Factory Service Manual

Is the factory service manual available yet? I did some Googling and couldn't seem to find it. What I'd love is a hardcopy, or a way to purchase a legitimate PDF. I know they offer subscription services, but I'd rather just own it.

Thanks,
Brett

Yeah sign me up. I wont own the car for at least a year or two but I enjoy learning about engines.

do they even make hard copies anymore? my dad retired from nissan a few years ago and i believe he said everything was on the computer now. other manufacturers could be different.

ahausheer 06-05-2012 11:15 PM

It doesn't appear to available for download yet. The link on the website under ''whats new'': HTML Diagnostics 2013 BRZ Service Manual V0 May 11, 2012 [View PDF] *links to a blank page. Ill write Subaru and try to get my 40 bucks back.

dsgerbc 06-05-2012 11:49 PM

^Thanks for testing it out. Sucks it's not up yet.

Opie 06-06-2012 11:35 PM

Sorry about that, you are correct, the .pdf for the BRZ is NOT up yet...there is an html version but I think it is only available to dealers....I'll post again as soon as the .pdf is posted.

I've definitely seen hard copies of every year GD Impreza service manual, not sure about GH/GR/GV. Personally, I don't have enough space in the garage for a laptop/tool chest/speakers, so an electronic copy is less useful to me.

blalor 06-07-2012 07:04 AM

I spoke with the parts guy at my dealership a couple of days ago. They don't have a part number for them, yet, but they do expect a hard copy to be available.

For $200 to $300. :eyebulge:

I'm going to bug Bentley about making a manual for this car. They're about a mile from my house, so I might try to woo them in person (but, no, I will NOT let them disassemble my car!). If you want one, please ping them!

I saw some shots of the dash where the gear number displayed on the odometer/info read out. I thought this was only for AT's but the manual (pg 153) says that you can set MT's up to do it too. The instructions are pretty clear - hit the odo button 4 times - but i can't get it to work. All I can see is odo, trip A and trip B. No sign of the illusive fourth "gear" display.
Has anyone else tried this?

Sounds about right. You're surprised or something?

It does work, but the manual's wrong. I think the manual says the ignition needs to be in ON, but in fact you need to be in ACC. Possibly even off.

Yes. I think that sounds expensive.

You don't even need the key in the ignition - just unlock and open the door then press the ODO button. Dash and gauges will light up. Cycle through until G-OFF / G-ON come up then put it either on or off as you wish.

As for a physical paper manual, can't wait till one is available - have always bought the factory service manual for my vehicles.

:word: Just want to touch upon the above and add that when you cycle through the menu, you get to "G-OFF" as the default setting. You have to press and hold ODO until it turns to "G-ON".

+1 ... as long as it's not a crazy amount of money.

Can afford 28K car, can't afford $200 manual? They've always cost that much. It's a BIG printed book.

dsgerbc 06-09-2012 02:29 AM

What's the purpose of a paper-copy for a lot of dough? The PDF manual for my spec.b is on my home-server and I can access it from my tablet whenever I need it. And if I expect to need it - I have directly on my tablet.

The part where I said I don't have space in my man cave, er garage, and don't have a tablet either.

I fought with this yesterday. To set the Rev Beep/light the car needs to be in Accessory mode, then you press the Disp button and the extra options will show up. To set the Gear indicator and Tach sweep you need to have the car off and then press the ODO/Trip button a few times to cycle through the extra options.

The Gear indicator is not as nice as I hoped, as it only shows the gear once the clutch is fully engaged. This is good if you are on a long stretch of road and somehow forget what gear you are in. I had hoped that it would show what gate you were in before releasing the clutch to help prevent skipped gears due to unfamiliarity with the gearbox. It does show the shift up/down indicator though which is nice, as the car likes to be in a higher gear than I thought it would.

Still getting used to my first stick, but I love it!

Jeff Lange 06-09-2012 10:35 AM

It calculates the gear you are in based on vehicle speed to engine speed ratios. In order for it to tell which gear you were in before that, you'd have to have several sensors in the transmission or shifter to tell it.

I think it's cool it has it at all, as it's pretty unnecessary.

Jeff

This. I prefer paper over digital although I've never tried using a fsm on a tablet. Digital can work I'll just be doing a lot of printing.

Rejor11 06-10-2012 01:08 PM

Paper books FTW
