Skoodges Whiteout (AT)FR-S
So I got the call today and was told to haul ass to the dealer to get to it. Sure enough when I got there (after 10 minutes of solid ass hauling) there was a huge crowd of people that had assembled. Luckily I had been to the dealer already and had my car appraised and was ahead of everyone else. So in the end I beat everyone to it, traded in my 2011 v6 Premium Mustang and took her home (after what seemed like hours). The initial test drive with the dealer rep was awesome, my family had done business with the salesman before he worked at this Toyota so we chose to work with him. It was his first week at Toyota, and thusly I was his first car ever sold, an FR-S even. The whole thing felt very cool and when I drove it off the lot it was memorable. It'd be nice to have gotten some of the swag the first 86's got but I'm not picky and I don't really mind. But for now, here's some low-res pics taken with my iPhone, later this week or early next I will hopefully have some nice pictures taken and a review written up. I will say that I am absolutely stunned by the performance of the car.[I found myself stunned when I was doing 80 on the interstate and didn't realize it because the car felt so sturdy and planted]

Congrats!
Soo many whiteouts lol! How do you find the AT? Was your mustang auto too? If so, how do the transmissions feel? Thanks and enjoy! |

If you don't mind me asking, did you pay MSRP?
I have heard bad things about Florida dealers.... |

Enjoy it! Don't forget to give us all your impressions a week or two down the road! |
Sunshine State? So I assume this is Miami, but idk due to blue shirt uni...
|
Congrats on the new FR-S and welcome from another Florida owner. I pulled the same move and went from muscle to tuner. I had a 2011 Dodge Challenger SE V6. No regrets though I can tell you that much. Enjoy the ride and nice color option!
|
I like the pic next to the Tundra. I DD a Tundra now, and it's going to be a dramatic change.
|
Congrats !
Could you provide some key points review about the 86 ride over the muscle Mustang v6? |

Well it seems everyone is going with White. At any rate, it looks beautiful. |
I'll be going for a two-tone design with carbon fiber being the second tone, Cf mirrors, side inserts, and spoiler to start
|
Congratz! Iv been having a nightmare trying to find a well priced whiteout 6 speed in south Florida. What part of Florida did you find this one?
|
agh, thanks for not paying MSRP -- now every clown in Florida KNOWS they can charge 32k for this 24k car.
Although I do hope 2 things: 1- it was worth it 2- you have lots of fun with the car because its incredible. |
|
Ima have to drive one from the center of the states and enjoy the ride home! lol
|
yes yes and yes!!! looks amazing! congrats!
|
 Congrats!
What didn't you like about the 2011 stang? Main reason or several reasons. I'm not stang fan, just wondering. I have my FRS on preorder. Mid June it should be here. You made the right choice:party0030: |

Also, I'm editing some photos I took today and will be posting shortly with the photos and with some more impressions and what not. |

I'll break it down into a few key categories. POWER: At the low end, neither the mustang nor the 86 are truly stunning. While the stang boasts a sub-6-second 0-60, in reality (especially with the AT) it's easily over 6 and a half seconds, add in amateur driver lack of ability to not spin tires and launch properly and you're over 7 seconds. The 86 is entirely different though. While its torque doesn't really kick in until 4k RPM it still launches fantastically, even with all of the traction/assists off. It doesn't want to spend and it results in a great launch every time, whether in D(rive) or M(anual). The get up and go is quick in 1st and second, but power lacks in the early stages of 3rd gear. But this car isn't about power it's about. . . HANDLING: This is where the 86 absolutely kills the stang. I won't go too into detail cause I want to keep this short 'cause it just simply is magnificent. I'll start with the mustang again. The stang has MASSIVE amounts of body roll, even on the slightest turns you'll find yourself digging into the side of the car. On tighter curves and at higher speeds the roll is just about ridiculous. As for grip in the curves the mustang will lose its rear-end very easily, and not in the good way that the 86 does. The stang will kick out its rear-end at the very worse times, whether in intersections or just off ramps, even at low speeds. This is very dangerous as when the stang has its rear out, it's very wild and uncontrollable. The stang's rear end is absolutely heavy and where it goes it takes the car with it. The worst part of kicking out the rear in the stang is that when you come out of the (not really)drift the body will snap back to the other side and then back again from momentum and if you don't know what you're doing you'll lose the rear end all over again. So much for keeping it short, haha. The 86 is lightyears ahead of the stang here. The 86 has minimal to no body roll, there's a great 7 mile road where I live with some very very tight corners (the kind where the signs read: CAUTION, 20 MPH). The 86, unlike the stang, has no problem taking these turns at ridiculous speeds, my fastest speed run being at a constant 75 mph, and only dipping below 60 for the tightest of all of the curves. Another thing between the stang and 86 is that the mustang feels like it's going fast. As it's much heavier you feel much heavier and therefore faster. 100 MPH in the mustang felt like 100 MPH. In the 86, I find myself time and time again saying "Oh, Shit!" and having to slow down as 65 feels like 40 and 100 feels like 65. I attribute this to the sturdy suspension and just the great ride quality. BUILD QUALITY: This time I will keep it short and simple. The stang feels American in its build quality, and not the 1940's industrial machine, world power, sturdy built American, I mean 1990's "we get everything form China" American. The knobs and interior felt plastic and cheap and flimsy. Everything felt like it could break easily. The 86 however feels incredibly well built. Yes the aircon controls and the radio look cheap but they're so well built! I have no gripes with them whatsoever. Everything feels sturdy and like it's going to last. Now for some pictures! (Hope you enjoyed the read) Some external shots . . . http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/...S/IMG_0656.jpg http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/...S/IMG_0659.jpg This was taken at night, sorry for the grain. http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/...S/IMG_0665.jpg Amateur car photography angles! Internal shots http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/...S/IMG_0638.jpg This came out a little blurry. http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/...S/IMG_0640.jpg A nice side shot with racked focus. http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/...S/IMG_0642.jpg Wonder why there's a "SAT" under the AM button. . . http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/...S/IMG_0639.jpg Really love the leather around the shifter even though it's automatic. http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/...S/IMG_0641.jpg This cup holder is perfect, I almost always take a bottle of water with me wherever I go and it's so convenient to have it right there as the one in the center is staggered back a little from the main center column. http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/...S/IMG_0645.jpg There's a surprising amount of room in the glovebox. http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/...S/IMG_0651.jpg Here you can see my barefoot (I never drive with shoes, I feel like I don't have enough control if I do have shoes on) http://i1078.photobucket.com/albums/...S/IMG_0652.jpg |
Awesome man! Thanks for the review and the pictures. I thoroughly enjoyed it!!

Congrats!
Looking at the instrument panel, I love how driving around town the speedo is basically pointed straight down. |
Can't you get a ticket for driving without shoes?

:thanks: very much for the detailed comparisons of the FRS to the 6 cylinder Mustang. I've read many comparisons to the stang from the media. It's good to hear a comparison from an actual Stang owner. I would never own a Mustang even a 8 cylinder one. I would rather own a Corvette. At this point in my life, I need a FR-S, Sports Car fun but good gas milage as a Daily Driver.
:happy0180: |
Awesome, thanks for the review! Nice car!
|
on the driving with no shoes -- id rather ANYONE drive barefoot rather than drive with flip flops/sandals/etc on. Bad things can happen if your sandal device of choice gets lodges somewhere stupid or slips off, etc.
|
Congrats man and I just picked mine up today whiteout,MT I love how the car drives, not crazy about the subaru engine but I guess i will have to get used to it.

Awesome read thanks!!
Any review of the backseat ahaha! I also am the opposite of you regarding the shoes... If I drive bare feet I feel like my feet are going to slide off the pedals and what not. Each to their own. |

So tonight I went to a local meet up of street racers/car enthusiasts with a friend. Sadly it was spure of the moment so I didn't have time to detail the car. But that didn't keep people from going crazy over it. I didn't really think about it, and I suppose I should have, but I basically ended up spending the whole meet showcasing the car to tons of people. Even pulling up almost everyone (there was at least 200 people there) was turning their heads. This car is a real crowd pleaser. After what seemed like forever of telling people about it and showing it the president of a Florida based (recently one that moved to my city) auto club called Mecha Auto came to introduce himself to me. I was invited to join said group and I'm going to as they seem very well established. They have over 200 members, have been featured in photoshoots for many magazines, organize plenty of car shows and meet ups all over Florida. I'll be the first person with an 86 in the group. The president himself has a BRZ on order (in WRB) that will be here in early June. Kind of cool, a senior member with a blue BRZ, and me just entering the club with an 86. Anyways, I made sure to take plenty of pictures so here goes:
