 on my 9" wide wheels. My brother has the same setup on his skyline.

Where do you get eight-and-a-quarter inch wide wheels?

it's borderline... I wouldn't recommend it, but you'll probably be fine.

There will be no stretch at all, don't know why people are saying that it is borderline or a stretch at all.

I did it. Same wheels, just with a +25 offset.
A few thousand miles on the street and multiple drift events. I had no issues whatsoever. Had a very very small stretch. |
^ Same, no issues at all. Drifted, Canyon runs, 60 mile commute. Nothing wrong.

Well I decided to just go with some wider tires anyway lol. My wallet hurts but Im happy with my decision. Hankook Ventus R-S3 245/45-17. Cant wait to autox now!

I've seen people put the stock tires on 17x9 RPF1's. It looks stupid and is probably unsafe although some claim its fine. Always better to go meaty in my opinion. Not really the optimum fit for auto-x.
