Further bringing the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary celebration to its fans, Capcom is currently organizing a series of tournaments throughout the year in locations across the globe that will include over $500,000 worth of cash, non-cash prizing, and amenities. This high-stakes tournament series will culminate in a grand finals event held in San Francisco on Dec. 8, 2012 and will include players who qualify in the preliminary tournaments throughout the year. The tournament series will feature the following monumental titles from the past and present: Street Fighter X Tekken, Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, Street Fighter III 3rd Strike Online Edition, and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix.

Revealed today, the list below includes the most current dates and locations (subject to change) for the Street Fighter 25th Anniversary global tournament series:

• July 28-29 in Austin, TX
• August 11-12 in the NY area (location pending)
• August 26 in Taipei, Taiwan (location pending)
• Mid-September in the Tokyo Region, Japan (date and location pending)
• September 27-30 in London, England (in conjunction with Eurogamer Expo)
• October 13-14 in Sao Paulo, Brazil (in conjunction with Brazil Game Show)
• October 27-28 in Los Angeles, CA
• October 31 – November 4 in Paris, France (in conjunction with Paris Games Week)
• December 8 Finals in San Francisco, CA

Adding an extra level of white-knuckled excitement to the competition, the first-place Street Fighter X Tekken player will be crowned champion and be handed the keys to an all-new custom designed Scion FR-S Sports Coupe. Capcom has partnered with Scion, Five Axis and Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA), to create a one-of-a-kind Street Fighter-themed sports car, complete with video entertainment hardware from SCEA and a modified exterior from Five Axis including a custom FIVE:AD aero kit, spoiler, wheels, as well as many more premiere components from leading automotive aftermarket companies.

Lastly, a new Street Fighter 25th Anniversary website will be created which will allow fans to share their stories of how the Street Fighter series has influenced their lives, and will host all details of the anniversary celebration including how to register for the tournament series. The new website will be released soon and will be located at: http://www.streetfighter.com/sf25.

The Street Fighter 25th Anniversary Collector’s Set carries an MSRP of $149.99.
I'm a competitive fighting game player so I keep up with this sort of news, but I was still pretty shocked to see the FR-S being a prize!

Bristecom 05-23-2012 05:46 PM

Heh, cool. The problem is, there are a lot of insanely good Street Fighter players out there. I know a couple guys who've played Street Fighter 4 almost every since it came out. They know every single move in the game.

A few years ago, I might have stood a chance (MvC2). Nowadays, I'd get mopped. Good luck to anyone who takes up the challenge!

ESBjiujitsu 05-23-2012 05:54 PM

I wish this was real street fighters lol.... I cant play video games well :( but i can break peoples limbs/choke people..... I guess thats not cool enough to win a FRS lol! I should of started learning video games way back when instead of practicing jiu jitsu lol.

Man, $500k to play games? What the hell was I doing going to college and working at my underpaid job that barely lets me afford the car itself?

Funny thing about that. I actually have a friend I went to high school with who makes good money by winning game tournaments. He just made another 10k a few weeks ago. It is possible but you have to be very talented and dedicated just like an any sport or career.

FakeWhiteMan 05-23-2012 10:25 PM

Hmmm I saw this on SRK today but didn't pay much attention to what car was being given away... And that's a pretty awful 25th anniversary collection... All of the games are easily available to everyone, and most of us competitive players(who this is primarily marketed to) already have them...

Dang Lad 05-23-2012 11:11 PM

That is crazy amazing!

dalli 05-24-2012 12:35 AM

do you have to buy the 25th ani thingy to get in?

or is there a sign up somewhere???

another question:

Do I have to play all the titles to compete in SFxTekken?

Or can i just practice SFxTekken and only take part in that part of the tourny?

Allch Chcar 05-24-2012 01:42 AM

Too bad I'm terrible at Street Fighter or Tekken or fighting games in general. D:

You sign up for the nearest tournament on the dates shown. So there's one in Dallas and one in LA those are the prelims. I'm sure anyone can join but its probably a 3 day gaming intensive match. Then it's off to SF for the big tournament.

You only have to play the SFxTekken. I'm not sure about the anniversary version but anyone who is really serious about the tournament would have already bought it (I'm sure Diago would probably win this year if he played).

I'll be in Las Vegas in July from the 6-9 for the Street Fighter tournament at the Belagio or Cesar's Palace. ;p Biggest tournament for SF5 (?) in the US and I think the pool was something around... 10k + your own arcade and bragging rights. Lol

M-17 05-24-2012 04:04 PM

Hmmm, I probably shouldn't even bother, I know I'll just lose. I just want to see the outcome of the Street Fighter themed FRS, cause is it worth it or will it be horrible? :iono:

Starscream15 05-24-2012 04:40 PM

Want to see how crazy it gets? This is an old video, I'm sure many have seen it but..

It's awesome.

So if i go to the one in NY in august, that is the prelim right? I wouldnt have to go to LA or dallas for that?

Im new to this, my friends have the games + sticks. I will practice and prolly enter with my friends. If i dont do good this week, i wont even bother.

Don't let this deter you from entering and having fun, but if your only going to start really playing now you stand no chance against top players...

I won't be attending evo but I can't wait for the stream. and I agree with sfxt being trash... I was all pumped for it but something about it is no bueno for me.

dori. 05-24-2012 09:22 PM

I find it funny how the game shipped with tons of glitches, and when it got patched, got worse. The Rolento knife thing is just dumb.

Whats really annoying is that were gonna have to pay for DLC characters because they have to do more work to get them and more time and blah blah blah and yet the Vitas version of sfxt has all of the dlc characters on it... They can't make a good excuse why they weren't on the console versions. I think even the frame data is the same...

There is no "work". Dunno if you missed that whole fiasco at release, but all of the "DLC characters" (in quotes for emphasis) were found to be on the disc shipped with the game. They were just locked so that Capcom can charge you money at a later date for them, on top of the $60 you pay for it new.

People with modded Xboxes were playing with the DLC characters the week the game came out.

So there is no excuse, except for greed.

O I know. They were gonna use the excuse of more work and time involved until people exposed them.

It's all fraudulent.

Giccin 06-06-2012 05:06 AM

SFxTekken.. Kinda weird since its on the SF mechanics.

I was watching my friend's play and they seem to be having slight difficulties with some of the skill patterns. Lol
