This Video Review Completely Misses the Mark!

This is the first video I have come across that does not give praise to our amazing little cars.

The GT86 is what the market has needed for a long time.

Check out the review...And to the point on the engine being noisy and not pleasant sounding to the ears, I totally disagree. Although, I will be adding a custom exhaust soon to accentuate the growl of that boxer engine.

Thank god I bought a BRZ instead of an FR-S.

AVodka14 06-07-2014 03:20 PM

Man, I knew I should have bought the BRZ...

FR-S Matt 06-07-2014 03:34 PM

I'm glad I still didn't get a BRZ because heated seats are dumb, and the front end isn't as aggressive looking as the FR-S IMO.

longhornjoe 06-07-2014 04:00 PM

Seems to be contradiction across that review. The first 3/4 of the review he's reciting the same things that we discussed everywhere across this site. No armrest, tiny back seat, little/no factory leather (upgrade) options, terrible stereo. But at the same time he's complimenting the balance and handling.

His comment about noise vs. sound is a bit puzzling. I've never been driving and had any problem with the sound of my (stock) FR-S. It's quiet when I'm just cruising along, and I enjoy the sound when I decide to jump on it.

In the final 1/4, the review goes schizo. In one breath he compliments the car saying that it "almost meets everything on (the) list to be a 'perfect' sports car" and then in the next breath goes on to say that "it's noisy, it lacks torque and drivability" and "lacks a fun-to-drive character."

I think it's funny and quite a bit revealing that he claims to have got 31 MPG in his week-long test of the car. The only way that I, personally, have been able to hit 30+ MPG driving this car has to drive it like a grandmother slowly accelerating and decelerating--not exceeding 3,000 RPM. This is something that you can do in this car without much trouble--if you want to. To have fun with this car, 5500+ RPMs is where it's at. This is just something most average drivers cannot do if you're getting 31 MPG over a week's time. This makes me wonder how he really considers 'driving' this car.

IMO, one of the best things about this car is that it can be driven economically and comfortably one moment or like a track-ready, momentum car the next. This versatility is one of the biggest draws to these cars.

Sounds pretty accurate to me. Love how he give it 2 1/2 stars after calling it an "almost perfect sports car" Guys is a joke, and that's not just because I own an FRS ;)

xrahxeastside 06-07-2014 04:56 PM

Right but his review of the R Line VW Beetle (that you can't turn the traction control off on) got a 4.5/5....

you haven't live in Alaska where there is 9 months of winter and the average temperature is -20F. heated seats is a luxury item up here.

Still amazing how he got 31 mpg, guessing he drove the car like a grandma following the up shift arrow on the dash board LOL.

The whole point of this car is that you can drive it in the low rev range comfortably and civilized in town and behaves completely different on the track or autocross. That whole segment with him saying its not fun around town, hes basically telling people that we are SUPPOSE drive fast around town so they can run over dogs, children, cats, squirrels, unicorns. Bad.

Don't think he understands the point of the linear power band high revving engine versus the usual 'Murican muscle cars with low-end-smack-you-in-the-face-and-youre-done-torque. (But honestly, I love and appreciate muscle cars)

I want to see him review a miata or a s2k and hear what MPG he got on those.

But to end my trolling.

He ain't about that life tho.

When it was -35* F this past winter the heated seats weren't dumb. ;)

I do agree that our engine doesn't sound as smooth as some of the more refined I4s out there. Overall I think his review was pretty good...he just didn't really like the motor.

dobbrz 06-07-2014 10:19 PM

hes wearing a cowboy hat...that says it all

Dumb for you. Not dumb for everyone.

Pistol 06-08-2014 12:07 AM

noisy are you kidding me, its too quiet !
this guy should hear it with an exhaust on

what a pansy!

ET86 06-08-2014 04:51 AM

He's a mustang kind of guy. Also, headed seats make me feel like I pissed my pants.

geez! Speak for yourself :bonk:

Pseud0logik 06-08-2014 08:32 AM

I just skimmed the rest of his reviews and didn't see a single sports car other than the FR-S. Mostly trucks, SUVs, and family cars. I'm thinking the twins might not be his kind of car to begin with.

Vracer111 06-11-2014 03:56 AM

Actually was a good and well done review, but disagree with some of his points.

strat61caster 06-11-2014 05:41 PM

Strip out his final rating and I really can't contradict many of his comments, pretty objective review.

It goes to shit when he counts high revving as a disadvantage and gives it a below average review while calling it "the almost perfect sports car".

A guy from Texas thinks heated seats are dumb? Well that's surprising. I'm guessing you wouldn't have such a strong opinion if you lived somewhere with a winter.

Even in extremely cold weather, my ass is generally not the first thing I try to warm up. If you prefer that then more power to you.

My fiance is from Alaska and she even mentioned that heated seats are dumb and not needed. Just another thing to potentially go wrong. This is why we have heaters and A/C... Take it for what its worth.

If I had a choice of getting air conditioned seats, would I do it? No, because in a minute or two, I'll have cold air blowing. I'd rather spend money on wheels/tires/suspension instead of making sure my ass is warm or cold.

Well you're certainly entitled to your opinion on the subject.

Wasn't intended to flame the BRZ owners who have the heated seats already. Just stating my reasoning why I purchased an FR-S vs the BRZ and that's one of the swaying decisions besides the front end. I figured I can add the navigation aftermarket, wasn't too keen on having the side door lighting, or the climate control in a tiny car.

This is why we have options for this reason. I may find it doesn't suit me, but someone else may really really like it. Same goes with modding cars. Some people slam it, some people go for performance. We should be lucky and thankful to have so many options. My fiance's Dart has a really crappy aftermarket and its turbocharged.
