Is/Do you think, Top Gear US will feature the Twin?

I see that a new season of TopGear US will start soon.

We all already know the original(and better) TopGear EU already featured the Twin a bit ago..but, will TopGear US have a go at it too?

Who gives a flying fuck, it's TGUS.

NWFRS 06-03-2014 05:50 PM

I tried SO HARD to watch TopGearUSA.

Once.

For about fifteen minutes.

It was like listening to a country and western song on repeat.

Now every time I see a TopGearUSA commercial I throw up in my mouth a little bit.

tahdizzle 06-03-2014 05:56 PM

The thing about topgear US is....

The hosts have no personality! And they try to mimic the dynamics of Top Gear.

SirBrass 06-03-2014 06:08 PM

Only Jeremy Clarkson can be Jeremy Clarkson. UK Top Gear is much better.

Ocean-Grown 86 06-03-2014 06:11 PM

I don't care. TGUS is just a way for the history channel to exploit the top gear brand. Mediocre commercial-like presenters, predictable and sometimes downright stupid challenges, a lack of adventure, and little creativity. And it's annoying. /endrant

Well..this thread didn't go too well haha.

It's obvious that TGUS blows. Tell us something we all don't already know, lol. But, I am sure everyone is still curious (some secretly, for the TGUS basher bandwagon) if they'll show a twin; and if they do, I am sure everyone will want to watch it still ;)

Well I like TGUS, except for Adam Ferrara, so FUCK ALL OF YOU.

Also, the episode tonight is from Gainesville. I know some guys from our Gainesville 86 page got to see them, so maybe you'll see an 86 in one of the shots. I tried very hard to find Tanner and get him to drive my car so I could cream myself, but I was too late and they had already left town.

Who gives a flying fuck, it's a 200hp econobox with a lawnmower engine.

Huh, I like Adam and Rutledge, very similar to Hammond and May in my mind. They get excited about the things that they like and have fun as much as possible and give each other a reasonably hard time.

I think they went wrong with Foust. I agree with Clarkson:

People who drive fast are rarely entertaining (the only exception I have off the top of my head is James Hunt), there's only so many things a person can be good at. The first couple of episodes were painful but they started to pull it together when I was watching (the moonshine challenge and used car salesman were as good as most TGUK budget challenges), I didn't finish season 1 however, things could have gone either way since then. I don't keep up with TGUK either, all I know from 18 on is the Toyobaru review.

The thing that gets most people is that it's more obvious that the gags are staged rather than natural in the US version. They are just as staged in TGUK, but the Britishness and subtlety of their nature obscures the setup for us Yanks.

Do you really think they set up ALL the cameras, microphones, and locations when starting a challenge and just let the presenters roll up as they feel like it? Oh and they already have microphones on them ready for recording when they hop out of their car/tow truck?

That's exactly it. They are trying to be tguk. Copying success is not the way to develop a successful fan base.

dbrandt01 06-03-2014 10:19 PM

I'd attempt to watch it if they do. In all honesty it seems they copy the UK version too much. Like the making a car into a boat. It was so similar to the UK version. Just I don't know, it seems if the US version got people that got along together a lot better and had fun it would be better. They just don't look like they're enjoying themselves half the time.

Dave-ROR 06-04-2014 02:33 AM

TGUS has gotten a lot better. It's just mindless entertainment like TGUk. Neither are valid car review shows.

Dadhawk 06-04-2014 10:50 AM

To answer @fooddude and his original question, who knows? TGUS doesn't do very many faux-car reviews, at least not last season, they seem to be sticking to the challenges and at this point the car is not new news (it is going on 3 years old now).

I agree. TGUS has gotten much better, and I think given time it will find its own style. Having watched all the previous seasons now, TGUK sucked at first too, and got better as it aged, in my opinion.

I do think TGUS focuses a little too much and Tanner and him being a professional driver.

Troof. I watched the new episode last night, and I enjoyed it. I like the new format of them each picking a car for each episode and doing challenges in them. No more boring C list awkward interviews, no more boring crappy knock off star in a reasonably priced car, and no more news segments. Just entertaining car shenanigans. The Rutledge wheel stand last night was epic.

Of course they're copying the formula, they'd be stupid not to and if they weren't going to why bother calling it Top Gear?

Have you watched the first 2-3 seasons of new TGUK? They're particularly miserable, it takes time to find that on camera chemistry and 2/3 of them aren't actors. UK had the benefit of ~5 years of being a 'pokey little motoring show on BBC2' while TGUS had high expectations going in, especially after seasons 10-15 of TGUK.

Glad to hear it's picked up since I stopped watching.

you don't have to have a James May, Richard Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson, and a Stig to be called "Top Gear". You need those to be called "Top Gear UK".

I am fully aware of the first seasons of Top Gear UK. Any enthusiast with netflix should be ashamed of themselves if they are ignorant to them.

Top Gear US, needs those type of seasons to get comfortable with eachother and develop their OWN kind of relationships and personality. Not mimic.

fooddude 06-04-2014 04:48 PM

I just don't like the challenges honestly...they are so non-driving/race related and is too similar to 80s/90s game shows on nickelodeon lol. At least TGUK actually drive and race in their challenges(from point a to b) ..TGUS does too, but they add too much really dumb/unrelated physical things to their challenges, making it like nickelodeon and very hard/annoying to watch.

sshole 06-04-2014 04:58 PM

Everyone here complaining about TGUS, try watching an episode of TGSK (South Korea; with or without subtitles). It's terrible. I think I got cancer from it.
