Toyota "T" Formed Aluminum Steering Wheel Airbag Emblem - Overlay VS Replacement
Hi Fellow 86'ers!
Sorry I needed to start a new thread. But, I need to take a poll and cannot add/edit a poll into my existing thread. I am in comms with Loden about this possible future Toyota "T" Formed-Aluminum Epoxy-Cleared emblem badge for the Scion FR-S in this thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67840 I need to take a poll to see which would sell more and which is more desired: 1. An "Overlay" - same exact size as the current Loden "86" emblem, which is slightly bigger than the recess/hole in the airbag; BUT, otherwise fits perfectly over the oem Scion badge as it was designed and intended to be used..as an "Overlay." 2. A direct "Replacement" - this would be the exact same size as the oem Scion badge(and slightly smaller than the current Loden "86" "overlay" emblem), which will fit perfectly inside the recess/hole in the airbag; BUT requires you to remove the oem Scion badge. Thanks |
Do it! its the last piece of my puzzle! Can't wait any longer!!
|
If it was my my choice, I'd pick the "Replacement" ;)
...but, it's Loden's decision. We'll see what happens. |
Dont like the idea of emblem "pooching" out so I'd only go with a replacement.

I'm in

Replacement FTW! I would prefer a genuine Toyota Emblem. The 86 emblem would suffice if that is what will be offered.
|
Is the emblem on the current airbag even replaceable? I've never taken it off but I assumed once off it could never be placed back on correctly. If that's not the case, replacement preferred. If you can't revert once done, I'd say overlay.

We are leaning towards more something like this right?

These are actually 3-D and coated as opposed to the flat printed one from the Prius. Much better quality but don't know if Loden can do these...and the cost may be prohibitive in a small run.
This one looks like it would have to have the "hole" in the airbag cleared out to sit down inside the space. But I'd much rather have this one if it was available. Second choice the flat printed version. |

This is the only place I can find them. http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Toyot...583166971.html Anyone wanna verify the size for fitment? |

Actually, if you look more closely (at the edges of the chrome emblem, of the Prius), the Prius ones are the same...so I guess the Prius ones are actually 3d...but a "flat" "T" and not the usual diamond/angular "T" ..if that made sense. Thanks for the pic...exactly what needs to be made :) And, Loden can make those too :) . |
UPDATE:
Loden tells me (if they will make this Toyota “T” emblem in 2-3 months) that they will only independently make it as an “Overlay” (ie: same exact size as the current “86” Loden emblem, that Cannot fit inside the recess/hole, and is NOT a full direct replacement. :( ….unless of course, we can convince them otherwise (more votes in the Poll please :)), OR, if someone is willing to fully invest in producing it. Additionally…. In order to make the more desired “Replacement”…it would require a 3rd party full investor, because they are not willing to carry this out independently (since they do not want, and actually discourage, making a “full replacement”…so making a “full replacement” will require someone to invest in full cost of production) So, if you guys now any frs companies or car shops (or rich individuals, hehe) that may be interested in investing in this “full replacement” emblem idea…. please @hashtag them to this thread, message them, pm them or let them know somehow. Quoted: "New production runs have an MOQ of x1000pc + mold/tooling charges. It's not inexpensive. Any production requires a substantial investment which is normally reserved for OE accounts or large retailers. Although the Loden brand name is fairly new, we have been in the rebadging business for over a decade. In our experience, the vast majority of customers want nothing to do with removing the steering wheel emblem (for obvious safety reasons). Therefore, we would discourage anyone from producing a full replacement steering wheel emblem. Best Regards, Loden Emblems" ----- "Good morning. Thanks for the feedback. Regarding a full replacement emblem. This could be produced very easily in low production QTY from our laser cut stainless steel / polished material. However, to replicate the OE badge ABS / mass production would be best. 2D aluminum w/ epoxy coating is also an option. However, neither of these projects is something we would carry-out independently. Either would require a 3rd party to invest fully. We will check your poll thread at a later time to evaluate interest of the overlay T. Best Regards, Loden Emblems " |
Maybe we should be contacting china .. aren't they the masters of replicas?

Anybody who orders/gets this..please post pics :)
...I love how it looks much more low-profile and flatter, as compared to the "86" emblem which looks a bit bulgy and pokes out too much. |
Any pictures of this actually installed?
|
I just bought one. We'll see what happens. Thanks for the link!
|
Updates???
|
Ya...I'd like to see 3rd party pics of it too.
Also wish the company/person that got the idea from me and made these sent me a little money, royalties or something lol. |
Anything yet?

Sounds about right. I can't wait to read your impressions. The steering wheel rebadging is the only thing holding me back. I'm not happy with the current solutions out there. Tons of pictures would be appreciated! |
Alright here you guys go. First impression. Light and thin. Made of aluminum. Plastic covering. This is an overlay, not a replacement. As you can see in the pics, slightly bigger than the scion emblem. Fits firmly on top, had to use a little force ..honked the horn. Fits snugly just using the 3m tape, peeled the plastic, looks great imo. Worth $33 for a piece of aluminum? Definitely not, but what other choices do we have out there. I personally love it. The T symbol is ridged, not smooth and not covered in glass. Let me know if you guys have any other questions.
