most comfortable shock with Eibach Pro Kit
I was wondering about feedback on shocks. After installing the Eibach Pro Kit, the only noticeable ride quality difference came from the switch I made from stock 17 inch wheels to 18s with 225/40s. I have been very happy with the ride. I need shocks now, but I don't want to lose ride quality. What is the best shock in this respect?

OP wanted "best" and made no mention of budget so sure, why not? Lol.
|
I mean at that level sure you could also lump in some eibach springs matched to the Penskes and call it a day :D oh wait, thats $10,000. I dont think OP is willing to pay THAT much. If you are, by all means lets get a review on this forum for some Penskes...

Yes he doesn't explicitly state his domain of money's, but it's safe to say most peoples budget doesn't include $10,000 shocks. I wish mine did lol |
Any reason why you want to replace stock struts?

There's no "other" brand OEM replacement struts out yet? I mean like normal quality, not trackday bro spec.

Gonna bump this. I've been on a Pro-Kit for about a year and the ride quality just isn't cutting it anymore with the girlfriend. I can admit that it is pretty bumpy, but I don't mind nearly as much as her.
Are there any shocks out there that will give me factory ride quality or better when paired with a Pro-Kit? I'd like to stick around $600, but I can go more if I need to. FYI, this car is just a daily driver. I don't even speed in it...just cruise from point A to point B. I don't need anything too fancy or anything for tracking. Just something that would give me a lot of comfort while driving on the crappy roads of Austin. |

If youre looking to replace the shocks with a $600+ a little bit of head room for budget, Id wait to buy a system that has already matched springs to the damper curves.

From what i read, RCE yellow and bilstein B8 are a very comfortable ride. Below are my experiences with my various suspension setups.
First i had sportline springs with oem shocks, great looking drop but a somewhat harsh ride. good on low speed bumps, but very unstable on high speed bumps, the rear would wobble alot. Then i decided to try some truhart shocks with the sportline springs, ride quality improved a bit and the car was much stiffer, more responsive, and handled high speed bumps very well. Low speed bumps however still were a bit harsh. Currently I am on tein flex z dropped the lowest they can go, (about a finger between rim and fender). I have the dampener set at 7 front and 7 rear, and it is very comfortable on low speed and high speed bumps. This setup gets me the drop I wanted, the car is very planted and performs much better. I should have just gone this route from the beginning. just some feedback. |
The stock shocks are comfortable with my TRD springs which is the Eibach Pro's if i recall correctly. What wheel/tires you have? tire pressures set to 35psi when cold?
|
I have the pro kits, for about 15,000mi now, and its definitely more bumpy. One of my coworkers drives a stock BRZ so I was able to compare the side by side one after the other. While the ride is not bad, its certainly stiffer than stock. Once the stock dampers wear out ill probably replace them with coils. If I had it to do again i'd go with coils straight away rather than springs, the ride would probably be better and it would be cheaper in the long run.

Shock dampening should match spring rates used, and they both should match driving style/specifics. Good shocks + springs is at very least as good option if not better then of same price range cheap coilovers. Imho it's a bit wrong to generalize and shun springs+shocks in general. Simply there also are being made & sold coilovers of much higher price range/quality. But then it's not exactly apples to apples comparison anymore.

Koni Yellow set to full soft. It won't be a HUGE improvement, but it's noticeably better.
Bilstein B6 is close, and may do slightly better over really big bumps. But the Koni Yellow will do better most of the time. Custom valve the B6 and you can make something awesome (for a bunch more money). - Andrew |

The Cusco adjustable shocks could work for you as well. They're just firmer than stock at full stiffness, and can be adjusted to be much softer than stock as well. I posted a responce from them when I inquired, but I have no idea what thread the post is in. I run Bilsteins now. The Bilsteins are less bouncy than stock, but they ride much firmer. Mind you, I'm on Swift Spec R's. If you want comfy, you may have bought the wrong car.

Progressive springs in my opinion are bumpier. I had the prokit and switched to RCE Yellows (non-progressive springs). I'm very happy with the choice. I've also been in a couple other cars with Eibach sportline and also H&R and both were even bumpier (progressive springs as well).
I'd say stock shocks are the most comfortable with any spring. You're welcome to buy mine from me from cheap since I'm on Koni Yellows since I occasionally race. |

I gotta just tell her, "If the bumps bother you that much then YOU pay for my new suspension!" |
