Gamer questions:

Need some opinions on this one so please feel free to reply. Here goes, what should I buy: PS4, Xbox One, or a Zelda edition 3DS XL. Thanks in advance!

gramicci101 06-04-2014 01:15 PM

PS4 or XBone. Just for availability of games.

f0rge 06-04-2014 01:30 PM

Where do you game? At home? Then get a PS4 or XB1. Whichever you prefer you cant really lose, just see which exclusives you like better.

If you want something to do on your long ass commute, then for sure the 3DS

hobojoker 06-04-2014 01:33 PM

If you care about cable or sports, I'd say XB1, if you care more about games/performance, PS4. XB1 was designed more to be a media center, PS4 is more focused on video games/more -- better resolution and performance in video games.

Eurasianman 06-04-2014 01:34 PM

As of June 9, of this year, the Xbox One will be $400 and the requirement for Xbox Live Gold to use Netflix/Hulu/Amazon/etc. have been removed. Therefore, between Xbox One and PlayStation 4, exclusives aside, I do not think you can go wrong with either.

As someone who owns an Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and a 3DS, I am enjoying my PlayStation 4 more and more (Originally picked up an Xbox One Day One edition on launch day. Got the PlayStation 4 1-2 months ago).

You do realize that xb1 is playing catch up with the entire "media center" thing right?

psn is supposed to have Pay Per View service. Once this goes live, I will be canceling cable and just pay for high speed.

Model Citizen 06-04-2014 01:55 PM

Lol ala carte+ high speed internet vs the promotional cable/fios bundles.

They wont let ala carte become a better value ever.

tahdizzle 06-04-2014 02:01 PM

The only reason why I even have cable is for pay per view. To order fights etc. Not for shows or movies.

n2oinferno 06-04-2014 02:03 PM

Buy the one that you want the games for. If you like all of them, just pick them all up eventually. :)

edit: Oh wait I forgot!

First of all i'd like to thank all of you for your comments, and well heres the thing, here in the Philippines we dont have Netflix, Hulu or whatever so im mainly deciding on the games available, secondly im 12, and i cant save up enough for a decent PC. And I mostly game at home but I took the 3DS in consideration of portability and being able to take it places like school or something. Well, do you guys also think that I should consider the PSVITA Slim
???

Well, if the "Yoshi" in your name is relating to Mario, then go with the 3DS.

I personally bought a 2DS (its the 3DS without the 3D function) just because 3D gives me a headache and I still wanted to play the games. Plus its cheaper. Have not been disappointed :)
Also own a Xbox1, but use it mostly as a media center.
My PC gets the vast majority of my gaming time.

n2oinferno 06-04-2014 03:44 PM

I have a gaming PC, a PS4, Xbox 360, Vita, and I STILL want a 2DS/3DS.... just so I can get my Pokemon fix.

PlayStation, XBOX, PlayStation 2, GameCube, XBOX 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, GameBoy, Advance SP, 3DS, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation Vita, XBOX One, PlayStation 4, and a gaming PC :iono:

All of them are hooked up and all still work...

Main problem, too many games, too little time #FirstWorldProblems

Back on topic, between the Vita and the 3DS, I would probably recommend the 3DS.

Haha, I was just listing the most recent version of consoles I have. Forgot Wii U, which is weird because all I've been playing lately is Mario Kart 8.

that looks pretty awesome. I still want to try out X or Y though and there aren't any 3DS emulators yet.

YoshiDrei 06-04-2014 10:55 PM

Thanks for all the replies guys! Heres another question: what should I do with my PS3 when I get a next-gen console? Should I hold on to it? And if I do hold on to it, what games do you guys recommend?

Depends on what kind of gamer you are. I, for example, hold on to all my consoles. At your age, I did not care about keeping last gen consoles. Now, I regret it. I use to have an NES, SNES, Genesis, and N64. I would have loved to have all of them today. Yes, you can get emulators (up to N64 games. PS1 is iffy), but to me, it is not the same.

I would honestly hold onto the PS3 and get PlayStation Plus membership. Also, PS3, IMHO, makes a fantastic media center system if you know what you are doing.

YoshiDrei 06-05-2014 08:50 AM

Thanks again for all the replies you guys gave, BTW I already made a decision, im gonna save up for a mid range PC. Oh and BTW if you guys also have questions feel free to threadjack me!

You can get a great deal on a used gaming PC if you watch Craigslist, and you can always build your own! The great thing about building your own is you are then familiar with the hardware and when you want to improve performance, just replace the parts that need replacing. I built my desktop six years ago and I've put maybe $600 into it since then and it still runs current gen games on max settings (although to be fair I put substantially more than $600 into it initially :)).

YoshiDrei 06-05-2014 08:59 AM

Well, theres no craigslist here but there are places here where they specialize in PC setups so i may do that

I'm happy with the emulator for mobile gaming. Even if the newest games aren't there they will be. Now when it comes to the Ps4xX1 debate.. I'm more for playstation the exclusives are fantastic. Even when I get a ps4 I'll be keeping the ps3, game production won't be ceased for sometime to come. And if you haven't played the last of us then you should. Probably the best game I've played so far.

This statement is about as true as needing a Mac in order to do graphic design or video. As in not very true and mostly perpetuated by exaggerations and people holding on to old ideas of marketing genius.

Hold onto it if you warrant any games worth keeping that you will actually want to replay in the future. It seems as if backwards compatibility is no longer a feature consoles want to offer anymore. Another route you could go is trade it in or sell it privately now to get as much back as you can. PS3s aren't like Dreamcasts and if you ever decide to want one again there are plenty out there on eBay and stuff.

That' the route I would go, but then I'm an old school guy who grew up playing PC games because they were so much better than consoles in the day. Now, I've played so much keyboard/mouse that I can't make the jump to a controller.

One piece of advice with this, if you are going to spend extra money, spend it on the graphics card. Just about any relatively recent processor will play games fine as long as the graphics card is up to snuff. I usually hold on to my primary gaming PC 5 years, but do at least one video upgrade. Don't spend stupid money on the card though, the top of the line one gen back is always a great bang for the buck.

YoshiDrei 06-05-2014 10:59 AM

Thanks for the advice guys, will remember these tips when I finally be able to buy the parts for the PC. Thanks again!

I'd also recommend holding on to the PS3. Being able to go back years later and play retro games is a lot of fun. Building PCs can be a lot of fun, I've been building since I was your age and have been building PCs for myself and friends for over 20 years now; it gets addicting.

n2oinferno 06-05-2014 12:32 PM

The best advantage that the PC has really is price. You can spend one or two hundred dollars more on the computer, sure. But what you'll make up for in savings if you wait for game sales will easily eclipse the initial cost over the period of ownership.

And yes hang onto your PS3. If you don't, there will come a time you want it and you'll kick yourself for not having it.

Not everyday you see a 12 year old on a car forum lol. That's cool though!

YoshiDrei 06-05-2014 12:45 PM

Ive been a petrolhead since my family bought our first car, after that I got interested in cars so much that I could recognize cars around me just by their headlamps/taillamps.

Ha sounds just like me when I was 12. But when I was 12 the internet was a pretty new thing and we all had incredibly slow dial up modems and AOL lol.

YoshiDrei 06-05-2014 12:50 PM

Well over here I was still born early enough to still use those dial-up connections ( wi-fi just came to the Philippines that year )

This is true PC or console. I never buy a game when its new. I've got enough of a Steam backlog I stay content and I have something to look forward to next!
