Looks like the road to my FR-S is over.
Just a day after i got my paper work with my Vin # i got a call from a buddy. He works at another Autoway and said they got a 2008 Acura TL Type S in on trade. I tolled him i was already got my Vin # for the FR-S and it was basically a done deal. Next thing he said was "you have to come look at this car" just to amuse him i said id come down and look at it. Now the Type S TL is one of if not my favorite 4 door car. Its sleek, sexy and LOADED with features. So i drove down to look at the car not thinking im getting this thing at all. Well the car is MINT like off the show room floor clean. So i talk to the used car manager who i knew from a few chats in the past. He tells me it has not gone threw inspection yet but if i want the car we could start doing the paper work and see what he could do. Well i got approved for the car put a down payment on it (-500 that's still on the FR-S) and just waiting for it to go threw inspection (oil change, tire pressure, filters the basics) and detail.
Now 2 years prior i almost got a 2007 TL Type S. I test drove the car filled out all the paper work had the KEYS in my hand and was ready to drive off the lot. Next thing i know the lender calls back and says "despite my greatest effort i have to withdraw are previous agreement" his reasoning was i did not have established credit. Despite paying off and never having a late payment on my previous car at the time. Needless to say i was PISSED! So i believe this will be the end to my FR-S journey sad to say. It wasn't a easy decision but iv been wanting a Type S TL for years now and i got it. I'm happy with what i got i know its a BIG jump from a FR-S. Its got every feature you can think of - a 6spd MT. I still love the FR-S and always will its amazing car. So most likely il still creep around the forums lol. |
Let me google that 2008 Acura TL Type S. Be back in a minute. :)
How much you paying for it? |
The TL Type S is a great car, congrats and enjoy :)
|
I've always thought that year TL type S was a beautiful car. Congrats!
|

I just sold an 07 Type S back in March. I enjoyed that car, but to me, it's far too disconnected from the road. The handling was decent, but the torque steer on the car was just atrocious. It's a great looking car, but in the end, I was disappointed in how it drove.
Compared to the Miata I'm currently driving, it's like driving a Cadillac...with a 6speed manual. No more than 3 weeks after I sold it, the new owner totaled it. :( Hopefully you'll have a different mind set than I did about the car. Good luck! |
You wont be disappointed.
I have a 04 TL *base*, Upgraded EVERYTHING other then the motor(oh it has a intake 'ooooooohh', not really). just turned 180k on her, and is still running like a champ. have the simple weight reduction mods done, and other DIY items. I love it to death, BUT i might trade her in for a FR-S, just because my wife just got a 08 Toyota Urban 4runner for our dog so. As for the TL, I did plan on taking it on the track but time has really not been there to do so. You will not be disappointed with that 3.5 inside, and lets just hope you got Gun Metal Grey ;) If you want to know anything else, or just "tips and tricks" shoot me a message. Acurazine.com is your best friend now, spent hours on there. |
Congrats on the TL-S! That's a solid and handsome car. After my V6-6 Accord was deemed a total loss, I was in the market for a replacement and the TL-S was the next logical step. Unfortunately, they held their value VERY well and I couldn't justify the price tag for one. To top it off, the TL-S drove like my Accord with some mods in everyday situations. Of course, an Accord will never be a TL-S, but it wasn't worth nearly $13k more for essentially being the same car on steroids, IMO.

Thx every 1 for the comnets everybody on this forums is great. I feel like im betraying every 1 lol. I was all ready for a RWD sports cars and i got a FWD luxary car :bonk:

Lets just say I can compete with M3's here in the mountains with my basic 3.2l. Its all about having the right components, and my ride quality didn't go down the shitter as well. |
Cool story bro.
Not really. |

I'm not really sure how choosing luxury over sport warrants a life failure, but different strokes for different blokes I guess.

Seriously though, glad you found something you like. If it inspires you, that's the important thing. :w00t: |
Did you ever get to test drive an FR-S/BRZ so you know what you're missing?

Congrats. That generation was the last TL generation not "blessed" with the silver beak.
|
It's two different cars! But congrats on the 2008 TL! Luxury is nice :D
|
I've driven that same car on several occasions. Great car! Very different from the FR-S though. Pay it off in two years, then you'll have a car with equity in it for trade on the 2015 FR-S SC Release Edition.
Don't feel bad about us... You just added yours back into the pool. Maybe I'll get mine sooner! Well, probably not. Anyway, enjoy your Acura. It s a sweet car too. Be excited about it.. |
Drive that TL-S for a couple of years - it has a great engine - and then step UP to an FR-S.
|
interesting car forsure... that's weirder than me getting a mustang haha.
You sure you want front wheel drive? I never liked any front wheel drive cars ESPECIALLY heavy 4-doors. The TL-S is probably one of the only ones I'd consider in that category though. If it's your dream car, then no point in listening to the haters, just have an eye for a used FR-S in the future bro! Enjoy and drive safe! |
I love Acuras/Hondas, Ive owned nothing but my entire life, but I have to agree with 2pt5RS. Its way too disconnected. The DBW is horrendous and its heavy. Its got decent power though and I will say it is the last of the good looking Acuras.
Good luck with it, the J is a beast of an engine with the right mods. Most are putting down ~290whp with bolt ons. Check out AcuraZine if you do get it. I use the same user name there  |
Man I'm sad. You are quite active here and I would think you would be near last on the list to execute such a move...but hey as long as you're happy then it don't matter.. Have fun sipping on latte's while driving your TL to pick up Ms Daisy :D
|
ahhhhhhhhhh why oh why man...i was really apreciate your presence here, oh well, at least you have some toy in your hand to have fun now. hehe
|
Good for you, man! I've always been a fan of the TL Type S. my uncle has one and I drool over it every time I see it. Enjoy it!
|
An 07-08 TLS was one of my backup options if I decided against the frs/brz :) great find!

It's definitely not the same kind of car as an frs but that doesn't make it bad. |
edit: never mind looks i got one :)

Not going to lie. Coming from a previous TL-S owner. Your future TL Type S is faster than the FR-S or BRZ. That is a 280hp V6 vs a 200hp flat 4. TL has much more torque than the FRS or BRZ. On the street the TL was a blast to drive. Passing people on the freeway was easy. I had the 6 speed version though.
On the circuit track it's likely a different story but in a straight line the TL still is much faster than the BRZ or FRS. Plus the luxury of the TL-S is much better than the FRS or BRZ. They are very different cars though. One is a luxury performance car and the other is a lightweight sports coupe. There is no luxury on the FRS or BRZ lol. I think the biggest disadvantage of the TL is the fact that it's FWD. Reason why I sold it for the S2000. For a Honda though it's got a good amount of torque. And that thing was pretty damn reliable. I wouldn't say the TL-S is a downgrade. It's an older audience car. You will get a different vibe driving a TL-S over a FRS or BRZ. The FRS and BRZ is the new young boy tuner car. The TL-S is a luxury accord lol. The TL-S competes with the G35 and IS250 and BMW 3 series. The BRZ and FRS competes with the Genesis, Mustang, Miata, S2000, Civic, you get the point.. |
From a econo sports car to a luxury sedan if that makes you happy. congrats! Sounds like you got a good deal.
We won't be seeing you at the FRS/BRZ conventions. Your loss! |
