Serial of 8000 manufacturing date...

Can people with a serial around 8000 (say between 7700 and 8300) give their production date as shown on the plate in the door frame ("MFD IN" frame) ?

I'm still trying to figure out the production date of mine and I figure all Sion/BRZ/Toyota have sequential serial numbers as they are all produced in the same plant.

Thanks for your info and help!

You don't have a sticker in your car with the production date on it? I have one in mine.

ZionsWrath 06-13-2014 12:26 PM

did you buy a stolen one with the vin plate cut out?

What stopping you from looking on your car?

Sorry I can't help my vin is like 800

OP's located in Europe, their VIN plate reporting is different than requirements in the US.

Oh, the vin plate is different in each country?

The more you know :bonk:

mav1178 06-13-2014 12:43 PM

Mine is ~7100 manufactured in Feb 2013.

Ours is standardized for FMVSS reporting purposes.

The date of manufacture is important for our DOT for some unknown legal purposes.

OP is the black picture.

The red one is provided by someone else as reference, not my picture. My car is white.

Did you try calling a subaru dealer and asking if they can look it up based on your vin?

phobos512 06-13-2014 02:14 PM

Maybe I'm stupid but in the black picture 2007/46 is the 46th week of 2007 so that's a pretty damn narrow window of time -much better than the Month/Year the US label gives you (I realize of course that's not a decal from a Twin in the black picture but it should be similar format?).

You can use this to find the dates for each week number (the link below goes direct to 2013):

Are you suggesting they made his car in 2007?!

No, the 2007/46 is part of the MINE Type (something used in france)... you can copy paste that full code into google and find it matches the Toyota GT86.

As said, the black one is mine, and the date does not appear, hence my question about approx serial 8000 because mine is around that. I suspect a manufacturing date around spring/summer 2013, but I'd like some way to confirm...I figure that asking you guys who have the dates on your plates could be a good way to fing out

I've already tried contacting Toyota France but they claim not to be technically able to tell me the manuf date from the vin.... I'm thinking of trying to call Toyota UK or Subaru France (the Subarus seem to have the serial start with a 6, like 6XXXXX, so the 6 is irelevant)

No, I thought that was just an example - it wasn't made clear in the original post that that was a live in person picture of the label on an 86. Thought it was just an example pic someone posted off of Google or something.

MY BAD folks. Jeez.

The official reason as stated in the law is to "provide the consumer with information to assist him or her in determining which of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards are applicable to the vehicle or item of vehicle equipment." It helps determine not only what safety equipment was required by federal law to be installed in the vehicle, but also what the emissions requirements were at the time the vehicle was made so that you can be sure to follow federal law when replacing your exhaust.

It's also there unofficially to keep people (dealers and private individuals) from trying to pass off the car as newer than it really is.

Thanks for this, this is what I'm looking for, can anyone else add to this reply so I can better determine (numbers around 8000, between 7000 and 9000).

Mine is close to 8000, I suspect it's built in spring/summer 2013. Your 7100 is february, so I'm probably looking at spring 2013 (May)? What do you think?

litemup 06-14-2014 02:10 AM

Bonjour, Harvey. Mine is 83nn DOM is 5/13.

OK, good, so 71XX is February and 83XX is May, so me with my 79XX will be around April, that will be good enough.

Anychance you can look at your rear seat belt and tell me the written date (mine is July 2012) and also your Michelin Primacy (mine are 2012) ?

Happily, sir. Rear seat belts manufactured March 2013.

Information on my tires would be inaccurate. Long story but I bought the car used and asked the dealer to replace the (old man's taste) gaudy aftermarket wheels with OEMs.

...ok, so the husband picked up the car for his wife who was out of town, and drove it for 1800 miles. She was furious when she saw it because she wanted the red one.

Ultramarine is gorgeous.

Silver Ignition 06-14-2014 02:15 PM

We can look up the build date at the dealership with Toyota's National Service History
mine is 6/26/13
