oem mudflaps or rally armor?

They have OEM mudflaps? Are you referring to the mud guards?

Ah, I see. The Mudguards are less effective than the mudflaps because they don't hang as low. With both, you'll see less of the huge spray of mud that's common with the car. I have the mudguards now but I'll be replacing them with the flaps soon, just because I prefer the way the flaps look.

Love my rally armor. there is a thread of someone who pulled their oem guards off and the paint was all scratched up under them.

I had slight scratching in the shape of the OEM mud guards when I pulled them off at 1k miles. I would think any car with mud guards or an aero kit that had pieces sitting flush against a painted body panel would have that though.

To the OP. I believe they are equally effective. And by that I mean you'll still end up getting mud and dirt all over your car if you drive through rain puddles and muddy roads with either one. You may protect the 6-12'' behind the flap on the underside from rock chips, maybe. But after that, they are just an aesthetic.

Well this makes me reconsider my purchase cause it's the little water puddles bother me.

Not the best pic, but you can see the not so effectiveness of my RA flaps. Most of the road dirt and mud collected before the rear tire, but there is still quite a bit directly behind the front flap.

But there's no roostertail/spray. Just dirt stuck to the water that was on your car. The point of flaps is to prevent tire from throwing dirt/rocks/mud/debris against your car.

I have the flaps on top of the STI lip kit. Works well up here in the oilsands (lots of dirt and rocks), keeps most of the debris off the paint. Plus I love how it makes the car much more wider from the back.

There is spray. Just not DIRECTLY behind the flap. May not seem like it because its a horrid pic and you see water lines going downward, but that's from rain early the next morning. I know the point of it. Unless there are flaps that extend 12 inches past the fender and wrap all the way around the wheel well, dirt and mud will still hit your car from your tires kicking it up. As far as rocks, I don't typically drive in gravel, so I wouldn't know. I only have rock problems from cars in front of me kicking them up at my front bumper.

Which...if they had rear Rally Armor flaps, maybe that wouldn't happen.

Did you have to modify the mud flaps to have them fit with your lip kit? Everyone I asked told me I would have to take of my flaps to install a full lip kit (skirts, side skirts, and rear slats).

I took my oem flaps off and put on rally armor. The rigid hard flaps are no good in the snow belt, especially if you back out of driveways.

I thoroughly enjoy my RA mudflaps. Super easy to install as well.

I have heard of paint being damaged by the OEM mudflaps. The RA's don't even touch your paint

I know I was glad to have the RA mudflaps last winter on one of my ski trips!

Didn't have to modify, just had to use one of the screws from the kit and used that instead of the silver screws from the mudflaps. Over all it doesn't look too bad. So far everyone up here says it looks great and made the car complete with the flaps and lip kit. I'll take a pic once the weather gets better up here...just remind me cuz i'm forgetful..
