Worst Auto Trends.

Looking at DanZilla's signature it occurred to me that I did not know what 'Murdered Out' was. So after a quick Google search I was blown away to find forums dedicated to what I believe is the absolutely laziest and least creative car trend I've ever seen. I mean even the craziest, lamest ricers put more effort into their rides.

But entire forums dedicated to it???
"Dude, check out my murdered out ride, it's all black and tinted!'
"Wow that's awesome, now check mine out, it's all black and tinted!" "Awesome!"

That's got to be more boring than waiting for legit F/T/R-86/S news...

Anyways, anyone else care to vent about their least favorite auto trends?

JDMitch 07-26-2010 08:29 AM

'Hellaflush" is pretty up there just because it is so impossibly impractical::

Siriusly.Andrew 07-26-2010 02:35 PM

Yeah, theres something about "hellaflush" that just doesn't look right. Something about fashion > function really gets to me, if it looks great while it performs, then hell yeah, but don't make a nice car fugly and reduce its automotive potential.

Its on my quirks list. Though I have seen some really nice looking cars. I would just rather have seen it on the track "melting face" or something.

RRnold 07-26-2010 02:44 PM

All these trends seem to recycle so these so called new generation really isn't inventing anything new.

In the 80's, dropped Suzuki Samuri's, Mazda B2200, Toy's, Nissan Hardbody Mini trucks and even import and euro cars had the wide wheels w/ stretched tires. They called them "Frog style".

In the 90's, it was the "clean look" which evolved to the "JDM look".

The "hella flush" look will continue as long as wheel manufactures continue to offer their wheels in crazy offsets.

A little stretch is good but I think it's pointless for the FF cars to run hella flush wheels or when they over stretch the tire.

^ I agree

And I think most cars look good black on black or murdered out.

How could I have forgotten donks :slap:

Oh another one... Trailer queens. Drive the piece of shit you ***s.
Also, show cars. If you got more T.V's than horsepower, your doing something wrong.

S2KtoFT86 07-26-2010 08:23 PM

The lame ass balls hanging off the rear bumpers, and those stupid ass little family stickers that people put on the back windows of their vans and SUVs.

RWDJunkie 07-26-2010 09:34 PM

I don't mind Hellaflush as long as it's not on fwd cars.

My least favorite trends include:
Donks - American... and import (I've seen donked Altimas and VW Bugs).
Buick fender grills on everything but Buicks.
Fwd with their rear wheels wider/fatter than the front pair.
Vinyl or rust covered hoods or body panels in general.
Slammed daily drivers - I don't mind if it's your weekend cruiser but creating traffic because your daily is barely drivable or being afraid to switch lanes 'cause a reflector might crack your front lip or ding your oil pan is kinda dumb.

i hate those balls that hang off the tow bar and i HATE those family stickers as well... im SO happy that we dont have donks over here in OZ (i had to google the term just then and i threw up a little) hella flush is gay. that prelude is gay, but its SO over done that it works together nicely, its a shame its a honda.

end rant

Are donks serious? They're not like those card-board bodykit 'ricers' all full of irony? When I saw my first pic of one on the 'Net I thought it was Photoshopped.

They kind of remind me of when jacked-up 4x4's or wannabe monster trucks pull off the bodies and replace them with a Corvette's or something.

Never seen one in my part of Canada yet, thank god.

I'm with you on this one. I don't give a frak how many times you knocked up your wife and how many hell spawn you are forced to haul around in that POS. Although the ones with the two mommies stickers are fun sometimes ;)

Not to bag on the south but they've got some very dumb trends there, especially in Florida. Donks and the extended swing arms for motorcycles.

You want to know how to ruin a completely functional "sportbike"... extend the wheelbase so it'll handle like shit!:barf::bonk::suicide:

The long swingarm came from drag bikes, though right? Kind of how the hellaflush evolved from drifters stretching tires?

More of the LOOK, none of the FUNCTION! KEWL!

Yeah that's where they got it from but it's pointless to extend a swing arm especially on a 600cc... and to chrome the wheels and frame... and to have a ugly ass custom metalic flake paintjob!

Thats why the real drag bikes have wheelie bars.

I'm sure there is some functionality by mildly stretching the tire.

I understand. It's the same with comparing a functional mild stretch to the crazy low offset 'hellaflush' crap. It started off relevant to performance. But then retards decided they wanted the look and just took in staggeringly excessive directions.

Cars today are not stiffer than the 60's cars!!! Todays junk just doesn't have the torque old V8's had. Not even the new V8's. And I can prove today's frameless bodies are more likely to fold up over the 60's and 70's full frame cars! You fix those cars after a fender bender. Todays cars anything over 5 mph is more to fix it than it cost, if it's fixible! Vinyl Tops were a easy design/ don't have to fill the qtr. panel to roof seam as well factory deal. But many cars such as my 69 Grand Prix used the vinyl top as a a classy addition to the style of the car. I can not think of any of todays cars that the looks could be enhanced by a vinyl top, but then most of todays cars are so ugly, no fugly that vinyl couldn't hurt them either! chicago condos*

3 things
1 you are a dinasour, go back to your 5 tonne cars that leave the driver in pieces after a accident and demolish pedestrians (while at it u wanna go old school geta straight steering member not a colapsible one, then hit a wall and get your chest crushd... FUN)
2 vinyl tops were used because at first the fabrication methods were too poor to make proper metal roofs, then later when they could make proper roofs the poorer companies still couldnt afford the technology..
3 old V8s were overengineered hunks of iron that were not designed for the power they had, because that sort of maths is VERY hard (if not imposible) without solidworks, ansys, inventor, matlab and a good calculator. thats why they can be done up easily with TODAYS technology.. wile your at it go and put 4 drum brakes on your car with asbestos pads and then take a good whif when changing the shoes.
DINASOUR (i bet you think roots superchargers are the best ones 2 ey..)

Reading your comment reminds me of an 69 Camaro commerical I just saw recently on another forum.

You are true in regards to the old muscle cars being solid but look how much those things weigh and how un-efficient they were. Thanks the gas crisis of the early 70's to help conform consumers about gas guzzling V8's!

I also find it hilarious that you're talking so much shit yet you own a Honda Accord!

o yeah vinyl top looks good

and they last forever

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/d..._Vinyl_Top.jpg

Lets put the hypocrite a side lets do a simple math on torque

a 1969 Pontiac Grand Prix 7.0liter V8 has a 472 ft-lb torque, thats 67.2 lb-ft per liter

A 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG 6.2liter V8 has a 480ft-lb torque thats .8 less liter than the dinosaur grand prix and 77.2 lb-ft per liter if the SLS had a 7.0liter thats 540 lb-ft

another one Lexus ISF 5.0liter V8 has a 371 lb-ft thats 74.2 lb-ft per liter is the lexus ISF will have a 7.0liter thats 519 lb-ft

one more time a lexus LS600 has a 5.0liter V8 has a 385ft-lb torque, thats 77 lb-ft per liter wow thats almost as the $138,000 SLS, If the LS600 will have a 7.0liter engine thats 539 lb-ft

thats sad isn't it that the mighty american muscle car on paper is just pathetic o well pontiac is just another memory, people will buy cuz it looks cool on the garage.

4agze 08-12-2010 10:32 PM

o yeah lets not do a weight to torque ratio on muscle car vs new cars cuz, thats going to be another sad math
