Long trips in BRZ? Yes, its possible and fun ;)

Hi guys,

Yesterday I arrived to Le Mans from my home.. 1456km, 16 hours including traffic jam in Paris and Le Mans..

I was driving with my mate from 4am to 8pm. I was really afraid of this, but its was really cool.. I really love this car.. Now 24 hours Le Mans and back to home at Monday ;)

On the other hand, I didnt see any other toybaru on the way or even here at Le Mans :(

Best

Roarke

Oh yeah it is. I drove from Dover, DE to Las Vegas, NV in mine, about 2600 miles. Never had any complaints.

Enjoy Le Mans!

I drive from San Francisco to Santa Barbara, 345 miles - 555km every friday.

get up at 4 am, work from 5:30 am to 3 pm, hope in my Brz and drive. I love the BRZ, real comfy, quite ride compared to my last car, very fuel efficient.

This is good to hear, since I'll be picking up my new BRZ in Colorado next month and driving it 1600 miles home. In my test drive, I loved the seat and driving position, so I don't foresee any problems from those. But I was concerned that the cabin noise (both from road and engine noise) might get old after a while on the interstate.

gramicci101 06-13-2014 05:12 PM

I had my radio cranked the whole time, so I couldn't really tell you.

I will say: take the 12v accessory plug out of the glovebox. Then crawl down into the passenger footwell and peel the carpet back a bit; you'll see a hole through the firewall. That's the sound tube. Stick the plug into the hole.

The sound tube transmits intake noise into the cabin for a more aggressive/racey sound. Which is fine, if you're being aggressive and racey. If you're doing a 1600 mile road trip, it'll probably get tiring. Once you get to where you're going you can decide if you want to leave it in there or not.

Interesting that this precise subject came up in the most recent video review by the dudes at Everyday Driver, who did a Subaru shoot-out comparing the BRZ and the 2015 WRX on Southern California canyon roads:

http://everydaydriver.com/episodes/t...on-wrx-or-brz/

Their conclusion: they loved the BRZ on the curves, but preferred the WRX as a DD. Not surprising (or disappointing) to me, since I'm not buying a BRZ for its ability to sit in traffic at a stoplight.

It wasn't bad to you? Not knocking the BRZ, It's by far my favorite vehicle I've owned. I'm only 23 and I drive an hour to school and back a few times a week. I must say once I get to school or once I get home. My back is killing me. Thinking about getting a pillow to put between the seat and my back.

FloridaBRZ 06-13-2014 09:15 PM

I bought my BRZ as a wedding present to myself. Drove from Venice Florida to new Orleans on my honeymoon. Was a great ride. Comfy seats, nice nav system, only problem was for my wife. E-brake kept stabbing her in the chest. If you get my drift.

I drive long distances every week in this car. The third day I had it, I drove it twelve hours. I was in it for three hours just today and have a five hour drive Monday.

My lower back gets stiff sometimes, but I just stretch it. I might try a lumbar support though, now that you mentioned the pillow.

But a bigger issue for me is the effect of the stiff ride on my bladder. In a smoother riding car, I can go a lot longer between rest stops. But when I have to go, EVERY bump in this car is magnified.

Haha yeah, I'm on coilovers, so my ride is twice as bumpier. I just remember not to have any drinks in the car. I can have a memory foam type pillow made. So i'm considering that option

I'll see your coilovers and raise you the fact that I live and work all throughout Louisiana.

I would like to be able to lower or modify my suspension, but if I did I wouldn't be able to drive this car any more on these terrible roads. This is why my other car is a Jeep.

Drove 12 hours straight in my BRZ on 2 occasions.. noise & comfort wasn't an issue for me, and I have intake/headers/over-front pipes. Hope to be able to take my car cross country on a 3-day trip one day :D

:D this is Michigan as well. My coworker in his Focus ST just had $1400 in damage from a single road 2 weeks ago. Surprised he said no damaged tie rods or anything.. but 3 bent rims.

I did an 8 hour roundtrip to Chicago a few weeks ago, and it was a joy. Surprised my back never hurt at all and I was never uncomfortable. I love the seats.

This appears to be North Central, Texas too. Everything is under construction and a mess. It's really horrid. Was going to lower, but now I'm thinking it'll be more hassle than I'd really like to deal with.

Steege 06-16-2014 06:42 AM

On my way home from a trip, I marathoned from Denver to Huntington Beach. I felt the seats could use a tad more lower back support, but otherwise, it was a great drive. I even managed to average over 30mpg, despite lots of spirited driving, and 90mph cruising (where the speed limit was 80... >_>)

Shedd22 06-16-2014 10:21 AM

Just did an 800 mile trip from Ohio to where I grew up in NY. I have a Perrin exhaust and inlet on my car. Noise wasn't an issue and my back was fine the entire ride..granted I'm only 23 so that might be why my back was fine...

BRZnut 06-16-2014 08:16 PM

have done many 6-12 hr trips each way in our BRZ, and just came back from Watertown NY this past weekend. The BRZ is a great comfortable sports car, unless the roads are bad. Otherwise no issues with the seats, get 41-42 mpg, and have plenty of power when needing to pass or get out of near crash situations.

Only issue was took a corner too fast to avoid a huge motor home that was coming into my lane (its true..other drives do not see us) and hurt my wifes neck from the g forces!

hory shet!

Automatic or manual? Only way I'd get that is if I rolled downhill with the engine shutoff for a significant portion of the trip.

woode 06-16-2014 09:06 PM

I recently drove from NJ to Dallas, TX and back and then down to MD. Straight shots each way (~25 hours). Pretty comfortable for the most part, I prefer the slightly rigid seats for long trips vs more cushy seats. My wife's old Lexus had super "comfortable" seats, but after an hour or so I found them to be too cushy and actually hurt my back.

Auto , and I did the calculation myself to check the trip computer. Off by only .5 mpg. This thing is like having a hybrid or a diesel!

PA checking in. The highways aren't too bad, but anything inner city is a nightmare. There are roads in my area that I have to avoid and take a detour around because they're too rough. And even the detours aren't all that great.

Planning on driving from Chicago to Deals Gap TN in just under a month. It's just my buddy and I. The plan is to leave the rear seats folded down so we can have access to coolers and stuff. Longest I've driven til now in the BRZ is 5 hours and at the end of that I wasn't even close to fatigued. This is going to be a cake walk. Very excited!

swaq 06-19-2014 11:36 AM

My wife and I drove our BRZ from Tucson to Portland and back. Approximately 3,000 miles total. Longest day of driving was about 880 miles. We averaged a little over 31 mpg (manual transmission).

My wife and I also did the same trip in our Legacy GT without stopping to sleep... Over 20 hours of driving. The Legacy definitely has a softer ride but I think the seats are a bit more comfortable in the BRZ.

thebus 06-19-2014 08:53 PM

Morristown NJ to Key West FL and back 5 days great ride... I have muffler delete was a bit annoying at anything less than 2.7k

cparr350 06-19-2014 08:56 PM

I drove my stock brz from atlanta to Austin gc and back with no problem

Dohvak 06-23-2014 12:39 PM

Wife and I drove my BRZ from WA to northern CA along 101 (coastal hwy), and back. Put 3k miles on it in 4 days, just after I bought it. By far my favorite driving car - including miatas, STi WRX, and such. Made 34 mpg average for the trip. My only problem is I really think the car wants another 30-50 bhp. I did disable the sound tube through firewall.
